Remittance behaviour and integration process of Ukrainian migrants in Italy and the Czech Republic

This paper uses a case study of Ukrainian migrants in Italy and the Czech Republic to demonstrate the similarities in remittance behavior and integration process of same ethnic group in different destination countries. Our findings show that that remittance behavior of Ukrainian migrants in the Czech Republic and Italy is significantly determined by their financial situation, demographic characteristics, level of human capital and the level of integration as well as the specific context characteristics. In addition, we find evidence for the fact that Ukrainian migrants who are more settled in a target country will send less or no remittances to Ukraine and that therefore the Stark’s hypothesis of remittances decay holds true for this ethnical group regardless of the country of residence

As a result, some EU nations have experienced the inflow of large amount of immigrants and disturbances on their labor markets. With regard to this, the concept of Immigration Surplus that proposes that phenomenon of immigration can trigger a process of redistribution of wealth that could enhance the level of production and increase the national income can be applied for analyzing these processes. In addition, research literature suggests that deeper integration of immigrants into host countries can lead to higher levels of economic success. Thus, high levels of..

Labour market restrictions and migration flows in the European Union: the case of Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine

    No full text
The thesis aims to estimate the future migration flows from Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova to the EU. Based on the experience of previous EU enlargements and econometric modelling using the method of Ordinary Least Squares with Fixed Effects, multiple forecasts are created. The forecasts capture the likely development of migration flows in the event of collapse of labour market restrictions as well as the case of no labour market liberalization. The results show that migration flows are expected to be moderate, posing no threats to the stability of the labour markets of EU member states. The increase of migration due to the accession to the EU is likely to be short-term, without substantial impacts in the long-run. Ukraine has the biggest migration potential and is likely to supply the highest amount of labour migration

Ekonomika cestovního ruchu a cestovaní: porovnaní výjezdového cestovního ruchu v Česku a Německu

The aim of this thesis is to compare tourism flows in two countries, Germany and the Czech Republic. Although there are many articles about tourism demand, almost all of them deal with the case study of just one country and do not engage in intra-country comparison. The first part of the Bachelor thesis introduces the general terms with definitions and statistical classification of tourism demand. The main part of the thesis is dedicated to the econometric research that discovers tourism demand of Germany and the Czech Republic and searches for macroeconomic determinants which may influence the number of outbound holiday trips. The last part summarizes the results that, due to the different living standards in Germany and in the Czech Republic, are interesting and demonstrate that the behaviour of German and Czech tourist varies considerably.

Práce má z cíl odhadnout budoucí migrační toky z Ukrajiny, Běloruska a Moldávie do EU. The thesis aims to estimate the future migration flows from Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova to the EU. The effects of labour market institutions on unemployment in the EU

The aim of this thesis is to examine the direct effects of labour market institu- tions on unemployment rates in the selected EU Members. For this purpose, we use macroeconomic cross-country, time series analysis for 21 OECD European members over the 2001-2011 period. The results gained from our empirical ana- lysis are rather inconclusive over the possibility to explain the development of European unemployment solely by analysing the effects of labour market insti- tutions. This finding might as well be caused by the volatile evolution of both output and unemployment over the observed period. The importance of busi- ness cycle is confirmed by our results as the measure for the output gap appears highly significant in every model specification. Unlike the majority of previous literature, in our estimates the proxies for macroeconomic shocks do not turn out to be significant. Hence, we decided not to examine mutual interactions between macroeconomic shocks and institutions. Estimating the elasticities of labour supply for SMEs in Bosnia and Herzegovina

This Master thesis aims at testing the intertemporal substitution hypothesis (ISH) for small and medium enterprises in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We predicted a positive relationship between the hours worked and the transitory changes in wages, and tested the hypothesis using the data collected via surveys of small entrepreneurs in North-Western Bosnia and Herzegovina; collecting data on daily income and the hours worked. The estimated wage elasticities are positive and different from zero, according to which it appears that the hypothesis of negative wage elasticities has no empirical evidence in the case of Bosnian and Herzegovinian entrepreneurs. This result implies that the intertemporal labour substitution hypothesis found supportive evidence and that we can reject the daily targeting hypothesis. We also argue that entrepreneurs tend to pursue profits across working days because their main motive for running a business is the accumulation of capital and wealth, so that they follow the pattern of intertemporal labour substitution. The findings can be explained by an unfavourable business climate in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is a result of a long-lasting transition process the country is still undergoing.
