Die erloschene Stimme. Biblische Hermeneutik und postmoderner Wissensdiskurs
The study is based on the assumption that the loss of evidence and acceptance in society which the protestant church and theology in Germany have been suffering cannot be reduced to the often disparaged datedness of its practice of mediation and preaching. Rather, it is attributed to a crisis of its specific rationality. Since the beginning of Reformation, the paradigm of ›biblical hermeneutics‹ is the nearly undisputed epistemological horizon of protestant theology. This paradigm is based on the axiom that within biblical texts, methodologically controlled distinctions could be made between ›time-related‹ and ›timeless‹ propositions. The latter possessed – as structural or anthropological ›universals‹ – a quasi-transcendental, normative authority, able to legitimate its unfailing validity even for the present. The irreducible pluralism of meaning, which current approaches in literary studies or deconstructivist theory consider a constitutive concomitant of any reading or interpretation process, had to become a challenge for shaping theological opinion within the paradigm of biblical hermeneutics. Systematic theology and exegesis were to meet this threat by drawing on current approaches in literary and cultural studies such as sociolinguistics, semiotics, cultural anthropology, reader-response criticism, or the theory of interpretation communities, and thus give a future to the method of biblical hermeneutics. Analyzing a representative selection of such interdisciplinary hermeneutical methods, this study is laid out to demonstrate the futility of these efforts. It reaches the conclusion that, because of their different and incommensurable epistemological foundations, the paradigm of cultural theory cannot supplement, only replace that of biblical hermeneutics. Within the theoretical framework of British-American cultural studies, of discourse analysis following Michel Foucault, and of the literary theory of cultural materialism, this study furthermore attempts to develop the fundamentals of a posthermeneutical theology in the context of cultural studies.
Starting from the basic thesis that there is an insoluble connection between the discourse of alterity, on the one hand, and the definition of the relationship between createdness (Geschöpflichkeit) and faith at the other, this study tries to locate the frame of reference from which Muslims approach dialogue with Christians – by describing the paradigms of contemporary Sunni discourse on alterity. For this purpose Chapter I (Foundation) analyzes the multiple perspectives on the createdness (fitra) of human being by focusing on the performative nature of qur'anic discourse. This multiperspectivity – differentiated in three distinct readings of the term fitra – enables Muslim xenology to have different perspectives for relating Islam to alterity in faith and belief. As a necessary preparation for chapter V (Survey) (which by an analysis of contemporary positions regarding faith and alterity casts light on how previous frames of reference in Islamic xenology were possibly transcended) Chapter II (Developments) shows in the framework of a theo-historical analysis how a far-reaching “substantialisation” and “ontologisation” of faith and reason as protological phenomena take place in the context of a theological discourse, which tries to find out specific criteria of membership in the community of salvation. In this framework adherents of other religions are associated with specific categories of deficiency. Chapter III (Profiles) explores the genus proprium of the respective reflection on faith and alterity in Islam and Christianity – and does this by a comparison of two exemplary thinkers of both traditions, namely al-Ghazali and Augustine. The connection between the theory of faith and the discourse of alterity is still more deeply analyzed in Chapter IV (Distinctions), which in an intra-systematic perspective describes the basic premises of the Christian understanding of faith and sin, which articulates itself in a specific eschatological dynamic of thinking, breaking the static of being and allowing a new relation to alterity. On the basis of this previous categorization of the paradigms of alterity, Chapter V (Survey) questions contemporary conceptions of interreligious relations regarding their own “dialogicity”. Related to the readings of the term createdness/Geschöpflichkeit (fitra), as presented in Chapter II, these conceptions are finally differentiated from each other: A. the traditional-missionary paradigm with the fundamental difference between pure and deformed proto-religion; B. the epistemic-oriented reformist paradigm, which by postulating a basic distinction between theoretical monotheism versus atheism allows a particular acknowledgement of monotheistic believers of other religious traditions; and finally, C. the grammatical-pragmatic paradigm, which by postulating a basic distinction between practical monotheism versus idolatry, as well as an understanding of dialogue as one of contextually located “reasons of faith“ („Glaubensvernünfte“), allows for a “dialogical” perception of religious alterity and accordingly an expansion of the restricted scope of Islamic xenology towards a distinctly positive one, which means self-critical interreligious relations in the sense of true “dialogicity.” The conclusion tries to provide an outlook on the future of dialogue, and the results of the study, developed in Chapter I-V, are applied with respect to the subject of human rights in general and the liberty of religion in particular, thus presenting their implications for the practice of Christian-Muslim dialogue as understood primarily as an encounter not of communities, but of individuals.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
