Kleinstädte als Forschungsgegenstand: Bestimmungsmerkmale, Bedeutungen und Zugänge
Full text linkKleinstädte sind mehr als nur "klein", und doch ist dieses Merkmal wesentlich zur näheren Bestimmung des Gegenstands. Die Kleinstadt ist einerseits gegenüber größeren und Großstädten abzugrenzen, doch auch von ländlichen Siedlungstypen - insbesondere vom Dorf - zu unterscheiden. Diese Einführung in den Sammelband reflektiert zunächst historisch, statistisch und sprachlich über die Bestimmung und Bedeutung der Kleinstadt bzw. von Kleinstädten. Im zweiten Teil des Beitrags erfolgt eine Erweiterung des Blicks um ausgewählte internationale Perspektiven, und es werden morphologische, administrative und funktionale Bestimmungsansätze aufgezeigt.Small towns are more than just 'small', and yet this characteristic is central to a more precise definition of the research object. The small town must, on the one hand, be distinguished from larger towns and cities but, on the other hand, also from rural types of settlement - particularly from villages. This introduction to the volume opens with a reflection on the historical, statistical and linguistic aspects of the definition and significance of small towns. In the second part of the article a wider view is taken to include selected international perspectives, and morphological, administrative and functional definitional approaches are presented

Full text linkWas wir über Kleinstädte (nicht) wissen, wird in einer Querschnittsbetrachtung dieses Sammelbands resümierend und reflektierend aufgezeigt. Ausgehend von verschiedenen Erzählungen, Perspektiven, Differenzierungen und Dynamiken von Kleinstädten werden soziale, demographische und ökonomische Aspekte erörtert sowie Probleme der Datenverfügbarkeit und Methoden aufgezeigt. Anschließend werden Kleinstädte konzeptionell verortet und Aspekte von räumlicher Planung, Government und Governance sowie von Mobilität und Digitaler Transformation beleuchtet. Mit einem konstruktiv ausblickenden Fazit wird zugleich ein Plädoyer für eine zeitgemäße Kleinstadtforschung formuliert.A review of this volume summarises and reflects upon what we (do not) know about small towns. Based on various narratives, perspectives, differentiations and dynamics concerning small towns, the discussion covers social, demographic and economic aspects and problems concerning data availability and methods. Next, small towns are conceptionally positioned, and aspects of spatial planning, government and governance, mobility and digital transformation are highlighted. A constructive, forwardlooking conclusion also calls for up-to-date research into small towns

Full text linkDie Wirtschaft von Kleinstädten wurde in der Wirtschaftsgeographie bisher nur unzu-reichend untersucht. Dabei haben sich kleinere Städte seit der Jahrtausendwende sehr positiv entwickelt. In Deutschland konnte die Gruppe der Kleinstädte die Anzahl der Arbeitsplätze von 2000 bis 2016 um 14% steigern (BBSR 2018a). Damit befinden sich die Kleinstädte gleichauf mit den Großstädten. Angesichts der positiven Entwick-lung von Kleinstädten muss die Annahme hinterfragt werden, dass städtische Größe automatisch zu wirtschaftlichem Erfolg führt (Camagni/Capello/Caragliu 2014; Frick/Rodríguez-Pose 2017). Nicht nur städtische Größe und somit Agglomerationsvorteile sind entscheidend, sondern andere Faktoren wie wirtschaftliche Struktur, Vernet-zung, Innovation und lokale Strategien
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. sich vor allem auf Großstädte fokussiert haben und kleinere Städte erst in den vergangenen Jahren mehr Aufmerksamkeit erhielten. Seit der Jahrtausendwende entwickelte sich die Gruppe der Kleinstädte in Deutschland hinsichtlich der Beschäftigten sehr
positiv. Grundsätzlich muss die Annahme hinterfragt werden, dass städtische Größe
automatisch zu wirtschaftlichem Erfolg führt. Nicht nur städtische Größe und somit
Agglomerationsvorteile sind entscheidend, sondern auch andere Faktoren wie wirtschaftliche Struktur, Vernetzung, Innovation und lokale Strategien. Ein Fokus auf Innovationsdynamiken, die sich nicht nur im großstädtischen Umfeld entwickeln können,
sondern auch in Kleinstädten entstehen, geht darüber hinaus auf den sogenannten
