Data Warehouse implementation success and failure factors : case study IBM BDW implementation at the State Savings Bank of Ukraine
The main goal of this study is to find the answer to the question of how can be mitigated the resistance to changes in such a complex IT projects. In this work the author is assuming that the resistance to changes can be mitigated via the improvement of communications and via involvement of end-users into MIS development process. The main hypothesis of this study is that the communications with end users could be improved via a web-based annual interview. The Introduction section offered a brief overview of objectives, goals and the author's motivation of this study. It also contains the short introduction of the State Savings Bank of Ukraine as the bank under investigation within this study. In the first chapter, the author analyses the bank value chain and business model and its connection to IT architecture and MIS organisation. The Chapter introduces the importance of the existence at the bank of the clear business architecture and main organizational functions before the start of any fundamental changes. Chapter two offers a case study of the MIS and DWH implementation at the State Savings Bank of Ukraine based on IBM BDW and IBM Cognos BI tools. It provides a short introduction and background of the project, and presents the project management methodology applied. This chapter summarizes the key success factors of the project. In this chapter, the author uses IBM manual books and presentation materials for the IBM BDW implementation projects. Chapter Three presents the questionnaire that has been developed to involve the State Savings Bank of Ukraine' top and middle management into creating a shared vision of strategic KPIs of the bank for MIS. The chapter introduces the methodological approach applied for the questionnaire development, and formulates the interview objectives. The author describes target groups of the interview, and explains the questionnaire structure. The last section of questionnaire also includes the demand assessment for other BI reporting in 2016. It strives to involve bank management into reports systematization and prioritization. At the end of this paper, the author concludes that an annual questionnaire can be used as a tool to build up communication and to involve users in MIS development process at all levels of organisation on an on-going basis. At the end of this work, the author presents the interview analysis and a summary of his main findings and assumptions. At the conclusion the author also presents limitations of the study and future needed researches as well as his ideas and suggestions for improvement of complex IT projects results
Agile software development within the flat organization case study: evaluating the implementation in a small tech start-up
The present study focuses on giving a short overview of different organizational structures and of most famous Agile frameworks, in order to provide a background context for conducting research in a small software company. By focusing on a specific software company, the study aims to assess the effectiveness of the organizational structure selected for this company and if and how this structure relates to the success -or not- of Agile implementation. The population of the study includes the aforementioned software company and the participants are 28 employees of this company and the 3 people of whom the company's leadership consists. The literature review of Agile, the differences, advantages and disadvantages of each organizational structure as well as the personal professional experience of the author in the company as well as in the field of Agile helped formulate the objectives and research questions of this study. A questionnaire was designed and provided to the 28 participants and follow-up clarifications, comments and interviews with the leadership were conducted when needed. Literature review demonstrates that choosing the appropriate structure to fit the organization or having the ability to adjust it as efficiently when needed, is crucial for every organization. By analysing the questionnaire results and assessing important findings revealed during the interviews, the study revealed that the employees and the company’s leadership perceive the simplicity of structure of the company as a factor that contributes to the successful operation of the company, as they feel it aids in establishing direct communication, cooperation, adaptability, fast decision-making and cross-functionality that are needed in order for Agile software development practices to succeed
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
Blockchain Technology Adoption for Supply Chain Management in Austria
This master’s thesis presents a comprehensive study of blockchain technology adoption for supply chain management in Austria. The thesis includes three literature reviews: one on blockchain technology, another on its application tosupply chain management, and a third on blockchain adoption studies and theories.Based on the findings from the literature reviews, a new approach for studying blockchain adoption was developed. Our adoption framework is based on aprocessual approach that includes Neo-Institutional Theory and the Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework. It was tested in a preliminary study consistsing of interviews with Austrian organizational managers. The development of this new framework was necessary due to the structure ofthe Austrian economy, which consists of a majority of small and medium-sizedenterprises (SMEs). As discovered during the literature review, existing literature on blockchain technology adoption for supply chain management does not adequately address the role of SMEs in this process. The main idea of our frameworkis to focus on the inter-organizational environment and use the supply chain asthe unit of analysis rather than the individual company, which allows for a better evaluation of the situation and expectations of organizations about the adoptionof blockchain technology for supply chain management. The findings of the study showed the importance of taking the structure of the supply chain into account when studying blockchain adoption in this context and therefore indicate the validity of the developed framework. Furthermore, the findings provide valuable insights into the current situation of the adoption process of blockchain technology for supply chain management in Austrian organizations. In addition, the findings suggest that future blockchain technology adoption studies for supply chain management should be separated based on different adoption scenarios and differentiate between developing and participating companies inthe blockchain solution. This approach will provide a more useful understanding of the factors that influence the adoption of blockchain technology in the supplychain management field. Finally, the results of this thesis indicate that, atthe current moment, it should be of high importance for Austrian policymakers to support those companies that might be facing a mandatory adoption of blockchain technology for supply chain management, demanded by other participants in their supply chain
koamabayili/VECTRON-author-checklist: VECTRON author checklist
We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
