Power-Assisted Lipoplasty Versus Traditional Suction-Assisted Lipoplasty: Comparative Evaluation and Analysis of Output

    No full text
Power-Assisted lipoplasty (PAL) is a new method introduced to simplify and standardize surgical results of traditional suction-assisted lipoplasty (SAL). Comparative studies already have demonstrated PAL to be a handy, atraumatic, time- and fatigue-sparing technique. The authors performed a pilot study to compare the output capacity of PAL and SAL in 15 healthy female patients. The general and the specific per area outputs over 1 min from symmetrical areas were assessed. The results confirmed the efficiency of PAL (17.41% increase in average specific area output, as compared to SAL) and the distribution of fat in major "fat storage" areas such as the abdomen and the anterior thigh. Specific per area output indicated a higher suction capacity for PAL in all areas except the inner thigh. The efficiency of PAL seemed to be less influenced than that SAL by fat distribution

A methodologic approach to define the railway junctions capacity

    No full text
The paper reports a methodologic approach to define the capacity of railway junctions. The railway traffic increase, together with the improvement of passenger comfort, has produced a greater need for electricity. Consequently, solutions to augment the railway system capacity, including railway junctions, have to be achieved. In order to design new plants and to improve or certificate the existing ones, simulation of the overall railway system is necessary. In this paper the Authors propose a guideline with a theoretical approach to study the capacity of railway junctions

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Train braking impact on energy recovery: the case of the 3 kV d.c. railway line Roma-Napoli via Formia

    No full text
The study reports the evaluations of energy recovery through the train braking. The simulations were carried out on an Italian 3 kV d.c. railway line used for high frequency transport. Several cases of braking phases were studied and the energy returned into the system, used by other trains, was reported. The energy dissipated on the on-board rheostat are also highlighted, considering the possibility of reintroducing the recovered energy into the primary power supply through reversible ESSs or storage in ESSs

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Study of dynamic buckling in droppers of high-speed railway line catenary during pantograph passage|Studio del dynamic buckling nei pendini conduttori di una catenaria AV al passaggio del pantografo

    No full text
The dynamical actions to which the catenary dropper is subjected during the pantograph passage can become very relevant for high speeds of railway vehicle. In some very rare and isolated cases, premature failure of the dropper positioned near the suspension and/or near the auto tensioning devices in catenaries for High Speed (HS) operation has been observed. In order to understand the phenomenon, an analysis developed in several activities was carried out, including numerical analyses and in line and in laboratory experimental activities. A final phase of the investigation was dedicated to the development of a prototype of a dropper specifically designed on the basis of the results obtained from this study with the aim of improving the dropper fatigue behaviour. The new dropper could be used in critical points of the overhead line, such as near the suspension and/or near the auto tensioning devices
