The effect of patients’ preference on outcome in the EVerT cryotherapy versus salicylic acid for the treatment of plantar warts (verruca) trial

Randomised controlled trials are widely accepted as the gold standard method to evaluate medical interventions, but they are still open to bias. One such bias is the effect of patient’s preference on outcome measures. The aims of this study were to examine whether patients’ treatment preference affected clearance of plantar warts and explore whether there were any associations between patients’ treatment preference and baseline variables in the EverT trial.
Methods
Two hundred and forty patients were recruited from University podiatry schools, NHS podiatry clinics and primary care. Patients were aged 12 years and over and had at least one plantar wart which was suitable for treatment with salicylic acid and cryotherapy. Patients were asked their treatment preference prior to randomisation. The Kruskal-Wallis test was performed to test the association between preference group and continuous baseline variables. The Fisher’s exact test was performed to test the association between preference group and categorical baseline variables. A logistic regression analysis was undertaken with verruca clearance (yes or no) as the dependent variable and treatment, age, type of verruca, previous treatment, treatment preference as independent variables. Two analyses were undertaken, one using the health professional reported outcome and one using the patient’s self reported outcomes. Data on whether the patient found it necessary to stop the treatment to which they had been allocated and whether they started another treatment were summarised by treatment group.
Results
Pre-randomisation preferences were: 10% for salicylic acid; 42% for cryotherapy and 48% no treatment preference. There was no evidence of an association between treatment preference group and either patient (p=0.95) or healthcare professional (p=0.46) reported verruca clearance rates. There was no evidence of an association between preference group and any of the baseline variables except gender, with more females expressing a preference for salicylic acid (p=0.004). There was no evidence that the number of times salicylic acid was applied was different between the preference groups at one week (p=0.89) or at three weeks (p=0.24). Similarly, for the number of clinic visits for cryotherapy (p=0.71)
Conclusions
This secondary analysis showed no evidence to suggest that patients’ baseline preferences affected verruca clearance rates or adherence with the treatment

yang dibahas dalam skripsi ini adalah bagaimana sikap dan pandangan Kolonel
Alex Evert Kawilarang terhadap Perjuangan Rakyat Semesta tahun 1952-1961.
Dari masalah tersebut kemudian dibagi kedalam tiga pertanyaan, yaitu: 1)
Bagaimana latar belakang kehidupan Kolonel Alex Evet Kawilarang. 2)
bagaimana sikap dan Pandangan Kolonel Alex Evert Kawilarang terhadap
Permesta. 3) bagaimana pandangan pemerintah Indonesia terhadap Kolonel Alex
Evert Kawilarang ketika bergabung dengan Permesta. metode yang penulis
gunakan dalam penulisan skripsi ini adalah metode historis atau metode sejarah
dengan tahapan-tahapan: Heuristik, Kritik sumber, interpretasi, historiografi.
Teknik pengumpulan data yang penulis gunakan adalah studi kepustakaan, dan
studi literatur. Latar belakang kehidupan dan karir Kolonel A.E Kawilarang ketika
periode perang kemerdekaan dan periode kemerdekaan tidak dapat
dikesampingkan. Di akhir karirnya sebagai prajurti, A.E Kawilarang mendukung
Permesta yang dicap Pemerontak. Sikap A.E Kawilarang yang mendukung
Permesta namun kurang setuju dengan cara yang dilakukan Permesta.
Keterlibatan A.E Kawilarang yang minim dalam Permesta menimbulkan banyak
spekulasi mengenai dirinya dari pihak permesta dan juga pemerintahan Indonesia.
A.E Kawilarang memandang Permesta sebagai wadah perjuangan rakayat di
daerah dalam mendapatkan hak-hak daerah. Pemerintah Indonesia memandang

Her storied career has produced a ubiquitous image that remains highly visible within culture. As an ""American sweetheart,"" Evert draws her meaning as a sign for national/gendered identity largely from the differences embodied in her well-chronicled rivalry with Martina Navratilova. Although Martina eclipsed her career record in tournament wins and earnings, ""Chrissie"" remains one of the predominant female sports icons of the postmodern era. Evidence of a profuse literature detailing her career, image and effects within culture stands in sharp contrast to the dearth of scholarly literature which probes meanings of countless narratives about Evert's career. This dissertation opens a space for the theoretical consideration of salient features and meanings produced in the dispersion of Evert's image. The underlying theoretical strategies provided by conjunctural analysis are informed by feminist cultural studies, poststructuralism, performative theory and postmodernism. Physically constrained 2D joint inversion of surface and body wave tomography
No full textJoint inversion of different geophysical methods is a powerful tool to overcome the limitations of individual inversions. Body wave tomography is used to obtain P-wave velocity models by inversion of P-wave travel times. Surface wave tomography is used to obtain S-wave velocity models through inversion of the dispersion curves data. Both methods have inherent limitations. We focus on the joint body and surface waves tomography inversion to reduce the limitations of each individual inversion. In our joint inversion scheme, the Poisson ratio was used as the link between P-wave and S-wave velocities, and the same geometry was imposed on the final velocity models. The joint inversion algorithm was applied to a 2D synthetic dataset and then to two 2D field datasets. We Compare the obtained velocity models from individual inversions and the joint inversion. We show that the proposed joint inversion method not only produces superior velocity models, also generates physically more meaningful and accurate Poisson ratio models
