Evolution of hot corrosion resistance of conventional CSZ and MoSi2 self-healing thermal barrier coatings in Na2SO4+V2O5 at 950 °C
ZrO2-based hot corrosion-resistant thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) with MoSi2+Al2O3 have gained increasing attention. In this research, a novel dual-layer TBC (CSZ: ZrO2-25 wt% CeO2-2.5 wt% Y2O3/MAC: MoSi2 + Al2O3 + CSZ) was developed, and its hot corrosion was compared to a single-layer CSZ. The atmospheric plasma spray (APS) process was utilized to apply CSZ/MAC and CSZ TBCs on NiCrAlY, as a bond coat to nickel-based superalloy (IN738LC). Different investigations, including hot corrosion test, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM/EDS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analyses, were used to reveal why the MAC overlayer improves the CSZ hot corrosion behavior. A medium of Na2SO4-55 wt% V2O5 was used to analyze the hot corrosion; a temperature of 950 °C for 2 h was considered in every single cycle. The results exposed that there is a big difference between the hot corrosion resistance of the dual-layer CSZ/MAC TBC in comparison with the single-layer CSZ. Based on the FESEM analysis, this can be related to the very low diffusion of Na2SO4-55 wt% V2O5 into the dual-layer TBC where the infiltration of aggressive molten salt was diminished. According to the XRD results, two reasons are leading to the degradation of the aforementioned TBCs: (i) the tetragonal to the monoclinic transformation of ZrO2 and (ii) the formation of hot corrosion products, i.e., CeVO4 and YVO4 crystals
Bilateral Aplasia of the Frontal, Sphenoid and Maxillary Sinuses and Unilateral Aplasia of the Ethmoid Air Cells
Background: Sporadic cases of sinus aplasia have been reported in the literature, but only a few cases of total aplasia of paranasal sinuses have been recorded. In this report, we aim to present a case of aplasia of all paranasal sinuses except for the right ethmoid sinus which was hypoplastic. Case Report: The patient was a 50-year-old female referred for obtaining Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) prior to dental implant placement. The patient was asymptomatic and did not have any complaints or discomforts associated with the craniofacial structures. CBCT views showed bilateral absence of paranasal sinuses. Only two ethmoid air cells were detected on the right side. Conclusion: This is the first case report for aplasia considering paranasal sinuses except for right ethmoid cells which were hypoplastic in Iranian population
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Designing and fabricating nano-structured and micro-structured radiation shields for protection against CBCT exposure
Researchers have always been interested in finding new and effective materials for protection against radiation. This experimental study aimed to design and fabricate new types of nano-material and micro-material based shields against the ionizing effect of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) X-rays. To fabricate a flexible prototype, we added dioctyl phthalate (DOP) oil to emulsion polyvinyl chloride (PVC) powder. The paste was mixed and dispersed. Then, nano-and micro-powders of WO3 and Bi2O3 were added to the paste, with the weight ratio of 20% PVC, 20% DOP, and 60% nano-and micro-metals. Using an ultrasonic mixer, the polymer matrix and metals were mixed and a paste with a thick texture was developed. The resultant paste was poured into glass molds and the molds were then heated in an oven. After cooling, the resultant sheets were selected for further experiments. A CBCT unit and dosimeter were used to evaluate the characterization and X-ray shielding properties of the fabricated prototypes. The half-value layers (HVL) for nano-WO3, micro-WO3, nano-Bi2O3, and micro-Bi2O3 were 0.0390, 0.0524, 0.0351, and 0.0374 cm, respectively. In addition, the linear attenuation coefficient (μ) for these materials were 17.77, 13.20, 19.71, and 18.5 cm−1, respectively. The findings indicate that nano-structured samples are more effective in the attenuation of X-ray energy. The nano-structured WO3 prototype was nearly 34% more efficient in attenuating radiation compared to the micro-structured WO3 prototype. This difference in nano-and micro-structured Bi2O3 prototypes was 6.5%
Genotoxicity and Micronucleus Formation as a Result of Panoramic Radiography in Epithelial Cells of the Buccal Mucosa: A Cross-sectional Study in Adults
Objectives: To determine the genetic effects of panoramic radiography on the epithelial cells of the buccal mucosa by examining the micronucleus formation in these cells. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, exfoliative cytology samples were prepared from the buccal mucosa of 36 patients immediately before and 10 days after panoramic radiography. The samples were prepared using liquid-based cytology with Papanicolaou staining. The slides were simultaneously evaluated by two expert pathologists and the ratio of the number of cells with micronuclei to the total number of cells on the slide was reported as a percentage. Data analysis was done using paired-samples T test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and covariance analysis (α = 0.05). Results: The study sample consisted of 24 (66.67%) males and 12 females (33.33%) with a mean (SD) age of 27.36 (8.19) years. The frequency of cells with micronucleus before and after panoramic radiography was not statistically different (p = 0.468). Additionally, the frequency of micronucleated cells was not correlated with age (p = 0.737) and sex (p = 0.211). Conclusion: Panoramic exposure slightly increased the frequency of cells with micronucleus in epithelial cells of the buccal mucosa. However, this increase was not statistically significant
Experimental and modeling investigation of the acoustic behavior of sustainable kenaf/yucca composites
The increased awareness of environmental issues has motivated researchers and manufacturers towards the use of natural acoustic absorbers, which are environmentally friendly, sustainable, and relatively cheap. One approach in this direction is to explore the use of waste fibers for potential applications in sound absorption. This study investigates the acoustic behavior of kenaf and yucca waste fiber composites. To this end, yucca and kenaf waste fibers were collected. The separation and extraction of fibers from non-fibrous tissues and woody parts were carried out using the water retting technique. Afterward, yucca and kenaf fibers were blended with a mass ratio of 70:30, 50:50, and 30:70. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was used as the binder to fabricate the composite samples. The acoustic performance of the composites was evaluated using the impedance tube technique. The frequency-dependent absorption behavior of the samples was also investigated using the Delany-Bazley (D-B), Garai-Pompoli (G-P), and Johnson-Champoux-Allard (JCA) models. An in-house developed Matlab code was used for the simulation of the 3D structure of the specimens, and flow resistivity was calculated by simulation of the airflow through the structure. Additionally, tortuosity, viscous, and thermal characteristic lengths were calculated by an inverse technique. It was found that samples of 100% kenaf fibers have the highest flow resistivity values. Flow resistivity decreased with decreasing the kenaf content in the composite samples. It was found that samples of 100% kenaf fibers exhibit promising performance at the low- and mid-frequency bands. A decrease in the amount of kenaf content led to the shift of absorption peak towards the high-frequency region. It was also found that the JCA model closely follows the trend of experimental data for the frequency range of 80–6300 Hz
IN792 DS superalloy: Optimization of EB welding and post-welding heat treatments
Electron beam (EB) welding has been used to realize the seams on 2 mm thick plates of directionally solidified (DS) IN792 superalloy. A grid of the samples has been prepared by varying the pass speed v from 1 to 2.5 m/min, while the other process parameters (power P = 1 kW, acceleration voltage T = 50 kV, beam current I = 20 mA) were kept constant. Experiments were carried out both at room temperature and with pre-heating at 200 °C or 300 °C. Once found the best process conditions (pre-heating at 300 °C; v = 2.5 m/min) the effect of postwelding heat treatments at 700 and 750 °C for increasing time up to 2 hours has been investigated
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
