Navalia civili e commerciali della Pisa romana. Spazi, movimenti e relazioni all’interno di un cantiere sul fiume Auser
The archaeological investigations related to the “Pisa Progetto Suburbio” at the Scheibler Area in Pisa allowed to discover infrastructures, such as stabilization works, slipways, navalia, dating back between the Augustan age and the first half of the 1st century A.D. along the southern bank of the ancient Auser river.
Researches on building yard archaeological evidences, along with the analysis of construction techniques and the procurement of materials, highlighted the work activities’ sequence and the social relationships within the building yard itself.
The elaboration of a three-dimensional simulation of the investigated structures, based on criteria of transparency, also played a crucial role in spaces’ functional analysis, offering the opportunity to understand the physical and sensorial impact of the complex on the surrounding landscape and on the ancient river-goers

Social Place and Space on Early Late Bronze Age Kos: The Burial Arena of Eleona and the Making of Mycenaean Identity in the SASCAR
This paper examines the important role played by the early Late Bronze Age cemetery of Eleona for the making of Mycenaean Kos. Emphasis is placed on burial location, ancient landscape, and tomb categorization, as well as on the composite character of the artifacts associated with the burials. An eclectic approach that takes into account the theoretical frameworks of mobility, acculturation, cultural fusion, and social agency is used to comprehend and interpret the archaeological data. The results of this contribution indicate that Eleona provided a physical and symbolical arena for the development of a Mycenaean landscape and material culture on Kos. These features were implemented using local technology and cultural practices and were thus the result of socio-political strategies actively implemented by the island’s elites. A fresh look at recent data from the wider SASCAR (Southeast Aegean-Southwest Coastal Anatolian Region) shows that this may have been the case for the whole area
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Fra le città. Sulle "fasce di eccettuazione" nella Toscana alto e pieno-medievale (secoli VII-XIII)
The article aims to offer an overview of non-urban areas that, over the long diachrony, served as coordination poles of political, religious, and economic life. These were rural areas located halfway between the major cities of Tuscany, such as Bientina, Pescia, Fucecchio, Empoli, San Miniato, and San Gimignano. Within them, the royal fisc held vast landed estates that benefited from a status of exemption with respect to the ordinary civil and ecclesiastical districts. Ecclesiastical and monastic foundations were founded here by the major political players that gravitated around these estates: primarily, counts and bishops. Here were also formed essential nodes in the connective tissue that innervated early and high-medieval Tuscany, with villages, bridges, ports, and markets. Therefore, we decided to define these areas as “exemption belts”
