Introduction to soil science with Jed Soleiman - FarmED podcast
Danielle talks to soil scientist, Jed Soleiman, who is currently working at FarmED as part of the Centre for High Carbon Capture Cropping (CHCx3) Project. Jed is passionate about regenerative agriculture and rewilding, particularly in understanding the responses of soils to these, and other land uses that could help build the physical basis to bring about nature recovery. Focusing mainly on the UK, Jed has previously worked on understanding mycorrhizal responses to rewilding at the Knepp Wildland, and is now working at FarmED under CHCx3 to investigate changes to soil carbon and energetics under arable regenerative agriculture regimes. It is hoped that this knowledge can help contribute to and inform the diverse land-use matrix we need to achieve successful landscape scale conservation in the UK.Jed holds an MA in Geography from the University of Cambridge, an MPhil in Biodiversity, Conservation, and Management from the University of Oxford, and is currently studying for his DPhil (PhD) at the University of Oxford with the Ecosystems Lab and Leverhulme Centre for Nature Recovery. In his spare time, Jed is also a keen gardener, wilder, and forager who loves to share his passions with anyone who’s keen to listen

Effect of Installing Monobars in Stability of Powerhouse Cavern Roof in Masjed - Soleiman Power Plant Extension
Masjed-e-Soleiman Dam and Hydroelectric Power plant (170 high rock fill dam with capacity of 2000 MW) is located about 25 Km. to the north east of Masjed-e-Soleiman (Southwestern Iran) on Karun river. The powerhouse cavern is an underground structure, consisting of eight 250 MW power units (4 units each for phase 1 and extension phase). Overburden of powerhouse is 250-320 meters. The first step of project (that is a Dam with supply 1000 MW electricity), has been completed recently. In order to ensure the stability of roof of the extension p.h. cavern, dywidag brand monobars (15 or 20 m. long) with working load of 624 KN have been used. In this paper, the geological condition , rock support measures and the method statement of opening and sequences of excavation for the extension powerhouse cavern, analysis the impact of installation of monobars on cavern roof stability (on the basis of the instrumentation results) have been discussed briefly
Evaluation of Economic Losses of Dust phenomenon on Agricultural Sector (Case Study: Masjed Soleiman County, Khuzestan Province)
In this regard, the present study evaluates the economic damages of dust phenomenon on the agricultural sector of Masjed Soleiman districts and estimates the willingness to pay people to control this phenomenon. The statistical population of the study is the rural households of Masjed Soleiman city in Khuzestan province. Required data were collected through 400 questionnaires through multi-stage sampling. By determining the total sample number, the sample number of each village was determined by proportional allocation based on the population of the selected villages. Also using the Logit model, factors affecting farmers' willingness to pay for crop protection against dust were estimated using Shazam 9 software and mathematical calculations with Maple 18 software. The results showed that in the study area, the variables of age, number of employees, education and income had a positive and significant effect on the willingness of farmers to pay for crop protection against dust. The total value of the damages against dust was obtained for maintenance of agricultural crops 791448408 tomans per year for Masjed Soleiman districts
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Use of capillary electrophoresis for detection of hemoglobinopathies in individuals referred to health centers in Masjed-Soleiman
Background: Hemoglobinopathies are the commonest single gene disorder in human that affect hemoglobin production and function that occur when mutations alter the amino acid sequence of globin chains. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the prevalence of hemoglobninopathies detected by capillary electrophoresis method in individuals referred to Masjed-Soleiman health centers by capillary electrophoresis method. Methods: This study was carried out on 394 individuals referred to Masjed-Soleiman health centers during 2015-2016. Blood samples were collected in EDTA vacutainer tubes, then CBC including blood indexes (MCV, MCH), level of Hemoglobin A, Hb F, Hb A2 and other hemoglobins were evaluated by Sebia minicap (France) and also genetic tests applied for them to confirm results that were aqcuired by capillary electrophoresis method. Results: 77 (19.5%) subjects had HbA2 ≥3.5%, thus were classified as beta thalassemia carrier and 3.3%, 2.5%, 1.5% and 0.5% of the individuals were heterozygote for Hb S, Hb D, Hb C and Hb Bart, respectively. Results of the genetic analysis showed the mutations in these subjects; cd36-37(-T) was the most frequent mutation in beta thalassemia carriers in this geographic region. Conclusion: This study showed high frequency of beta thalassemia mutations in the geographic region of Masjed-Soleiman (19.5), and 7.85% of the individuals had hemoglobin variants including Hb S, Hb D and Hb C detected by capillary electrophoresis. Capillary electrophoresis could be a considerable method for detection of hemoglobinopathies
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
بههمبافتن سنت و مدرنیته: تار روش سیدحسن تقیزاده و پود تقویم یزدگردی. ("Sewing Tradition and Modernity Together: the Fabric of S. Hasan Taqizadeh’s Method and the Thread of the Yazdegardi Calendar").
