Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Investigation of reductive and donor genotype responses to i·n vivo haploid folding methods and comparison of methods used in haploid seed determination in corn plant
Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Tarla Bitkileri Ana Bilim DalıBu tez çalışması mısır ıslahında kullanılan in vivo haploid katlama yöntemlerine karşı kullanılan materyallerin yanıtlarının irdelenmesi ve haploid tohum ayrımında kullanılan tekniklerin karşılaştırılması amacıyla yürütülmüştür. Çalışmada materyal olarak üç donör (DNR1, DRN4, DNR5) ile iki indirgeyici hat (CIM2GTAIL-P2, RWK-76xRWS) kullanılmıştır. Donör materyaller ve indirgeyici hatlar 2019 yılı Eylül ayında sera şartlarında KH0 tohumların elde edilmesi için yetiştirilmiştir. Serada yapılan tozlama işlemlerinin ardından donörlerden elde edilen tohumlardan haploid ve diploid olanlar göz ile sınıflandırılmıştır. Sınıflanan tohumlar kodlanmış ve sırası karışmayacak şekilde önce masaüstü tarayıcıda resimleri daha sonra da masaüstü NIR (Yakın Kızıl Ötesi) spektroskopi cihazında reflektans verileri toplanmıştır. KH0 tohumlar Zabirova ve diğerleri (1996) ve CIMMYT (Uluslararası Buğday ve Mısır Araştırma Merkezi) tarafından önerilen iki farklı yöntem ile kromozom katlama işlemine tabi tutulmuştur. Bu işlemin ardından fideler yeterli büyüklüğe ulaştığında 2020 yılı Mayıs ayında tarlaya şaşırtılmış ve bitki görünümü ile sap renklenmesi dikkate alınarak bitkilerin sınıflama durumları kayıt altına alınmıştır. Başlangıçta yapılan sınıflamadan elde edilen veriler ile son sınıflama verileri bağımlı değişken olarak kabul edilerek spektral veriler ve görüntü verileri (Mavi, Yeşil, Kırmızı bant) tahminleyici olarak kullanılmış ve sınıflama modelleri oluşturulumuştur. Oluşturulan modellerin sınıflama kapasiteleri gerçek sınıflama sonuçları ile kıyaslanarak değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırma bulgularına göre kullanılan donör ve indirgeyici hatların kromozom katlama yöntemlerine karşı tepkilerinin farklı olduğu görülmüştür. Haploid indirgenme oranları %9,2 ile %16,1 arasında değişim göstermiştir. CIMMYT yönteminde hem fideleme hem tarlaya şaşırtma aşamalarında bitki kayıplarının yüksek olduğu gözlenmiştir. Haploid tohum sınıflama amacıyla kullanılan teknikler bakımından da dikkate değer farklar olduğu belirlenmiştir. Yaygın olarak kullanılan göz ile ayırma yönteminin doğruluk oranı %87 olarak tespit edilir iken tohum görüntülerine ve spektral verileri dayalı oluşturulan modellerin doğruluk oranları sırasıyla %79 ve %83 olarak bulunmuştur. Bu çalışmanın sonuçları hem sepktral tekniklerin hem de görüntü işleme tekniğinin mısır ıslah programlarında in vivo maternal haploid tekniğinde sınıflama aracı olarak kullanılabileceğini ortaya koymuştur.This thesis study has been conducted in order to examine the responses of the materials used against the in vivo haploid folding methods used in maize breeding, and also to compare the techniques used in haploid seed segregation. In this study work, three donors (DNR1, DRN4, DNR5) and two inducers line (CIM2GTAIL-P2, RWK-76xRWS) were used as materials. Donor materials and inducer lines have been grown under greenhouse conditions in September 2019 for the purpose of obtaining DH0 seeds. Haploid and diploid ones from seeds obtained from donors were classified by naked eye after the completion processes of pollination under greenhouse conditions. The classified seeds were coded and firstly, their pictures have been taken with the help of a desktop scanner and then reflectance data were collected on a benchtop NIR (Near Infrared Reflectance) spectroscopy device aim to not be mixed with each other. DH0 seeds have been subjected to chromosome folding using two different proposed methods by Zabirova et al (1997) and CIMMYT (International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center). After this process, when the seedlings reached a sufficient size, they were transplanted into the field in May 2020 and the classification of the plants has been recorded by considering the plant appearance and the colour of stalk. The data obtained from the initial classification and the final classification data were accepted as dependent variables, spectral data and image data (Blue, Green, Red band) were used for prediction and classification models generation. The classification capacities of the models have been evaluated by comparing them with the actual results of classification. According to the findings of current study, it has been observed that the reactions of the donor and used inducer lines were found different against the chromosome doubling methods. Haploid reduction rates shown a variation between 9.2% and 16.1%. In the CIMMYT method, plant losses have been observed high both in seedling as well as transplanting stages. It has also been observed that there were considerable differences in terms of techniques used for haploid seed classification. Accuracy rates of models created based on seed images and spectral data were found to be 79% and 83%, respectively, while the accuracy rate of widely used naked eye-separation method was determined as 87%. The overall results of this study revealed that both of the spectral techniques and image processing technique could be used as classification tools for in vivo maternal haploid technique in maize breeding programs
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
