Metric manipulations in Haydn and Mozart: chamber music for strings, 1787-1791
Playing with Meter makes a significant contribution to music theory and to the growing conversation on metric perception and musical composition. Focusing on the chamber music of Haydn and Mozart produced during the years 1787 to 1791, the period of most intense metric experimentation in the output of both composers, author Danuta Mirka presents a systematic discussion of metric manipulations in music of the late 18th-century. By bringing together historical and present-day theoretical approaches to rhythm and meter on the basis of their shared cognitive orientations, the book places the ideas of 18th-century theorists such as Riepe, Sulzer, Kirnberger and Koch into dialogue with modern concepts in cognitive musicology, particularly those of Fred Lerdahl and Ray Jackendoff, David Temperley, and Justin London. In addition, the book puts considerations of subtle and complex meter found in 18th-century musical handbooks and lexicons into point-by-point contact with Harald Krebs's recent theory of metrical dissonance. The result is an innovative and illuminating reinterpretation of late 18th-century music and music perception which will have resonance in scholarship and in analytical teaching and practice. Playing with Meter will appeal to students and scholars in music theory and cognition/perception, and will also have appeal to musicologists studying Haydn and Mozart

V príspevku sa definujú všetky aspekty prekladateľskej činností Abrahamowicz. Výskumy v rámci literárnej vedy, kritická, publikačná, redakčná a prekladateľská činnosť, všetky tieto vystúpenia ukazujú jej metódu vnímania prekladu a zdôrazňujú spôsoby, ktorými Abrahamowicz ho implementuje v novy horizont príjmu, aby sa stal faktom prijímajúcej kultúry.The author of the article focuses on the specific school of translation formulated by the well‑known Polish translator of Slovak literature, Danuta Abrahamowicz in the Slovak environment of the second half of the 20th century. The article defines all aspects of Abrahamowicz’s translatological activities. Her literary studies, critical, publishing, editorial and translation activity are examined in the article and finally, the article shows the ways in which Abrahamowicz perceived translation and the various ways of implementing it in a new horizon of reception to become a fact of the target culture

Among numerous books of poetry for children written by Danuta Wawiłow – famous XXth century Polish poet and writer – one book is special: Poems for Naughty Children [Wiersze dla niegrzecznych dzieci] published in 1987. The book is unique not only because of the poetical qualities it represents – rhythmicity, melodiousness, catchiness, melancholy and lyricism equally with pure nonsense, absurdity, grotesque, (black) humour and numerous equivoques and puns, which are characteristic for Wawiłow’s poetical works; above all else Poems for Naughty Children is a collection of translations of the traditional English nursery rhymes, made by Danuta Wawiłow, who claimed more than once that she was a translator long before she had become a writer. The article aims to explore Wawiłow’s translation work which (up to now) remains almost unknown and un-described in Polish theoretical discourse. Być wolnym i odpowiedzialnym – od indeterminizmu do determinizmu w rozwoju myśli filozoficznej
The issue of human free will is relevant to many fields of science. Philosophers have been describing it for more than two and a half thousand years – some proclaim the belief that human free will exists (indeterminism), while others state that it is only an illusion (determinism). From antiquity onwards, there is also no shortage of philosophers admitting that human being has free will, even if he takes action under the influence of many stimuli, which are partially uncontrolled (soft determinism). The subject of the article is a synthetic analysis of selected philosophical concepts referring to human free will from ancient, medieval and modern times up to the beginning of the 20th century. The author intends to prove the thesis that the development of philosophical concepts has primarily moved over the centuries from indeterminism to determinism. Simultaneously, the author points out the influence of philosophical concepts on the justification of human legal responsibility and calls for further research in this area.Zagadnienie wolnej woli człowieka jest istotne dla wielu dziedzin nauki. Filozofowie opisują je od ponad dwóch i pół tysiąca lat – jedni głoszą przekonanie o istnieniu wolnej woli człowieka (indeterminizm), inni zaś twierdzą, że jest ona tylko złudzeniem (determinizm). Począwszy od starożytności, nie brakuje też filozofów przyznających, że człowiek ma wolną wolę, nawet jeżeli podejmuje działania pod wpływem wielu bodźców, częściowo niekontrolowanych (łagodny determinizm). Przedmiotem artykułu jest syntetyczna analiza wybranych koncepcji filozoficznych odnoszących się do wolnej woli człowieka, pochodzących z czasów starożytnych, średniowiecznych i nowożytnych aż do początku XX w. Autorka dowodzi tezy, że rozwój koncepcji filozoficznych szedł na przestrzeni wieków zasadniczo od indeterminizmu do determinizmu. Jednocześnie wskazuje na wpływ koncepcji filozoficznych na uzasadnienie odpowiedzialności prawnej człowieka oraz postuluje dalsze badania w tym zakresie
Danuty Bieńkowskiej refleksje nad polszczyzną biblijną
The article presents the results of the research of Danuta Bieńkowska,
a linguist from Łódź, on the issue of Polish biblical style. For this
purpose the author recalled the main results and findings made by
Bieńkowska in the monograph Polish Biblical Style (2002) published 20
years ago, which was the first attempt at a synthetic approach to this
issue in the Polish language. The author of the study drew attention
to three dimensions of this work, which, from the contemporary perspective,
have the following character: 1) permanent, 2) constituting
a field for discussion and 3) opening perspectives for further research
in this field
