SARS-CoV-2 was originated from zoonotic coronaviruses and confirmed as a novel beta-coronavirus, which causes serious respiratory illness such as pneumonia and lung failure, COVID-19. In this review, we describe the genetic characteristics of SARS-CoV-2, including types of mutation, and molecular epidemiology, highlighting its key difference from animal coronaviruses. We further summarized the current knowledge on clinical, genetic, and pathological features of several animal coronaviruses and compared them with SARS-CoV-2, as well as recent evidences of interspecies transmission and recombination of animal coronaviruses to provide a better understanding of SARS-CoV-2 infection in One Health perspectives. We also discuss the potential wildlife hosts and zoonotic origin of this emerging virus in detail, that may help mitigate the spread and damages caused by the disease.Y

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Detection of antibodies against hepatitis e virus in pet veterinarians and pet dogs in South Korea

    No full text
Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a zoonotic pathogen commonly considered an important foodborne virus. Pet dogs are important reservoirs of zoonotic agents. In the present study, the seroprevalence of HEV in pet dogs and pet veterinarians were found to be 28.2 and 5.0%, respectively. It remains unclear whether pet veterinarians are at higher risk of HEV transmission. However, pet animals and individuals who have contact with infected animals must be continually monitored for public health concerns.Y

Abstract : This study examines the representation of the female character of the Brazilian bossa nova song Garota de Ipanema by Vinicius de Moraes and Tom Jobim, in their English, German, French and Italian translations. The investigation took into account aspects such as the girl's physical attributes realized through adjectives, nouns and phrases, in addition to aspects of her personality expressed by the verbs related to her. The method of analysis consisted of applying the Transitivity System proposed by M.A.K. Halliday (1985) as a tool to analyze the question of sense in the translations, focusing on the processes performed by verbs whose subject was the girl, and considering the Song Translation criteria suggested by Peter Low (2003): singability, naturalness, rhythm, rhyme and sense. Aesthetic and psychological profiles of the female character were drawn from the translated versions, and compared with the features of the girl in the Brazilian song. The results showed that there were additions and/or omissions of the girl's physical and psychological characteristics, bringing to bear divergences in relation to the transitivity patterns of the female character in the Brazilian song

Surveillance of avian influenza viruses from 2009 to 2013 in South Korea

Avian influenza viruses (AIVs) are carried by wild migratory waterfowl across migratory flyways. To determine the strains of circulating AIVs that may pose a risk to poultry and humans, regular surveillance studies must be performed. Here, we report the surveillance of circulating AIVs in South Korea during the winter seasons of 2009-2013. A total of 126 AIVs were isolated from 7942 fecal samples from wild migratory birds, with a total isolation rate of 1.59%. H1-H7 and H9-H11 hemagglutinin (HA) subtypes, and N1-N3, N5, and N7-N9 neuraminidase (NA) subtypes were successfully isolated, with H6 and N2 as the most predominant HA and NA subtypes, respectively. Sequence identity search showed that the HA and NA genes of the isolates were highly similar to those of low-pathogenicity influenza strains from the East Asian-Australasian flyway. No match was found for the HA genes of high-pathogenicity influenza strains. Thus, the AIV strains circulating in wild migratory birds from 2009 to 2013 in South Korea likely had low pathogenicity. Continuous surveillance studies such as this one must be performed to identify potential precursors of influenza viruses that may threaten animal and human health.Y

Japanese Language Education Using Music “The Song of Permission and Prohibition”

Expressions that indicate permission, request, need, and prohibition are necessary in real-life communication. What can be said in common with these expressions is that they are expressions related to "requests". By associating and learning these expressions, learners would be able to use them properly and smoothly in different situations. In this paper, we will discuss the composition of the lyrics and how to use the quiz using "The Song of Permission and Prohibition". In the first verse of this song, expressions such as asking for permission(~temo-iidesu-ka), necessity(~tewa-ikemasen), negative request(~naide-kudasai) and prohibition(~na) can be learned. In the second verse, leaners can study expressions of asking for tolerance(~nakutemo-iidesu-ka), necessity(~nakutewa-ikemasen), request(~te-kudasai) and prohibition(~na). Learners of Japanese language would be expected to study these Japanese expressions efficiently and happily using this "The Song of Permission and Prohibition".application/pdfdepartmental bulletin pape

To investigate SARS-CoV-2 transmission from humans to animals in Seoul, South Korea, we submitted samples from companion animals owned by persons with confirmed COVID-19. Real-time PCR indicated higher SARS-CoV-2 viral infection rates for dogs and cats than previously reported from the United States and Europe. Host-specific adaptations could introduce mutant SARSCoV-2 to humans.N

When Seve met Bregovi?: folklore, turbofolk and the boundaries of Croatian musical identity

    No full text
Popular music in Croatia has consistently been a field where the boundaries of national cultural identity are set, contested and transgressed. The most contentious boundaries involve Serbian culture and the abstract “east”, to which essentialized nationalist concepts of Croatian culture denied any similarity. The Croatian singer Severina’s attempt to represent Croatia at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest with her song Moja štikla (My stiletto) called these aspects into question with connotations which could be claimed as both Croatian and Serbian. Although the song was justified with reference to the (disputed) authenticity of Croatian folklore, it ultimately suggested that Croatian cultural space could not be separated from that of the other ex-Yugoslav states

Assembly deformation and stresses of compliant structures

Compliant components such as large sheet metal components are commonly used in various products including automotive, aircraft and home appliances. Because of part-to-part variations, deformation and stresses are induced in the assembly process. An approach to the assembly tolerance analysis of compliant structures is presented in this paper. Given component deformation, assembly deformation and stresses are derived by finite element analysis (FEA). The influence of component deformation on assembly deformation and stresses is studied by response surface methodology (RSM), and a regression model is developed. Using the developed regression model, Monte Carlo simulation was conducted to study assembly tolerance and stresses. This approach is illustrated by an example
