Transitional measures. : Study of the breackdown of diazoic species by a multi technical approach.
Molecular identification and characterization have now become inseparable from organic synthesis. However, when the synthesized compound is a transient species, there are few analytical devices for its determination. Our laboratory has an apparatus dedicated to the study of transient species, the photoelectronic spectrometer with UV radiation. It has made it possible to characterize, among other things, a large number of gas-phase compounds, by determining their ionization potentials. In addition, in order to expand our analytical range we developed during this thesis a coupling between a cryostat, which allows to trap these species at very low temperature and an IR spectrometer, in order to have a spectral signature. This combined comparison of the results from these two techniques allowed us to characterise hetero-carbenes with a very short service life ( s).Thus, after describing the various works that have in the past made it possible to identify derivatives of non-current co-ordinations of the family of silicon, germanium, phosphorus, arsenic, and carbon, we will show how we were able to obtain the electronic fingerprint of phospha-carbenes, thio-phospha-carbenes and sila-carbenes, which had previously never been identified. These analyses were conducted in parallel with modelling studies that allowed us not only to support the interpretation of the resulting photoelectronic and infrared spectra, but also to explain the reaction mechanisms that give us access to these transient species. Finally, this complementary computational approach also provided additional information on all the electronic and structural properties of the compounds analysed
Theoretical approach for the comprehension of the N-Heterocyclic carbene’s reactivity to the (meth)acryliques systems. Application for the polymerization
The main objective of this thesis was to understand, by a joint theoretical/experimental approach, polymerization reactions of polar monomers, especially (meth)acrylic derivatives, organocacatalyzed polymerizations by N-Heterocyclic carbenes (NHC) used alone or in combination with an organic molecule (alcohol) or a Lewis acid. Rationalization of both electronic and steric effects of the carbene was performed on the first steps of the polymerization mechanism by the functional density theory (DFT) and also on potentially competitive mechanisms (cyclodimerization) by two theoretical methods: DFT and molecular dynamics (MD). The addition of a third molecule such as an alcohol or a Lewis acid (borane or silane) has also been theoretically studied in detail in order to better understand the effect of this association on the nature of the privileged pathway and the effectiveness of the polymerization
Pi-conjugated nanostructures from biosourced precursors for optoelectronics applications
Organic semiconductors (OSC) are used in various applications such as organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), which have the advantage of being light and adaptable to flexible substrates, with reduced manufacturing costs thanks to the use of thin films of nanometric thickness materials. Nevertheless, these organic semiconductors being obtained from raw materials of petroleum origin because of their low cost, alternatives must be found to meet environmental and societal concerns while remaining in line with global demand. In the framework of our objective aiming at OLED applications, we have considered an original way for the elaboration of pi-conjugated Donor-Acceptor (D-A) motifs with a low carbon footprint made of relevant biosourced precursors and presenting emission properties according to a Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence (TADF) mechanism. For this purpose, we have coupled an experimental approach involving the synthesis of these biosourced pi-conjugated structures with a theoretical approach involving molecular modeling work for the description of reaction mechanisms or the calculation of the optoelectronic properties of the obtained compounds. In parallel, the theoretical approach has also been used to efficiently guide the construction of new non-fullerene acceptor (NFA) structures for applications in the field of organic photovoltaics. In a first part of the work, we focused on the construction of the biosourced pi-conjugated donor unit obtainable through an intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction, followed by a dehydrogenation reaction. While from an experimental point of view the operating conditions implemented to perform the Diels-Alder reaction under microwave activation in ethanol led to a secondary reaction, the theoretical approach allowed us to demonstrate that a first order nucleophilic substitution seems to be preferred over the Diels-Alder reaction. The latter was finally carried out in 94% overall yield using dimethylacetamide while the use of nitrobenzene as solvent and oxidant allowed the dehydrogenation reaction to be carried out successfully in 91% overall yield. To achieve the target biosourced D-A structure, a key step aims at linking the donor and acceptor units via a Sonogashira reaction or Negishi coupling. Nevertheless, in order to circumvent difficulties preventing us from reaching the coupling product, it was decided to very slightly modify the target molecule and were able to synthesize and characterize several D-A compounds, including the biosourced pi-conjugated unit in 11% yield. Consequently, a preliminary evaluation of the optoelectronic properties of the different D-A compounds was performed by absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy as well as by a theoretical study. These first experimental and theoretical data still need to be deepened in order to verify the performances of these novel pi-conjugated structures with respect to the TADF property. Finally, a last part of the work focused on the modeling of optoelectronic properties of A-D-A type molecules, which can play the role of electron acceptor material in organic solar cells. Starting from four central electron donor units, more than seventy compounds have been studied using acceptor units derived from indane-1,3-dione or rhodanine. In some cases, the confrontation of the calculated data with the experimental data allowed to demonstrate a suitable precision of the level of theory employed, allowing us to consider new targets of interest for the intended applications
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Molecular design for catalytic activities of helical chiral oligoureas
These organic catalysts facilitate reactions that lead to the formation of C-C bonds with extremely high enantioselectivity and loadings as low as 1:10000 chiral catalyst/substrates molar ratios. However, despite the insights gained on the catalytic performance of these urea foldamers, the atomistic scale reaction mechanism in which they are involved, as well as the identification of the structural parameters related to their excellent enatioselectivity are not yet well understood. The aim of this thesis is to participate in the elucidation of these aspects by the tools of molecular modeling at the quantum level. This study focuses on the study of a typical reaction catalyzed by these foldamers: the conjugate addition of a pronucleophilic 1,3-dicarbonyl compound to nitroalkenes. To this end, the study is carried out in three parts: i) A molecular recognition analysis of the components of the system based on a global optimization procedure which revealed the most probable anchoring modes of the two substrates on the catalyst; ii) The modeling of the energy profile of these structures which revealed the excellent enantioselectivity of the catalyst as well as the chirality of the molecules formed in excellent agreement with the experimental data. Thus, and in return, these observations lead to the validation of the previously proposed anchoring mechanism. iii) The identification of the electronic and structural parameters at the basis of the enantiocontrol and consequently proposals for improving the foldamers catalytic performance by "molecular design". The results presented here are intended, on the one hand, to serve as a theoretical basis for the improvement of the catalytic properties of these foldamers, and on the other hand, in a more methodological level, to a theoretical investigation modality for catalytic processes with eminently societal scope since it refers to the proposal of solutions for the environment (e.g. the synthesis of bio-based polymers) and energy (e.g. the chemical storage of hydrogen)
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
