    Zhenlong Xingnao Capsule (ZXC) is a Tibetan medicine used to treat ischemic stroke. In this study, we determined the in vitro and in vivo effects of ZXC on reactive oxygen species (ROS) in a mouse BV-2 microglial cell hypoxia-reoxygenation and rat middle cerebral artery occlusion infarction models. We aimed to clarify the role of ZXC in cerebral ischemia protection; reveal amino acid neurotransmitter changes in the frontal cortex after drug intervention; determine mRNA and protein expression changes in Bcl-2, Bax, caspase-3, P38, and nuclear factor (NF)-кB in the frontal cortex and changes in antioxidant indices in the brain; and elucidate the mechanisms underlying ZXC action. After hypoxia-reoxygenation, ROS levels were significantly increased in BV-2 cells, and their levels decreased after treatment with ZXC. ZXC had protective effects on ischemic/anoxic injury in vitro and in vivo by downregulating the expressions of caspase-3 and NF-кB mRNA during ischemia and reperfusion and that of p38 and caspase-3 during acute ischemia and reperfusion as well as the steady-state levels of excitatory amino acids/inhibitory amino acids and by improving the total antioxidant capacity and total superoxide dismutase activities during ischemia. These findings provide new molecular evidence for the mechanisms underlying ZXC action.</p

    PINCH expression and its significance in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

    Particularly interesting new cysteine-histidine rich protein (PINCH), as a newly discovered protein of LIM family members, may play a role in signal transduction of integrin and growth factor, and involved in the incidence and development of tumors. PINCH protein is overexpressed in tumor-associated stroma of several types of tumors. However, there is no study of the PINCH in esophageal cancer, therefore we investigated PINCH expression in esophageal squamous cell carcinomas and its clinicopathogical significance in the patients. PINCH expression was immunohistochemically examined in 20 normal esophageal samples and 64 esophageal squamous cell carcinomas. The results showed that PINCH expression in the stroma of cancers was heterogeneous, and its positive rate (56%) was higher than that of normal esophageal mucosa (5%, p&lt;0.0001). The stronger staining was observed at the invasive edge of tumor when compared to the inner area of tumor. The rate of positive PINCH (90%) in the cases with lymph node metastasis was higher than that (41%) in the cases without metastasis (p&lt;0.0001). PINCH expression was not correlated with patients’ gender, age, tumor location, size and differentiation (p&gt;0.05).     Numerical investigation of the flow field and mass transfer characteristics in a jet slurry pump

    A jet pump is used to transport a variety of working media and is especially suitable for dredged soil transporting. In this study, a three-dimensional numerical study of a jet pump that is used for slurry delivery was carried out. The characteristics of the internal flow field of the mixing chamber with different working parameters were comprehensively analyzed. The results indicate that the pressure of the axial line decreases with increasing flow ratio (ratio of suction flux and inlet flux) while the pressure of the injected slurry shows a downward trend. With the increase in the flow ratio, the pressure ratio (difference between inlet pressure and suction pressure divided by the difference between exit pressure and suction pressure) falls off while the efficiency presents a parabolic distribution. The pressure ratio can be promoted by properly increasing the length of the mixing chamber so that the available efficiency is broadened. When the mixing chamber length is L = 2.5Dn~4.0Dn (Dn is nozzle outlet diameter), the highly efficient area is wide; in particular, when L = 3.5Dn, the jet slurry pump with the highest efficiency of 27.6% has the best performance.Offshore and Dredging Engineerin

    A New Method of D-TDOA Time Measurement Based on RTT

    In this paper, a novel difference-time difference of arrival (D-TDOA) time measurement method based on round-trip transmission (RTT) is proposed. The accuracy of time measurement is critical for high accuracy positioning, yet the traditional time difference of arrival (TDOA) time measurement method cannot deal well with the problem of time synchronization error, such as the initial time offset and transmission cumulate time error caused by clock frequency offset and drift. We formulate a D-TDOA time measurement mechanism to overcome the shortcoming of the traditional TDOA method in eliminating the influence of clock error. It is proved that the D-TDOA method can effectively eliminate the influence of initial time offset by analyzing the simulation data, which can also reduce the cumulate time error remarkably. The simulation results demonstrate that the D-TDOA method can significantly enhance the accuracy of time measurement in the circumstance that the AP clock synchronization is not required seriously

    An Efficient Framework for Remote Sensing Parallel Processing: Integrating Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm and Multi-agent Technology

    Remote sensing (RS) image processing can be converted to an optimization problem, which can then be solved by swarm intelligence algorithms, such as the artificial bee colony (ABC) algorithm, to improve the accuracy of the results. However, such optimization algorithms often result in a heavy computational burden. To realize the intrinsic parallel computing ability of ABC to address the computational challenges of RS optimization, an improved multiagent (MA)-based ABC framework with a reduced communication cost among agents is proposed by utilizing MA technology. Two types of agents, massive bee agents and one administration agent, located in multiple computing nodes are designed. Based on the communication and cooperation among agents, RS optimization computing is realized in a distributed and concurrent manner. Using hyperspectral RS clustering and endmember extraction as case studies, experimental results indicate that the proposed MA-based ABC approach can effectively improve the computing efficiency while maintaining optimization accuracy
