No full textNathan Dee Greene of Bryson City shares his memories of picking apples with his family at an orchard on Laurel Branch in the 1930s, and some of the varieties grown in the orchard. He talks about some of the equipment used by the orchard and discusses how his family used and preserved the apples, including drying and making cider, and he indicates that canning apples was not done frequently. He also talks about how his mother bleached apples, which involved packing apples in sulfur for preservation. His wife grafted many trees, and he talks about her work with grafting. His family had a small orchard that produced many kinds of apple throughout the year, and he shares how his mother and wife used those apples and he recounts how the apples that fell off the trees were used to feed pigs. He also talks about how his wife used crabapples and he closes the interview by discussing some of his favorite apples. The interview was part of a project--Heritage Apples--undertaken by the Mountain Heritage Center at Western Carolina University

Newsom was an orderly sergeant in Captain Calvin Shepard's company from Gallia County, Ohio, during the War of 1812. This volume conveys conditions experienced by soldiers during the war, including low pay, shortages of food and clothing, low morale, and severe weather conditions. Newsom also describes the cooperation of the army with friendly Indians and the disciplinary measures taken for desertion and other offenses

He interned with the FAA Office of Commercial Space Transportation during SpaceX’s first licensed flights to the International Space Station; and he interned for the U.S. Congress House Committee on Science, Space, & Technology during markup of the NASA Authorization Act and consideration of updates to the Commercial Space Launch Act. No full textIn a recent paper, Frank Ruskey asked whether every linear recurrent sequence can occur in some solution of a meta-Fibonacci sequence. In this paper, we consider the natural generalization of meta-Fibonacci recurrences to more than two terms. In this context, we show, using an explicit construction, that any sequence satisfying a linear recurrence with positive coefficients occurs as an evenly-spaced subsequence in some generalized meta-Fibonacci sequence.Peer reviewe
