Flameless Catalytic LPG Combustion and its Optimization Approach
AbstractCatalytic combustion is a highly efficient and modern combustion technique. It incorporates noble metal catalysts to convert the fuel into the products of combustion and provide flameless heat. Flameless heat is appropriate to use in industrial hazardous areas. In this paper catalytic combustion of LPG is carried out with an intension of optimizing the combustion process considering residence time and quantity of excess air as parameters. The optimization was carried out for minimizing amount of unburned fuel. The exhaust gas was analysed using gas chromatograph. The experimentation was designed and optimized using Response Surface Methodology
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. Preparation of Chitosan-Polyvinyl Alcohol Blends and Studies on Thermal and Mechanical Properties
AbstractChitosan is a biopolymer, which is an amino polysaccharide derived from the N-deacetylation of chitin. It is a natural polymer because of the presence of degradable enzyme Chitosan. Chitosan is blended with synthetic polymer PVA with formaldehyde enhances the thermal stability. Thermogravimetric analysis was conducted to measure the weight loss of the above mentioned blend systems at a heating rate 10oCmin-1 in nitrogen atmosphere. It is evident that formaldehyde is acting as a cross linker for Chitosan-PVA blend which have high thermal degradation or high thermal stability when compared with Chitosan-PVA-glycerol and Chitosan-PVA blends. The presence of cross linking agents like formaldehyde decreases the solubility to certain extent, and also increases the thermal stability due to the presence of aldehyde (-CHO-) group in the formaldehyde, forming cross links with amine(-NH2-) group present in the Chitosan. This reaction is based on the Schiff's base mechanism. Various compositions of Chitosan-PVA blends have been studied for its thermal and mechanical properties. The mean tensile strength and percentage elongation of Chitosan-PVA blends decreases with decrease in PVA content. But on addition of glycerol on to the blends of Chitosan-PVA, the percentage elongations increase and mean tensile strength decreases

Chitosan is blend with natural polymer CMC with glycerol and formaldehyde enhance the thermal stability. It is evident, that the weight loss (%) of Chitosan cross-linked with formaldehyde was greater compared with pure Chitosan. Degradation temperature of pure Chitosan is 120°C. Optimum thermal stability was obtained at Chitosan cross linked with 0.2% formaldehyde was at 220°C. Chitosan with excessive amount of cross linking agent results the formation of hydro gel. CMC cross linked with formaldehyde enhance the thermal stability compared with pure CMC. Degradation temperature of pure CMC is 240°C. Optimum thermal stability was obtained at CMC cross linked with 0.4% formaldehyde is at 260°C. Thermo gravimetric analysis was conducted to measure the weight loss of a standard solution of CS/CMC (99/1) and glycerol (2%) with different percentages of formaldehyde. Optimum thermal stability was obtained at a standard solution of CS/CMC blend (99/1) and glycerol (2%) with 0.4% formaldehyde was at 150°C
Control of Electrocoagulation Batch Reactor for Oil removal from Automobile Garage Wastewater
AbstractWastewater from Automobile garages and workshops is an important contributor to the water pollution. Oil is one of the major content of wastewater from vehicle garages. The work focuses on the design of an electrocoagulation (EC) reactor for the removal of oil content in wastewater from Automobile garages with automation and control for efficient operation. The samples for the study were collected from Kerala State Road Transportation(KSRTC) Thrissur depot. Experimental study has been conducted to investigate the influence of various factors affecting electrooagulation. Major factors selected were current density, time of EC, salt concentration and pH on oil removal. The influence of these factors on percentage oil removal was found to be non-linear. Experiments were designed by Response Surface Method(RSM) and a nonlinear empirical relationship between percentage oil removal and input parameters was obtained. Responses were optimized using MINITAB software and these values were used in the control purpose. Control and automation of electrocoagulation process was developed with reaction time in the batch electrocoagulation reactor as the controlling variable. Power supply to the electrodes was also controlled with a level switch. Both inlet and outlet control were proposed for the efficient run of the batch EC reactor
