What Is It Like to Be a Bat-Author? Viktor Pelevin's Empire V

    No full text
In this paper, Viktor Pelevin's novel Empire V (2006) is analysed, with its main concern with the status of language, in fiction as well as in contemporary Russian culture. The work is seen as a kind of sequel to Generation 17: whereas that novel predominantly focused on the problem of consciousness, its problematical relation with reality, but expressed this problem in language, in Empire V the problem of language as the form of consciousness is foregrounded; inevitably thus the status of the text we are reading and the relation it has to its author is problematized - as is the relation it has to its reader. It is a text that reflects on what language, its material, does. The possibility is suggested that this novel tries to rind a way out of postmodernism's anxieties about the conscious personality being an illusion, created by his own language.</p

Do trabalho socialmente necessário ao politecnismo a partir de Viktor Shulgin : fundamentos de uma experiência educativa revolucionária

    No full text
This article seeks to understand the relationship between work and education, having as basic reference the Russian experience that took place at the beginning of the 20th century. The referential author of this study is Viktor Shulgin, for being the author who addressed the concept of polytechnics. The article characterizes itself as a literature search. In the end, the present paper shows that, for the author, the work is the dynamic aspect of both the school form and the content. Just because of this understanding in the context of the early 20th century Russia, Shulgin moves from the concept of Socially Necessary Labor to the concept of Polytechnics, which was placed as a necessity in that historic moment

Audience manipulation? Subverting the fourth wall in Pina Bausch’s Kontakthof (1978) and Nelken (1982)

    No full text
Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater breaks everyday behaviour into its most elemental fragments, and fundamental aspects of stage etiquette are constantly challenged, not least the barrier between performer and spectator known as the fourth wall. Accordingly, the hierarchy of the theatre space is thrown into question, and the audience’s preconceived notions of boundaries, appropriate behaviour and expectations are left open ended. In the following article, two case study examples of Bausch’s works—Kontakthof (‘Meeting Place’, 1978) and Nelken (‘Carnations’, 1982)—have been selected in order to demonstrate the range of techniques Bausch employs in manipulating the fourth wall. Both are lengthy in duration and extremely complex, layered works of dance theatre, illustrating Bausch’s varied methods of audience manipulation at what I have identified as a ‘golden period’ in her career. This article explores the process of audience manipulation through Bausch’s peripatetic use of the fourth wall, illustrating that, as dance theatre has evolved, the performance event has become increasingly confrontational and direct, engaging with the audience in a more provocative manner, and calling into question the limits of the theatre space.Publisher PD

Art as Technique : Viktor Shklovsky and Russian Formalism

    No full text
P(論文)Viktor Shklovsky was one of the leading figures of a critical and literary movement called Russian formalism. The members of this group felt that form, rather than content, was the most important aspect of any literary work. Formalist method called for detailing and organizing the literary laws and methods that were unique to literature. The most important theoretical statement of Shklovsky is in his work: "Art as Technique." In this work he sets forth his influential theory of defamiliarization. Defamiliarization is the process whereby an author makes his words or technique seem strange and different to the reader, thereby forcing the reader to see the material in a radically fresh and new way. Finally, formalism is tested by using it to view a short story by Akutagawa, "In a Grove" (Yabu no Naka)

En besynnerlig bibliotekarie [Elektronisk resurs] : Prosafragment av Viktor Rydberg

    No full text
The article presents a hitherto unpublished prose fragment by Swedish author Viktor Rydberg (1828–1895). The fragment, in accordance with Rydberg’s notes entitled “En besynnerlig bibliotekarie” (“A Peculiar Librarian”), is here published for the first time, together with a list of variants in the original manuscript, which itself is preserved in the collections of the Royal Library in Stockholm. Following upon an initial overview of the the fragment’s place in Rydberg’s production, the setting and theme of the fragment are compared to a contemporary and more famous work by the same writer, the romantic novella Singoalla. Romantisk Sagodigt, first published in 1857. Similarities between the two texts are presented in order to cast further light upon the imaginary world of Rydberg during one of his most productive periods as an author. In a concluding discussion, the citings of literary works in the fragment are taken into consideration. The mentioning of the popular German author August Lafontaine’s adventure novels is, among other things, used to interpret the fragment’s title figure as obsolete and foolish. This is, in fact, his “peculiarity”, and the fragment can accordingly be read as a satire.</p

Supervisor's e-mail address: [email protected] Consultant: RNDr. Kateřina Helisová, Ph.D. Consultant's e-mail address: [email protected] Abstract: Several kinds of random union of interacting particles is studied. We define line segment process of interacting particles in R2 and process of interacting surfaces in R3 as the models with density function p with respect to some Poisson point process. The formulas for moments of the geometrical characteristics of these models are derived and the limit behaviour when the intensity tends to infinity is investigated. For time extension of such models a simulation algorithm is developed. Various estimations of parameters of density p, among them those based on sequential Monte Carlo, are studied and compare in a simulation study. Keywords: Boolean model, process with interacting particles, U−statistics, exponential family, germ-grain model, interaction, Markov properties, point process, random closed set, Markov chain Monte Carlo
