Carathéodory periodic perturbations of degenerate systems

We study the structure of the set of harmonic solutions to T periodically perturbed coupled differential equations on differentiable manifolds, where the perturbation is allowed to be of Carathéodory-type regularity. Employing degree-theoretic methods, we prove the existence of a noncompact connected set of nontrivial T-periodic solutions that, in a sense, emanates from the set of zeros of the unperturbed vector field. The latter is assumed to be “degenerate”: Meaning that, contrary to the usual assumptions on the leading vector field, it is not required to be either trivial nor to have a compact set of zeros. In fact, known results in the “nondegenerate” case can be recovered from our ones. We also provide some illustrating examples of Liénard-and φ-Laplacian-type perturbed equation

Periodic perturbations of reducible scalar second order functional differential equations

Using a topological approach we investigate the structure of the set of forced oscillations of a class of reducible second order functional retarded differential equations subject to periodic forcing. More precisely, we consider a delay-type functional dependence involving a gamma probability distribution and, using a linear chain trick, we formulate a first order system of ODEs whose TT-periodic solutions correspond to those of the functional equation

Agent Based Modelling is the most interesting and advanced approach for simulating a complex system: in a social context, the single parts and the whole are often very hard to describe in detail. Besides, there are agent based formalisms which allow to study the emergency of social behaviour with the creation and study of models, known as artificial societies. Thanks to the ever increasing computational power, it's been possible to use such models to create software, based on intelligent agents, which aggregate behaviour is complex and difficult to predict, and can be used in open and distributed systems. Data mining is born in the last decades in order to help users in finding useful knowledge from the otherwise overwhelming amount of data available nowadays from the web and the data collected every day by companies. Data Mining techniques can therefore be the keystone to reveal non-trivial knowledge expressed by the initial assumption used to build the micro-level of the model and the structure of the society of agents that emerged from the simulation
