Literary Diary as an Attempt at Autotherapy of War Trauma (on the Example of Valeria Burlakova’s Novel 'Zhyttia' P.S.)
The article is a scientific attempt to understand and present to the contemporary recipient the artistic dimension of war and its reflection in the cultural consciousness of the society of the twenty-first century. The author appeals to the literary diary titled Zhyttia P.S. (The Life P.S.), written by a soldier participating in the Russian-Ukrainian war in Donbas. Certain features of the work provide evidence that it is a hybrid war. For Ukrainians, it is a war for real memory. Most attention in the researching of the literary reception of this traumatic event is paid to three fundamental signs. The first one is the gender peculiarity – the story is told by a woman who fought at the front and lost there her beloved person, who was killed by the enemy. The second peculiarity is the feature of writing therapy, when writing the diary opened the possibility of release from the experienced trauma. And the third one is the genre of diary, which is a memoir and at the same time an artistic reflection of the image of war
Generalized Signal Models and Direct FID-Based Dielectric Parameter Retrieval in MRI
In this article, we present full-wave signal models for magnetic and electric field measurements in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Our analysis is based on a scattering formalism in which the presence of an object or body is taken into account via an electric scattering source. We show that these signal models can be evaluated, provided that Green's tensors of the background field are known along with the dielectric parameters of the object and the magnetization within the excited part of the object. Furthermore, explicit signal expressions are derived in the case of a small homogeneous ball that is embedded in free space and for which the quasi-static Born approximation can be applied. The conductivity and permittivity of the ball appear as explicit parameters in the resulting signal models and allow us to study the sensitivity of the measured signals with respect to these dielectric parameters. Moreover, for free induction decay signals, we show through simulations that, under certain conditions, it is possible to retrieve the dielectric parameters of the ball from noise-contaminated induction decay signals that are based on electric or magnetic field measurements. Adaptive Automation Based on Air Traffic Controller Decision-Making
Through smart scheduling and triggering of automation support, adaptive automation has the potential to balance air traffic controller workload. The challenge in the design of adaptive automation systems is to decide how and when the automation should provide support. This paper describes the design of a novel mechanism for adaptively invoking automation support. Whereas most adaptive automation support systems are reactive in that they invoke automation support after controller workload has increased, the aim of the designed mechanism is to proactively trigger automation support prior to workload increases. To do this, the mechanism assesses the quality of air traffic controller's decisions. The designed adaptive automation system has been tested in a human-in-the-loop experiment. Results indicate that the adaptive support helps to increase efficiency and safety as compared to manual control. However, lower triggering thresholds (resulting in more frequent automation intervention) increased the frustration level of participants (as measured with NASA TLX) and decreased acceptance of the support.Control & SimulationControl & Operation
Taking a Closer Look at Flight Crew Handling of Complex Failures: Ten Case Studies
Non-normal events, in particular system failures with serious operational impact are rare in flight operations. These events are not always easy to handle by flight crews. The aim of the performed study is to determine where in this process potential issues may lie. Ten incident reports are studied using a newly developed operational issue analysis framework. The framework is used to determine whether and how the current interfaces communicate the initial functional impact and functional impact delayed in time. Additionally, results from pilot interviews are presented which identified three phases of non-normal event handling: fault detection, fault management and strategic planning. Analysis of the ten cases shows that current alert systems are mainly supporting the first two phases while the strategic planning phase, requiring higher level functional information integrated into the operational context as well as failure impact later in time, is relying almost entirely on pilot knowledge and reasoning.Control & Simulatio
