Building An Earnest and Amicable Argument Culture in the Secondary Classroom
How do we build collaborative, positive argument cultures in secondary classrooms? In this article, the author walks through two methods for doing this. First, the author describes the use of organized sentence templates for making collaborative argument more accessible to students. Second, the author lays out a method for facilitating whole-class, argumentative discussions: pop-up debate. Classroom examples are provided to illustrate the concepts

Should Auditors of Nonpublic Companies be allowed to provide Tax Services to their Audit Clients?
This study examines the question of whether auditors should be allowed to perform tax services for clients that they also provide the audit. The question was examined by looking at bankers' perceptions of auditor independence, objectivity and reliability of the report on the financial statements when the auditor also performs tax compliance services for (1) the audit client and (2) company executives. We randomly selected bank loan officers from a commercial prepared list and mailed a questionnaire to each participant. Questionnaire results, based on 181 participants, indicate that bank loan officers believe attest auditors should be allowed to provide tax compliances services to the client even though they may be auditing some of their own work. Results also indicate that bank loan officers think that independence and objectivity would be impaired and reliability of the auditor's report would not be enhanced if the auditor provides tax compliance services to the client and the client's executives they also audit

An in-depth look into Atlanta's Black on Black violent crimes, 1980
The primary intent of this thesis is to show that Black people are systematically destroying each other and their communities. It shows how this is manifested through violent crimes. Further, it demonstrates that some of Atlanta's Black people and communities are undeniably caught in the forces of destruction and violence. This thesis is significant because it is regarding Atlanta's Black on Black violent crimes. It is significant because something has to be done in response to Atlanta's rapidly rising rate of violent crimes among Blacks. It is significant because the issue of intra-racial racism has to be treated and brought under control. Intra-racial racism is no 10nlSer an issue that can be denied or pushed a,side. It is significant because the so ca,lled authorities have not been able to come up with a concrete set of reasons to explain Black on Black violent crimes. Educators, economists, law enforcement officials, sociologists, psychiatrist and psychologists all offer different causations of Black on Black violent crimes.
This thesis is limited because of the small amount of information available. It is further limited because it focuses on one large city: Atlanta. It is limited because of the lack of in-depth studies done by dedicated Black professionals. Black professionals who are "Black" beyond the level of physiological characteristics. Black professionals who feel good about being black. The study is limited because of the lack of Black researchers, Black sociologists, Black psychiatrists, and Black lawyers working together in an effort to address the etiology of Blacks and violent crimes. It's limited because of the one sided information a.vailable to the public. Books that have been written and studies that have been conducted have either been done by white people or they were active participants. Hence, available data is that of a white prespective. People have been taken in by misconceived facts. The primary source of information were books, magazines and information obtained from Atlanta's Crime Analysis Team monthly and yearly reports. Atlanta has some Black communities that possess all of the components of a time bomb. If its Black on Black crime problems are not dealt with realistically, then, certain areas are doomed to destruction. The irony is that this destruction would not have caused by the "White man" but by the "Black man.
Developing Core Leadership Competencies for the Library Profession
The development of competencies, competency lists, or competency models has become a popular way to assess the strengths, needs, and potential contributions of individuals in an organization. The success of libraries as organizations is determined by the actions of the individuals who work in those libraries; the success of those individuals in carrying out the missions of those libraries is in large measure a reflection of the type and quality of leadership. Successful library leaders demonstrate certain skills that are instrumental in the delivery of desired outcomes. We usually think of the demonstration of these skills as competencies.
Creating a list of competencies for library leaders is a key objective envisioned in the strategic plan of the Library Leadership Administration and Management Association (LLAMA). This task was assigned to five members of the 2008 class of the American Library Association’s Emerging Leaders Program. The project is a critical first step toward a list of competencies or standards that would serve at least three types of users: library educators planning curricula, aspiring library leaders hoping to advance their careers, and experienced library leaders seeking to advance the profession. This article will provide an overview of the library literature addressing competency models, describe the process used to develop the competency model for library leadership, review competency models found in the literature of other professions, and discuss the proposed core competency model for leadership in our profession

Marlena Shaw is among the most versatile and charismatic jazz vocalists performing today. Her music career began in 1963, when she worked with jazz trumpeter Howard McGhee, and by the mid-\u2760s she was performing regularly for audiences in the Catskills, around Manhattan, and at Chicago’s Playboy Club. In 1966, she recorded Mercy, Mercy, Mercy for Cadet Records. The rare vocal version of the tune prompted executives to invite her to record two albums for the label, both of which showcase her broad range of styles, including blues, jazz, and pop. She went on to tour with the Count Basie Orchestra for four years, and was eventually signed to Blue Note Records, recording five albums and several singles for the label. Fleet Introduction Project for the United States Navy's Next Generation Bathythermograph Recorder System
The following report presents the preliminary design and prototype development phase of a technology insertion program implemented by this author to extend the service life and to improve the performance of the United States Navy's Bathythermograph Data Recorder System onboard Submarines (AN/BQH-7) and Surface Ships (AN/BQH-7A). The performance upgrade will increase the Fleet User's ability to measure sonar performance and will provide more accurate salinity measurements used for submarine ballasting and control. This project is unique not necessarily because Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) and Non-Developmental Item (NDI) componentry is being used but because the focus is on developing a systems engineering process model for (1) the implementation of COTS and NDI technologies in an open systems architecture environment, (2) a maintenance, sparing, and life cycle support model for COTS and NDI programs, and (3) a periodic technology insertion plan for keeping pace with COTS and NDI technology advances and configuration changes. It is intended that this report be used in the future as a good example of the successful implementation of Acquisition Reform and DoD 5000.2B initiatives.Master of Scienc
