The impact of epilepsy on quality of life: Findings from a European survey
Introduction: Epilepsy is a serious neurological disorder affecting the quality of life (QoL) of people with this condition. A survey was conducted in five European countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK) to understand the impact and burden of epilepsy and its treatment on the lives of people with epilepsy (PWE). Methods: Five hundred PWE (taking >1 antiseizure medication [ASM]) and 500 matched controls completed a 30-minute online questionnaire. The 12-Item Short Form Survey (SF-12) was used to measure QoL and the Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy (NDDI-E) was used to screen for major depressive disorder (MDD) symptoms. Results: Comorbidities such as migraine, high cholesterol, osteoporosis, and Type 1 diabetes were reported more commonly in PWE, while anxiety disorders, high blood pressure, skin disorders, and mood disorders were more common in controls. However, compared to controls, a significantly higher percentage of PWE had an NDDI-E score of 15–24 (54% vs 35%; p < 0.0001), indicative of MDD symptoms. Significantly more PWE than controls were part-time employed (15% vs 11%; p = 0.03). People with epilepsy had a significantly lower total SF-12 score than controls across the physical and the mental components; compared to controls, a significantly higher proportion of PWE defined their general health as ‘poor’ or ‘fair’ and felt limited in carrying out daily and work activities. Among PWE, those taking ≥3 ASMs were more likely to experience difficulties in carrying out these activities than those on two ASMs. Ability to drive, mood, and level of self-esteem were reported as concerns for PWE. Conclusion: Epilepsy has a major impact on the physical and mental health of PWE, interfering with their daily and work activities and overall QoL, and its treatment might also contribute to a lower QoL. The impact of epilepsy on mood and mental health might be under-recognized
Rozmowa o historii misji średniowiecznych
On September 25-26th 2014 the Institute of History, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, has organized a conference „Christianization of Europe. The Church at the turn of the first and second millenium”. It was the first of planned three conferences which preceed the 1050 anniversary of the baptism received by Polish prince Mieszko I in 966 and the official introduction of Christianity to Poland. Prof. Strzelczyk was one of the main organizers of this conference and the discussion reported below touches the subjects related to his professional career as a historian, focusing on the study of the history of Christian missions in Middle Ages.On September 25-26th 2014 the Institute of History, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, has organized a conference „Christianization of Europe. Property development contract in the system of Polish private law

umowy deweloperskiej. When Act on property development of 16 September 2011 entered into force,
an immediate need arose to determine the nature, substance and importance of
a real estate development agreement within the contemporary private law system in
Poland. The article describes a property development agreement as a new type of
a specified contract (contractus nominatus), the legal consequences of the omission of
its statutory elements, why the entry of a purchaser’s claim in the land and mortgage
registry is mandatory and why a notary who evades the duty to enclose the request to
the land and mortgage registry in a notary deed violates the law and exposes himself
not only to liability for damages, but also to disciplinary liability. The article also
explains why a developer should be the owner of the land or at least hold the right
of perpetual usufruct and the legal character of the contract signed in the fulfilment
of the development agreement
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Od misji do wojny świętej i krucjaty. Chrzest pogan w kręgu środkowoeuropejskim a ideologia krucjatowa.
The first monograph to discuss the dissemination of Christianity throughout the European continent and in its immediate vicinity in the first millennium AD appeared in print in 2014 (The Christianisation of Europe. The Church at the Turn of the Second Millennium, Józef Dobosz, Jerzy Strzelczyk (eds), Poznan 2014). This volume seeks to explore the expansion of Christianity in 'the Younger Europe': Central and Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. The book comprises several contributions from leading medievalists, who trace the processes of Christianisation in particular political structures of 'the Younger Europe' (the Scandinavian countries, Saxony, Bohemia, Hungary, Rus', the areas inhabited by the Baits and the steppe peoples of Central and Eastern Europe) and examine issues relating to the missionary doctrine of the then Church, the idea of holy war, the approaches of societies embracing the new religion, the consequences of Christianisation and its perception in collective memory
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
The Christianisation of ‘the Younger Europe’
Poszukiwania początków polskiej państwowości i korzeni zaszczepionej na jej gruncie w drugiej połowie X stulecia religii chrześcijańskiej postępują od momentu ukształtowania się w XIX wieku nowoczesnej historiografii. Stawiane były przez ostatnie dwa stulecia rozmaite pytania o rolę i miejsce chrześcijaństwa w obrządku łacińskim w dziejach państwa piastowskiego i wyrastającej zeń monarchii jagiellońskiej i odrodzonej Rzeczypospolitej. The first monograph to discuss the dissemination of Christianity throughout the European continent and in its immediate vicinity in the first millennium AD appeared in print in 2014 (The Christianisation of Europe. Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
