Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Einfluss des Aquaporin 4 Kanals auf die Kaliumpufferung und die <em>Gap junction</em> Kopplung im Hippocampus der Maus
ZIn dieser Arbeit wurde der Einfluss des knock out von AQP4 auf die Gap junction Kopplung und die K+- Pufferung nach neuronaler Stimulation untersucht. Für diese Untersuchungen wurden Experimente in akuten Hirnschnitten von AQP4ko Mäusen und WT Mäusen durchgeführt. Im ersten Teil der Arbeit wurde die gap - FRAP Methode für die Analyse der Gap junction Kopplung in situ getestet. Es wurden gap - FRAP Experimente in zwei Versuchsreihen durchgeführt. In der ersten Versuchsreihe erfolgte die Anregung der Fluoreszenz mit dem Argon - Laser und in der zweiten mit dem IR Laser. Für den Vergleich der astrozytären Kopplung wurde die maximale Fluoreszenzrückkehr nach dem Bleichen bestimmt. Die Daten der ersten Versuchsreihe lassen für AQP4ko Mäuse eine geringere astrozytäre Kopplung vermuten, als für WT Mäuse. Die Daten der zweiten Versuchsreihe sind Hinweis auf eine höhere Kopplung in AQP4ko Mäusen. Ursache für diese variablen Daten war vermutlich die heterogene Beladung der Astrozyten mit Fluorescin. Eine weitere Analyse der Gap junction Kopplung erfolgte durch die Bestimmung der Farbstoffausbreitung im Synzytium, nach der Injektion in einen einzelnen Astrozyten. Es wurde gezeigt, dass in adulten AQP4ko Mäusen mehr Astrozyten gekoppelt waren, als in den WT Mäusen. Auf Grund der Übereinstimmung dieser Daten mit den Ergebnissen der gap FRAP Experimente der zweiten Versuchsreihe, wird vermutet, dass der knock out von AQP4 die astrozytäre Kopplung beeinflusst. Die Etablierung der astrozytären Kopplung wurde in juvenilen Mäusen bis p13 untersucht. Die Bestimmung des Anteils gekoppelter Astrozyten zeigte, dass am Ende des untersuchten Zeitraums in AQP4ko Mäusen alle gemessen Astrozyten gekoppelt waren, während in WT Mäusen noch ungekoppelte Astrozyten identifiziert wurden. Für AQP4ko Mäuse wurde für einige Zeitpunkte eine höhere Kopplung, als für WT Mäuse gezeigt. Obwohl keine kontinuierliche Zunahme der Kopplung nachgewiesen wurde, können die vorliegenden Daten ein erster Hinweis für eine beschleunigte Etablierung der astrozytären Kopplung in AQP4ko Mäusen sein. Im zweiten Teil dieser Arbeit wurde der Einfluss des AQP4 Kanals auf die K+- Pufferung untersucht. Nach antidromer Stimulation im Alveus wurde mit einer K+- selektiven Mikroelektrode die [K+]o im Stratum pyramidale gemessen. Es wurde gezeigt, dass in AQP4ko Mäusen der normierte Δ[K+]o im Stratum pyramidale geringer war, als in den WT Mäusen. Der kompensierende Wasserfluss bei der Aufnahme von K+ aus dem EZR ist in AQP4ko Mäusen eingeschränkt. Damit verbunden ist eine geringere Volumenabnahme des EZR in AQP4ko Mäusen, so dass die resultierende [K+]o im Vergleich zu WT Mäusen kleiner ist. Die Analyse der Kinetik zeigte, dass bei einer geringen [K+]o die Aufnahme von extrazellulären K+ in AQP4ko Mäusen verzögert ist. Dies ist vermutlich auf Veränderungen der gliale Na+/K+ ATPase in AQP4ko Mäusen zurückzuführen. Für die Untersuchung der Umverteilung des extrazellulären K+ wurde die K+- selektive Mikroelektrode schrittweise vom Stratum pyramidale zur hippocampalen Fissur bewegt. Die stimulationsinduzierte, normierte [K+]o war ab einem Abstand von 300 µm vom Stratum pyramidale in AQP4ko Mäusen größer, als in WT Mäusen. In diesem Bereich strömt K+ und Wasser aus den Astrozyten in den EZR. Dies führt zur Volumenzunahme des EZR. Auf Grund des eingeschränkten Wasserflusses in AQP4ko Mäusen ist die Volumenzunahme des EZR geringer, so dass die resultierende [K+]o höher ist, als in WT Mäusen. Diese Arbeit zeigt, dass der knock out des AQP4 Kanals vermutlich zu einer früheren Etablierung des astrozytären Netzwerkes in juvenilen Mäusen führt und in adulten Mäusen eine höhere astrozytäre Kopplung bewirkt. Weiterhin wurde gezeigt, dass die K+- Pufferung nach neuronaler Stimulation in AQP4ko Mäusen verändert war. Vermutlich ermöglicht die höhere Gap junction Kopplung in AQP4ko Mäusen nach neuronaler Stimulation die schnellere Umverteilung des aufgenommenen K+ und kompensiert somit den eingeschränkten Wasserfluss
