Un livre reçu par le patriarche Athanase Ier et retourné à l’expéditeur
The (unedited) prooimion of the Philosophia of George Pachymeres permits the identification of this author with the addressee of a letter of Athanasius I in which the patriarch mentions returning a book to the sender on account of its contents. We can thus follow the development of the conflict between the two men and better understand the historical context of Pachymeres’s Philosophia. Golitsis Pantelis. Book Review of Global Nuclear Developments: Insights from a Former IAEA Nuclear Inspector by Pantelis F. Ikonomou
With a touching dedication to his grandchildren “in the hope that they will live in a world free of nuclear weapons,” a sentiment shared by numerous professionals working in the nuclear security and disarmament circuits, Pantelis F. Ikonomou sets the perfect stage for what is to follow in this excellent work. The author brings in his career-long expertise from important and sensitive programs, projects, and missions he has served in with the mother of all nuclear 3S (safety, safeguards, and security) organizations, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)
The interpretation of intentionality from dynamic scenes:
This thesis explores how the mind uses the motion of animate objects to make inferences about these objects' underlying mental states, intentions, goals, or dispositions. We present dynamic scenes to subjects in which autonomously programmed triangular "agents"' interact with each other and--in two of the experiments--an additional agent that is controlled by the subject. We strive for the autonomous agents to be simple in their underlying programming but to also engage in a rich array of lifelike behaviors. Subjects watch short simulations populated with these agents and then are asked questions designed to probe their perceptions of the similarities among the agents' behaviors. We use the responses to derive a multidimensional scaling (MDS) solution for the agents in our set. The aim is to relate this MDS solution to the underlying programming on one hand, and to also discover interesting structure in subjects' perception of the "agent space." Clusters in this space, for example, could provide insight into the perceptual biases subjects bring to the experiment for which types of agents are a priori more likely to be observed. The most robust result from the experiments is that subjects, in making inferences about an agent's intentions, pay special attention to how the agent reacts when another agent is at a "critical distance" of about 10-17.5 agent lengths away.M.S.Includes bibliographical references (p. 26-27)by Peter C. Concentration in Knowledge Output:A Case of Economics Journals
Journals moderate knowledge activity in economics. The activity of publishing article in professional journal forms significant part of knowledge output. Output of economics articles has been growing over the time. We examine an important question: Is there any case of institutional or location concentration in knowledge production? This paper analyses concentration indicators specific to economics journals and explores link between publication process and concentration. The analysis of various concentration measures present evidence for institutional-geographic-area-author concentration in Knowledge production in Economics. High concentration levels indicate possibility of institutional lock-in. The literature provides evidence for myopic refereeing, editorial favouritism and the presence of ‘lock-in’ effect. The achievement in journal publication is influenced by factors like institutional affiliation, propitious circumstances etc. Discussion carried out in this paper hints the possibility of causal link between unfair process and unfair outcome.Knowledge,Lotka's Law,Fourier Series

Wilson’s Disease: Neurological Aspects, Clinical Manifestations, and Treatment Considerations
On the book: Pantelis Lekkas, Abstraction and experience: a formalist view of the ideological phenomenon
Γι’ αυτό και ο τίτλος του βιβλίου είναι «αφαίρεση και εμπειρία».Normally, given that in contrast to most European party systems the Greek system now includes parties that cover the entire spectrum of 20th-century ideologies, from Nazism to Stalinist Marxism, passing through neoliberalism, social democracy and movement socialism, we should constantly be discussing political ideologies. And this, regardless of the question of whether Golden Dawn voters are Nazis or whether Greek parties are authentic representatives of one ideology or another. The question for discussion should be in what ways parties and their supporters reconcile their "abstractions" with their "experiences". This is one of the main questions of Pantelis Lekkas's latest book. The author does not deal with the disputes of Greek parties but, as he writes on the first page of the book, wonders with genuine theoretical interest about "the distance between words and deeds in politics" (p. 1). He also wonders and seeks to understand with the tools of sociological theory and historical sociology how those involved in disputes persist in their obsessions and do not recognize the perspective and data provided to them by their interlocutors. They persist in their "abstractions", adapting their "experiences", that is, interpreting them in a way that leaves the "abstractions" almost invulnerable. This is why the title of the book is "abstraction and experience"

Road Detection from Remote Sensing Imagery
Road network maps facilitate a great number of applications in our everyday life. However, their automatic creation is a difficult task, and so far, published methodologies cannot provide reliable solutions. The common and most recent approach is to design a road detection algorithm from remote sensing imagery based on a Convolutional Neural Network, followed by a result refinement post-processing step. In this project I proposed a deep learning model that utilized the Multi-Task Learning technique to improve the performance of the road detection task by incorporating prior knowledge constraints. Multi-Task Learning is a mechanism whose objective is to improve a model's generalization performance by exploiting information retrieved from the training signals of related tasks as an inductive bias, and, as its name suggests, solve multiple tasks simultaneously. Carefully selecting which tasks will be jointly solved favors the preservation of specific properties of the target object, in this case, the road network. My proposed model is a Multi-Task Learning U-Net with a ResNet34 encoder, pre-trained on the ImageNet dataset, that solves for the tasks of Road Detection Learning, Road Orientation Learning, and Road Intersection Learning. Combining the capabilities of the U-Net model, the ResNet encoder and the constrained Multi-Task Learning mechanism, my model achieved better performance both in terms of image segmentation and topology preservation against the baseline single-task solving model. The project was based on the publicly available SpaceNet Roads Dataset.Geomatic
Where Is My Tag?: Unveiling Alternative Uses of the Apple FindMy Service
Bluetooth trackers, or tags, have quickly become ubiquitous and widely supported by multiple vendors. Beyond their original design of finding lost objects, these devices have the ability to extend the capabilities of current wireless smart devices. Since its launch in 2019, Apple’s FindMy enables any devices from their brand to be easily tracked by more than 1 billion active iPhones and iPads on the market. While convenient, these systems may even serve further uses, including as a result of this work, crowd sensing and a side channel for mobile communication. But they also raise privacy concerns for their users. In this paper, we demonstrate how Apple FindMy can be used as a privacy-friendly tool for crowd monitoring, and how it may inadvertently leak information on a person’s location in case of deliberate tracking. Additionally, we design and evaluate a proof of concept protocol, using the Apple FindMy and a crafted tag using a simple microcontroller. We show how such system could be used to transmit information at very low bit rates, while the devices transporting the information remain unaware of this covert channel, yielding an out of band communication channel.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.Information and Communication Technolog
