No full textIn English.Includes bibliographical references.Derzeit wird die Frage nach der Rolle von Religionen im öffentlichen Raum häufig unter den Vorzeichen Gewalt, Fundamentalismus und Kulturkonflikt betrachtet. Eine andere Perspektive erhält hingegen sowohl in der öffentlichen Debatte als auch in sozialwissenschaftlichen Untersuchungen weitaus weniger Aufmerksamkeit: Wie steht es in Europa um das Verhältnis von Religionszugehörigen und Religionsgemeinschaften zu dem Teil des öffentlichen Raums, der als Zivilgesellschaft bezeichnet wird und der gerade in jüngster Zeit an Bedeutung gewonnen hat? In welchem Maße können und wollen sie über die rituelle Heilsvermittlung hinaus gesellschaftliche Partizipations-, Integrations-, Sozialisations- oder Interessenartikulationsfunktionen - und damit genuin zivilgesellschaftliche Aufgaben - übernehmen? Die Ausgangsfrage des dem vorliegenden Band zugrundeliegenden Forschungsprojekts lautete daher zunächst: Wie steht es um die Zuordnung der Religionsgemeinschaften? Sind sie, möglicherweise sogar unabhängig von ihrem Rechtsstatus, der Zivilgesellschaft neuer Definition zuzuordnen? Autorinnen und Autoren unterschiedlicher Disziplinen haben sich diesem Fragenkomplex in mehreren europäischen Ländern genähert. The WIKA-Workshop 2019 focused on “The Role of Civil Society in Cultural Relations“. It took place on Thursday, 26 September 2019 at ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen) in Stuttgart.

The Socio-political Role of the Hermeneutics of Sacred Texts: the example of the Decalogue
No full textThe aim of my paper is to discuss the way religious practice and personal religiosity promotes (or impedes) civic engagement. Religion, with its system of practices and beliefs, is capable of elaborating a social and political critique that in turn can engender new ways of thinking and putting such critiques into practice.
To argue my thesis, I will focus on the socio-political role of the hermeneutics of sacred texts.
An interpretation of a sacred texts may have an effect on society via 1) the narrative (for example, the liberation of the Hebrews from slavery in Egypt used to promote social revolution); and 2) the power of religious images to effect a transformation of values that promote social change. While seeking to explain a particular text, the interpretation of sacred texts also explains an actual situation by means of such a text

No full textWas ist eigentlich eine Stiftung? Was kann sie, was leistet sie? Wo hat sie in unserer Kultur, wo in einer modernen Gesellschaft ihren Platz? Was haben die Bürgerinnen und Bürger, was die Wirtschaft, was der Staat mit ihr zu schaffen? Und schließlich auch: wie entsteht, lebt und arbeitet sie?Die Zeit, in der Stiftungen als Marginalien gelten konnten, ist auch im Urteil der Öffentlichkeit vorbei. Es scheint, als ob die Stiftung sich zum Inbegriff bürgerschaftlichen Handelns entwickelt, so sehr wird sie gegenüber anderen Formen bevorzugt. Wenn ein Phänomen wie die Stiftung in einer offenen, pluralistischen Gesellschaft an Bedeutung zunimmt, erscheint es notwendig, darüber einen öffentlichen, auch kontroversen Diskurs zu führen.Ein Blick auf die Publikationen der letzten 10 Jahre zeigt, dass juristische Literatur überwiegt. Die Stiftung als historisches, als kulturelles Phänomen kommt im Vergleich dazu ebenso zu kurz wie ihre Beleuchtung nach den Maßstäben empirischer Sozialforschung und die Entwicklung eines ökonomischen Theorieansatzes. Die Praktiker bleiben auf die Erläuterung von Rechtsvorschriften angewiesen, eine Orientierung im Hinblick auf die Zuordnung auf ein gesellschaftliches Leitbild bleibt ihnen versagt.In diesem Handbuch werden theoretische Überlegungen einerseits der Wirklichkeit des juristischen Fundaments und andererseits den konkreten Erfahrungen und Entwicklungen der Praxis gegenübergestellt
From the traditional to the virtual: ex-service organizations, advocacy and lobbying in the 21st century
No full textThe Australian Defence Community (ADC) comprises numerous ex-service organizations (ESOs) and individuals who strive to represent the interests of the members and former members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and their families. The ADC is a largely ill-defined concept despite the long history of the more traditional ESOs which have a lineage going back 50-100 years. This community has a proud history of advocacy and lobbying. This research follows a qualitative design involving an on-going two-phase process. The first phase seeks to identify the changing composition of the ADC and the evolution of the issues being addressed: and the second explores past and current practices and experiences of organising for advocacy and lobbying. In Phase 1 data was sourced from a retrospective review of the magazine of the Australian Defence Welfare Association (DFWA) 'Camaraderie'; existing published studies of ESOs; and one researcher's lived experiences. For Phase 2, data was sourced from semi-structured interviews with members of ESO advisory bodies supplemented by a small email survey of informants from internet-based groups. The data is being woven together into a descriptive account and a thematic analysis. To date, the research has identified three eras of advocacy and lobbying that encompassed the evolution of the ESO community and their practices from WW1 to the present day: the 'traditional', the 'contemporary' (including 'reconnaissance', 'main body' and 'mop-up') and the 'virtual'. The eras are not in a strict chronological sequence rather they follow the development of the Australian defence capability through the nation's development and involvement in war and conflict and the make-up of the various forces used. Thematically, the research is beginning to identify that 'leadership'; 'organisational agility' and effective 'representation' of the issues that reflect the aspirations of the members of the ADC are the missing ingredients across the ADC in the 21st century
