Search for a heavy top-quark partner in final states with two leptons with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

Extent: 35p.The results of a search for direct pair production of heavy top-quark partners in 4.7 fb⁻¹ of integrated luminosity from pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC are reported. Heavy top-quark partners decaying into a top quark and a neutral non-interacting particle are searched for in events with two leptons in the final state. No excess above the Standard Model expectation is observed. Limits are placed on the mass of a supersymmetric scalar top and of a spin-1/2 top-quark partner. A spin-1/2 top-quark partner with a mass between 300 GeV and 480 GeV, decaying to a top quark and a neutral non-interacting particle lighter than 100 GeV, is excluded at 95% confidence level.The ATLAS Collaboratio
Search for diphoton events with large missing transverse momentum in 7 TeV proton-proton collision data with the ATLAS detector

No excess of events was observed above the Standard Model prediction and model-dependent 95% confidence level exclusion limits are set. In the context of a generalised model of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking with a bino-like lightest neutralino of mass above 50 GeV, gluinos (squarks) below 1.07 TeV (0.87 TeV) are excluded, while a breaking scale Λ below 196 TeV is excluded for a minimal model of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. For a specific model with one universal extra dimension, compactification scales 1/R<1.40 TeV are excluded. The story of the Soni Ventorum Wind Quintet
No full textThesis (D. Mus. Arts)--University of Washington, 2000The Soni Ventorum Wind Quintet has been the wind quintet-in-residence at the University of Washington School of Music since 1968. Officially founded in 1962, when its members were on the faculty of the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, the group has had a long and stable history. Through their concerts, tours, and recordings, the Soni Ventorum Wind Quintet has established an international reputation. Over the years, many distinguished composers have written works especially for the Soni Ventorum, thus expanding the repertoire of the wind quintet.This study traces the history of the Soni Ventorum Wind Quintet mainly through interviews with the quintet members themselves. This history includes antecedent quintets in which members of the Soni Ventorum Wind Quintet participated (namely, a student quintet at the Curtis Institute, The American Wind Ensemble of Vienna, and the U.S. Seventh Army Symphony Wind Quintet). It covers the founding of the Soni Ventorum Wind Quintet in 1962 at the Conservatory of Music in Puerto Rico through their tenure from 1968 through the present as the wind quintet-in-residence at the University of Washington in Seattle. It gives an account of the establishment of the Soni Ventorum's recording career, their approach to sound and ensemble, their many tours, participation in festivals and competitions, and personnel. The study details the Soni Ventorum's collaborations with colleagues at the University of Washington School of Music, especially the many composers who wrote pieces for the group. One chapter covers ensemble pieces that have been written for the members of the Son! Ventorum Wind Quintet, while another presents wind quintet and quartet arrangements that were prepared by the quintet members themselves. The final chapter provides biographies of the members of the Soni Ventorum Wind Quintet.The Introduction to the study is a brief history of wind quintets. The study concludes with detailed appendices cataloguing the Soni Ventorum Wind Quintet's repertoire, concerts, residencies, tours and a complete discography.At the time of this writing, the author is aware of no other work detailing the history of an established wind quintet
Sonikot and the Princess Miukhai Soni
No full textThe legend goes that in ancient times, Gilgit was a desolate place and is believed to even have been used as a jail during the era of Hazrat Sulaiman. The area was submerged in water with few habitable spots like Napurabasin, Sonikot, Nayikui, Barmas, and Jutial. It was said that Gilgit was inhabited by jinns, among them a formidable one named Saifur Dev who resided in Napurabasin. Once upon a time a prince named Behram from Iran ventured into the area on a hunting expedition. Upon hearing tales of the dangerous Saifur Dev who dwelled in Sonikot, he also learned of the abduction of a princess, Miukhai Soni, because she only ate bone marrow (miu) also known as soni. This incident gave Sonikot its name. Saifur Dev, known for his immense power and periodic dormancy, had captured Princess Soni on her wedding day, keeping her confined for six months at a time. The prince, determined to rescue her, waited for the moment Saifur Dev would sleep. When the opportune time came, the prince approached Sonikot and conversed with Princess Soni through a window called somu. He devised a plan to free her by using his wit and courage. When Saifur Dev slept, the prince entered the lair through the window, broke the door open from within, and confronted the jinn. Princess Soni, overwhelmed with emotion upon seeing the prince, shed tears of joy and sorrow, having been isolated for so long. The prince, moved by her plight, promised to free her from captivity. With cunning and bravery, he incapacitated Saifur Dev, liberating Princess Soni from her clutches. In the end, the prince married Princess Soni, known also as Guladam, and returned with her to Iran.
This tale became part of both Iranian and Chinese folklore, each claiming ownership of the princess and thereby shaping the narrative of Gilgit's history.2.3.17.
ATLAS search for new phenomena in dijet mass and angular distributions using pp collisions at root s=7 TeV

Extent: 45p.Mass and angular distributions of dijets produced in LHC proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy √s=7 TeV have been studied with the ATLAS detector using the full 2011 data set with an integrated luminosity of 4.8 fb⁻¹. Dijet masses up to ~ 4.0 TeV have been probed. No resonance-like features have been observed in the dijet mass spectrum, and all angular distributions are consistent with the predictions of QCD. Exclusion limits on six hypotheses of new phenomena have been set at 95% CL in terms of mass or energy scale, as appropriate. These hypotheses include excited quarks below 2.83 TeV, colour octet scalars below 1.86 TeV, heavy W bosons below 1.68 TeV, string resonances below 3.61 TeV, quantum black holes with six extra space-time dimensions for quantum gravity scales below 4.11 TeV, and quark contact interactionsThe ATLAS Collaboratio

Get PDFAbstrak: Analisis ini dilakukan berdasarkan kesadaran adanya sesuatu yang berharga pada karya yang diapresiasi. Bertolak dari keinginan menghargai karya puisi yang dihasilkan oleh Soni Farid Maulana, penulis menganalisis puisi karyanya dengan menitikberatkan perhatian pada kehadiran kata ‘hujan’. Data diperoleh melalui kajian pustaka, dianalisis dengan pendekatan struktural semiotik, dengan penyajian deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa kehadiran kata ‘hujan’ sebagai latar dapat mendukung suasana yang kesepian, ketidakpastian, kesyahduan, penuh birahi, dan kesedihan yang mendalam dalam puisi-puisi karya Soni Farid Maulana.Kata kunci: apresiasi puisi, latar hujan, struktural semiotik Abstract: The analysis was conducted based on the awareness of the existence of something of value on the work that is appreciated. Based on the desire to appreciate poetry produced by Soni Farid Maulana, the authors analyze poems by focusing attention on the presence of the word 'rain'. Data obtained through literature review, analyzed by structural semiotic approach, with the presentation of qualitative descriptive. The analysis showed that the presence of the word 'rain' in the background to support the atmosphere of loneliness, uncertainty, in a state of calm, full of lust and anguish in the poetry of Soni Farid Maulana.Key words: Poetry appreciation, against the rain, structural semiotic
