A new species of Anadia (Reptilia, Squamata) from the Venezuelan 'Lost World', northern South America
A new gymnophthalmid lizard of the genus Anadia Gray, 1845 is described from the summit of Abakapá-tepui, Bolívar State, Venezuela, between 2200-2242 m elevation. The new species, Anadia mcdiarmidi sp. nov., is endemic to the Chimantá Massif and seemingly also occurs on Amurí-tepui and Murei-tepui. The new taxon is mainly distinguished from all known congeners by the following combination of characters: body fairly robust, dorsal scales small and quadrangular, middorsal scales 53-57, suboculars large, subequal in size, with sometimes one scale slightly protruding downward between 4th and 5th supralabial, nasal entire, without sub-nostril groove, body uniform beige or greyish to bluish brown in life, devoid of any conspicuous pattern in males, venter immaculate golden grey in life, femoral pores 9-10 on each side in males, preanal pores absent, hemipenis globose, weakly bilobed, bordered by numerous fl ounces (>20) bearing comblike rows of minute weakly mineralized spinules. The presence of a species of Anadia, a primarily Andean genus, on the top of tepuis is of considerable interest to the understanding of the Pantepui biogeography
Amphipholis squamata
Amphipholis squamata (Delle Chiaje, 1828) Asterias squamata Delle Chiaje, 1828: 74, pl. 34, fig. 1. Amphipholis squamata — Ljungman 1872: 633. Material examined: Gulf of Oman, Iran, Tis, intertidal, hand collected, January 2019, collector Yaser Fatemi, 1 spm [not kept]. Habitat: Intertidal shell and gravel bed, under a stone (present study), grass bed and subtidal sand, 10–34 m (Price 1981; present study) (Fig. 2E). Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman: Tarut Bay (25), Jinna Island (21), Tis (16), Bahrain (ibid.). Indian Ocean: Southern Africa (Clark & Courtman-Stock 1976), West Indian Ocean (Clark & Rowe 1971), Gulf of Mannar (James 1985), Pakistan (Kazmi & Tahera 2003), Mascarene Isl. (Boissin et al. 2016), Scattered Isl. (Conand et al. 2016). Remarks: A record from Chabahar Bay by Attaran-Fariman & Beygmoradi (2016) is an error and omitted here. Their images show an animal with narrow, sunken in radial shields (Amphipholis has short, half-circle shaped ones), bell-shaped overlapping dorsal arm plates (separated in A. squamata), small narrow tentacle scales (larger oval in A. squamata), widely separated infradental papillae (close together in A. squamata), and the distal oral papilla is only slightly widened, not as wide as in A. squamata. In addition, according to the scale bar on the images, the animal had a disc diameter of 8 mm, which is larger than A. squamata (maximum 5 mm), and they reported the arms to be 6 cm long, whereas A. squamata has about 2 cm long arms. The characters fit with Amphiodia, but the images do not show the necessary details for species identification. Consequently, the material found by the present study is the first record of A. squamata from the Gulf of Oman. Echinogorgia squamata
? Echinogorgia squamata (Nutting, 1910) Placogorgia squamata Nutting, 1910: 81, pl. 12, figs. 2–2a, pl. 22, fig.8. (Indonesia). Opinion: There is no evidence that this species occurs in the region. Justification: These Indian records seem to be either invalid or unconfirmable: Fernando 2011: 40–41, pl. 17, fig. 2–2c (Pamban); Fernando et al. 2017: 81, pl. 35, fig. 1–1c (Pamban). Literature analysis: The descriptions of the Indian material as Discogorgia squamata by Fernando (2011) and Fernando et al. (2017) are identical, and in their list of synonymies they cite “ Placogorgia squamata Nutting, 1910: 81 ” and “ Discogorgia squamata Kükenthal, 1919: 812 ”. This Kükenthal reference appears to have a typographic error for page 842 where the genus Discogorgia is established and assigned as a senior synonym to “ Placogorgia (part.) Auct.”, and the Indian authors have apparently assumed Nutting’s species P. squamata should be included. But in the same tome, Kükenthal (1919: 277, 280) stated that the new species of Placogorgia established by Nutting belong largely to the genus Echinogorgia, including P. squamata, and that proper identifications could not be made because Nutting did not provide adequate descriptions and the original specimens needed re-examining. Placogorgia squamata appears under its original name in Kükenthal’s 1924 publication with the comment that it is probably an Echinogorgia. Without a more detailed description of the colony and the sclerites it is not possible to accurately ascertain the genus of the material described by Fernando (2011) and Fernando et al. (2017), which is reported to have: some fusiform sclerites that resemble the scaphoids of Pseudopterogorgia; and “irregular shaped, mostly ellipsoid or fusiform warty discs” averaging 0.48–0.64 mm long, some reaching 0.97 mm, that are concave on the “subsurface” and finely tuberculated on the “flat surface”. Nutting did not mention the size of the sclerites in his material, but he did say there were no large spindles, and the largest of the two sclerites in his figure 8, plate 22, is about 0.27 mm across. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Melithaea squamata
Melithaea squamata (Nutting, 1911) Melitodes squamata Nutting, 1911: 41–42, pl. 7, fig. 1&1a; pl. 12, fig. 1 (Timor). Melithaea squamata Ofwegen 1987: 10–14, figs. 3–6. Opinion: There is no evidence that this species occurs in the region. Justification: These Indian records are either unconfirmable or seem to be invalid: Fernando, 2011: 23, pl. 5, figs. 1&1c (SW coast); Fernando et al. 2017: 39, pl. 15, fig. 1, 1a,1b &1c (SW coast). Literature analysis: Nutting erected this species under the original name Melitodes squamata, for a specimen collected in Indonesia. The accounts of the Indian material by Fernando (2011) and Fernando et al. (2017) are identical, but instead of descriptive text there is a reference to the paper by Ofwegen (1987) where the sclerites of the holotype are illustrated. The coenenchyme of Melithaea squamata only contains very small sclerites that are predominantly in the form of birotulates or double-discs along with short, broad-headed clubs, and the calyces contain only short knobbed clubs. Although the sclerite illustrations given by Fernando (2011) and Fernando et al. (2017) are exceedingly small, it is clear that they do not match those of the holotype as there are some large warty clubs, many long warty spindles, and a couple of disc-spindles or unilaterally foliate spheroids. Kumar et al.
