No full textO meu Relatório de Estágio, intitulado “Willam Carr Beresford: Contributo para um roteiro documental” resulta da investigação por mim efectuada durante o estágio curricular que realizei no ano lectivo de 2012/2013 sobre a tutela do Presidente da Comissão Portuguesa de História Militar General Alexandre de Sousa Pinto e sobre orientação do Professor Doutor António Ventura.
O meu estágio foi realizado no âmbito do Mestrado de História, variante de História Militar, e sobre a orientação da Comissão Portuguesa de História Militar, sediada no Palácio da Independência, na cidade de Lisboa. A CPHM é uma instituição que tem como objectivo institucional “(...) promover, estimular e coordenar a investigação histórico-militar e divulgar os respectivos resultados, realizando encontros, seminários e conferências; desenvolvendo relações com as Universidades para incrementar o interesse de docentes e discentes pelo ensino e estudo da História Militar; assegurando a representação internacional de Portugal...” (General Alexandre de Sousa Pinto, Mensagem do Presidente - http://www.cphm.pt/)
Durante o estágio e a pedido da CPHM, procedi à catalogação de um espólio documental relativo a William Carr Beresford, reunido pelo Engenheiro Fernando Figueiredo em arquivos ingleses, enquadrado no projecto da criação de uma Biografia sobre William Carr Beresford.
Este trabalho implicou retirar os documentos da ordem desorganizada em que se encontravam, para os organizar de raiz. Dividi a documentação: Apontamentos Fernando Figueiredo; Bibliografia; Cronologia; Correspondência; Fontes e Referências. Após unir e catalogar toda a informação, elaborei um novo sistema de referenciação.
Este meu trabalho tem como objectivo simplificar a vida do investigador, na sua pesquisa dando-lhe dados sobre o tipo de documentos existentes na CPHM relativos a William Carr Beresford, assim como divulgar o projecto e o seu percurso até à data.Abstract: My Internship Report entitled “William Carr Beresford: Contributions towards a documental roadmap” is the result of the research I carried out during the traineeship I conducted throughout the academic year of 2012/2013. I was supervised by the President of the Portuguese Commission of Military History, General Alexander de Sousa Pinto and by Professor António Ventura.
The internship was part of the MA programme in History, specializing in Military History. My work was developed in the Portuguese Commission of Military History, located at the Palácio da Independência, in Lisbon. The Commission is an institution that aims "(...) to promote, encourage and coordinate historical-military research and disseminate their investigation and results through meetings, seminars and conferences, developing relationships with universities to increase the interest of teachers and students for teaching and study of Military History; ensuring international representation of Portugal (...) On the Stability of the Wealth Effect
No full textEvidence of instability of the wealth effect in the USA is presented through the estimation of a Markov switching model of the long-run aggregate consumption function. The dating of the regimes appears to bear relation to movements in asset prices. A model-based explanation of the findings is suggested, highlighting the importance of the short-run relation between consumption, income and wealth in explaining the estimated long-run coefficients.Parameter instability, Markov switching, Consumption, Wealth effect.
D. Alexandre de Sousa e Holstein e a cultura lusitana numa Roma em ebulição (1790-1803)
No full textThe neoclassical conceptions, promoted by the theoretical production of Winckelmann and Mengs found a concrete application in Rome at the end of the eighteenth century in the artistic education of the young Portuguese people sent by the Casa Pia of Lisbon or provided with alternative scholarships such as Sequeira or Vieira Portuense. The foundation of an ephemeral Academy of Fine Arts found in D. Alexandre de Sousa e Holstein a refined and educated protagonist who saw his project interrupted by family issues and by the European political turbulence, which prefigured the invasion of the city of Pius VI by the army of Berthier in 1798. It will be the same diplomat who, in his second mission, will dissolve the Academy planned in collaboration with the Intendant Pina Manique and established with the precious intervention of the art critic, collector and bibliophile Giovanni Gherardo de Rossi. Returned in a devastated Rome, D. Alexandre will die soon afterwards. Coming from an exceptional family and giving birth to an illustrious progeny, in his sepulchral effigy finely carved by the ineffable Canova he ends symbolically a life that still awaits a deserved extensive study.As conceções neoclássicas, propaladas pela produção teórica de Winckelmann e Mengs, encontraram em Roma, no fim do século XVIII, uma aplicação concreta, no que concerne a formação artística dos jovens portugueses enviados pela Casa Pia de Lisboa, ou vindos com subvenções alternativas, como Sequeira ou Vieira Portuense. A fundação de uma efémera Academia de Belas-Artes teve em D. Alexandre de Sousa e Holstein um protagonista requintado e culto, que viu o seu projeto interrompido por vicissitudes familiares e pela agitação política europeia, pressagiando a invasão da cidade de Pio VI pelas tropas de Berthier em 1798. Será o mesmo diplomata que, na sua segunda enviatura, irá dissolver o estabelecimento, projetado em colaboração com o Intendente-geral Pina Manique e posto em movimento com a preciosa intervenção do crítico de arte, colecionador e bibliófilo Giovanni Gherardo De Rossi. Nessa Urbe que reencontra devastada, irá morrer também, daí a pouco, o próprio D. Alexandre. Provindo de uma família excecional e prosseguidor de uma descendência ilustríssima, tem simbolicamente, na efígie sepulcral, finamente cinzelada pelo inefável Canova, a chave de ouro com que fecha a sua vida - uma vida que espera ainda um merecido estudo de grande fôlego.
