    Grammatical Error Analysis of Recount Text Writing Made by the Eighth Year Students of SMP Negeri 1 Jember in the 2014/2015 Academic Year

    This research was intended to know the percentage of each type of grammatical error of the eighth grade students in writing recount texts at SMP Negeri 1 Jember in the 2014/2015 academic year. The research respondents were chosen by using proportional random sampling. The research design used was a descriptive research. The main data of this research were taken from writing tes while interview, and documentation were used to take the secondary data. From the result, it was found that there were four types of grammatical error covering omission, addition, misformation and misordering. The percentage of each grammatical error was omission (49% or 135 items), addition (16% or 44 items), misformation (23% or 65 items) and misordering (13% or 33 items). This result showed that the highest percentage of grammatical error was omission and the lowest percentage was misordering. The students made a lot of grammatical errors in omission because their mother tongue (Indonesia) is different from the target language (English). For example, the use of article in English does not exist in Indonesian. Based on the results above, the suggestions is given to the following people that the findings can be useful for the future researchers as input or information about the students’ grammatical errors especially in recount text writing to conduct a further research with a similar problem and with a different research design such as a classroom action research to develop their grammar mastery at different schools and different level of students

    This research was intended to know the significance effect of using controlled writing technique on the seventh grade students' paragraph wrriting achievement at SMP Negeri 1 Tempurejo. . The area and subjects of this research were chosen purposively by using purposive method. The research design was experimental research. The data of this research were obtained by doing writing test, interview, and documentation. Based on the research finding dealing with the result of the seventh grade students’ descriptive paragraph writing achievement at SMP Negeri 1 Tempurejo, the analysis of mean deviation using independent t test formula, it was found that the t value was 2.470. Then, the result of data anaysis was consulted to the value of t-table of 5% significance level (confidence interval 95% and Df 69). the value of t-table for Df 69 was 1.9944. So, the result of t test was higher than the value of t-table. It could be concluded that there is a significant effect of using the controlled writing technique on the seventh grade students' descriptive paragraph writing achievement at SMP Negeri 1 Tempurejo

    Improving the VIII-C Grade Students’ Vocabulary Achievement by Using Pop-up Pictures at SMPN 1 Beji – Pasuruan

    This Classroom Action Research was intended to improve the VIII-C students’ participation and vocabulary achievement by using Pop-up Pictures at SMPN 1 Beji – Pasuruan. The research area was chosen by using purposive method. The data collection methods of this research were interview, observation, documentation, and vocabulary achievement test. The research participants were VIII-C students. This research was held collaboratively between the researcher and the English teacher. The research was done in two cycles while each cycle consisted of three meetings. The observation result in Cycle 1 showed that the average of the students’ participation was only 65%. It increased to 77.5% the observation result in Cycle 2. Additionally, there were only 65% students who got score 70 in Cycle 1 and it was 77.5% students got score 70 or higher in the vocabulary achievement test in Cycle 2. It means that the objectives of the research were successful

    The goal of this research is to describe about pronunciation errors made by the seventh grade students in pronouncing the English words. This research used a descriptive quantitative as the research design and the research respondents were the seventh grade students at MTsN 3 Tanggul. The data of the research were from the observation, interview, documentation, and pronunciation test. The result of the pronunciation test showed they were making pronunciation errors in vowel, consonants, and diphthong. The highest errors made by the students were vowel errors that the percentage was 68.51%. The second was consonant errors that the percentage was 19.04%, and the last was diphthong errors that the percentage was 12.43%

    A Descriptive Study of the Eighth Grade Students' Ability in Using Connectors in Recount Text at SMP Negeri 9 Jember

    This descriptive research was intended to describe the eighth grade students' ability in using connectors in a recount text at SMPN 9 Jember. The number of population was around 240 students from class VIII A up to VIII F which were chosen purposively by proportional random sampling. This research used 20% of students from each class. So, the respondents were 40 students. The data were obtained through a guided reading test, documentation, and interview. The collected data were analyzed by using a descriptive statistics. The result of the data analysis showed that the students' ability in using connectors in a recount text were categorized into fair for about 40% as many as 14 students, poor and failed that each took 30% as many as 14 and 12 students. Unfortunately, there were no students who got score between 70-79 and 80-100 under the category good and excellent. It means that the students' ability in using connectors in a recount text was not really

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
