    Semantik merupakan salah satu bidang kajian bahasa yang mengkaji makna dalam kepelbagaian penggunaan medium bahasa. Perbincangan makna ini merangkumi keseluruhan makna yang ingin disampaikan oleh penulis sama ada dihubung kait dengan situasi atau zaman sesuatu karya tersebut dihasilkan. Keterbatasan dalam penghasilan karya pada zaman negara masih terjajah menyebabkan golongan penulis lebih berhati-hati dalam pemilihan kata. Fungsi karya sastera juga sebagai wadah pendorong semangat juang bangsa Melayu pada ketika itu kerana makna yang suatu karya bukan pada dasarnya sahaja tetapi terkandung juga makna sebaliknya. Makna sebaliknya yang cuba disampaikan oleh Usman Awang dalam karyanya akan dibincangkan dalam makalah ini. Penghuraian makna bukan hanya terbatas pada bentuk leksikal tetapi konteks makna, maka puisi Usman Awang sebenarnya bukan sahaja mendukung makna dasar tetapi wujud makna sebaliknya yang cuba disampaikan oleh beliau secara halus.     A bibliometric examination of all the journal articles published in the Malaysian Journal of Library & Information Science from 1996-2000 was carried out. The range of articles published per volume is between 14 and 17; average number of references per article is 22.5; the average length per article is 41.2 pages; 53(69. 74%) of the articles are research oriented, the percentage of multi-authored papers is slightly higher at 52.6% or 40 papers out of a total of 76, Zainab Awang Nga, the most prolific author contributed 12 articles followed by B. K. Sen (10 papers), Tiew Wai Sin (8 papers), C. R. Karisiddappa, Nor Edzan Nasir, V. L. Kalyane, Teh Kang Hai, and B. M. Gupta (3 papers each); 36 (45%) of the authors are geographically affiliated to Malaysia, authors affiliated to library schools were well represented (55.2%), the most productive institution is Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University of Malaya with 26 out of 80 author's affiliation, the most popular subject is Scientific and Professional Publishing, 30 (39.5%) articles contained author's self-citation, while the rate of journal self-citation is found to be 27.6% and most of the articles (67.1 %) contained no formal acknowledgement

    Analysis of Character Conflict in Pak Guru's Novel Awang Surya's work. Literary work as an imaginary, fiction that offers various problems of man and humanity, life and life. One form of work literature is a novel. Like other literary works, in novels there are conflicts too or problems that are often raised by the author to represent the idea exist in everyday life, with the above facts, the author is interested in conducted a study entitled "Analysis of Character Conflict in Pak Guru's Novel" Awang Surya's work". Research problems (1) How is the conflict of characters in the novel? Mr. Guru by Awang Surya? (2) How does the author express the conflict of characters in the novel Pak Guru by Awang Surya? This research uses qualitative approach with the type of library research and using the method descriptive. Data collection techniques through hermenuetic techniques. In analyzing the data refers to various relevant theories, namely using the Theory of Assessment Nurgiyantoro's (2009) fiction about character conflict and the theory of literary criticism development Indonesia Sukada (1993) on how the author presents character conflicts. Results The study concluded that the conflicts contained in the novel Pak Guru by Awang Surya is (1) internal conflict and external conflict. Internal conflict is a conflict that occurs in the heart, soul of a character or temporary story characters External conflict is a conflict that occurs between a character and something else outside himself, perhaps with the natural environment or perhaps the human environment. The internal conflict was experienced by the characters of Musa and Nasimah while the external conflict happened to the figure of Musa and the teachers of SDN, Musa and Mr. Sarkowi, Musa with Alfan, Musa with Bu Eni, Musa with Nasimah. (2) Author's way Presenting character conflicts analytically and dramatically. Analytics is the way The author describes the conflict of the characters in the story directly explaining the name characters and physical images while dramatic is in an indirect way, namely through conversations or dialogues described by characters when facing problem. The dominant character conflict expressed by the author is the character conflict analytically, because the author describes the story more provide direct explanations without dialogue. Then the author's way revealing character conflicts dramatically illustrated by dialogue directly between the characters contained in the novel Pak Guru by Awang Surya

The data source used is the novel Pak Guru by Awang Surya consisting of 48 chapters and 328 pages. Data collection techniques through hermenuetic techniques, namely read, note and summarize. In analyzing the data, it refers to various relevant theories, namely using the theory of Nurgiyantoro (2009 and 2013) about character conflict and using the theory of Sukada (1993) about how the author expresses character conflict. The results of the study concluded that the conflicts contained in the novel Pak Guru by Awang Surya were (1) internal conflict and external conflict. The internal conflicts experienced by the figures of Musa and Nasimah, the external conflicts occurred with the figures of Musa and SDN teachers, Musa and Pak Sarkowi, Musa with Alfan, Musa with Bu Eni, Musa with Nasimah.     The background of the writer is the literary work is someone's imaginative essay in expressing his thoughts through both oral and written, and the novel is wrong a literary work that tries to express the reality of life in society. The problem raised in this study is how are the Values ​​of Education in the novel Pak Guru Karya Awang Surya. This research was conducted with the aim to describe, analyze, and interpret in detail the data was obtained. The theory used in this research is, Law. Hamidy (1993), Burhanuddin Salam (2000), K. Bertens (2004), Abuddin Nata (2005), and Mohammad Daud Ali (2008). The data source in this study is the entire contents of the novel, and the authors limit research data sources that have elements of educational value as many as 3 kinds. This study uses a qualitative approach to the type of library research (Library Research) and the method used is descriptive method. In order to collecting data in this study the authors collected data through novels contained in the Pak Guru novel by Awang Surya published by Ersa publishers Jakarta in 2014. The novel contains 48 chapters. The results of the study are in the novel Pak Awang Surya's teachers have good educational values ​​related to (1) grades Islamic education includes: Aqeedah there are 5 quotations, Worship there are 8 quotations, and Muamalah there are 3 quotes. (2) Moral education values ​​include: There is a conscience 3 citations, There are 3 citations for responsibilities, and Liabilities for 4 citations. (3) value Cultural education includes: Trust there is 1 quote. There are 1 habits quote, and Customs there is 1 quote Istiadat.     Insect repellent properties of Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree) in Perlis

    Access is limited to UniMAP community.Today, pest problem becomes more serious and it is one of the disaster to farmer in which farming is their way to get many for live. Therefore, a research have been done in which use of plant-based insect repellent. This type of insect repellent is more environmental friendly compared to the use insect repellent based on chemical substances where can give harmful to the environment and human health. In this research, the plant that have been used is tea tree or its scientific name is M. alternifolia. This species is originally from Australia. Essential oil from this plant is extracted by steam distillation method. Based on the previous research, tea tree oil have anti-microbe, anti-fungal, antiinflammatory and insecticide repellent properties. Some experiment have been done on tea tree oil to determine there is insect repellent properties. Other than that, it is important to determine the suitable concentration that can be used to make sure it repel effect is in optimum condition. The purpose of this determination is to avoid harmful effect to the human because it can be toxic if it is use in high concentration or high doses. From the experimental result, the result shows that the tea tree oil have repel against T. castaneum. Furthermore, the toxicity assays also give positive result where the tea tree oil have toxicity properties against S. invicta. The lethal dose of tea tree oil to kill 50% of group of S. invicta is 23.52μl/ml. This LD50 is determined by using arithmetic method of Karber. Roughly, the results shows that M. alternifolia obtained insect repellent properties and toxicity against certain insect

    Effect of drying methods towards antioxidant properties of Pandanus amaryllifolius tea

    Access is limited to UniMAP community.Drying is the common way to preserve the quality of aromatic and bioactive compounds in medicinal plants. The goal of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity, phenolic content, chlorophyll content and phytochemical of different types of drying methods and to propose the best method to produce a good tea. The leaves were dried by using two types of drying methods which are microwave drying and oven drying at the conditions 35 °C for 48 h and 540 W for 4 minutes. Total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant activity were determined using Folin Ciacalteu (FC) and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) methods respectively. Meanwhile, total chlorophyll content (TCC) and Phytochemicals were determined using acetone extraction and phytochemical screening methods respectively. TPC was higher in microwave drying (0.623 mg/GAE) and oven drying (0.417 mg/GAE). In addition, antioxidant activity was higher in IC50 values for microwave drying (6.379 g/GAE g/mL) compared to oven drying (9.339 g/GAE g/mL) respectively. Furthermore, it was observed that TCC in microwave dried leaves was highest (9.540 mg/g) compared with oven dried leaves (9.204 mg/g). Moreover, bioactive compounds of Pandanus amaryllifolius were determined by phytochemical screening test and results indicate the positive results there which are presence of phenolics, saponins, terpenoids and flavonoids

    Antibacterial And Wound Healing Properties Of Curcuma Longa

However, the healing process of wound could be delayed in the presence of antimicrobial infections. Therefore, clinicians use many methods to prevent the wound infection including the use of synthetic drugs such as antibiotic and antiseptic agent. Traditional use of C. longa has mentioned its ability in wound treatment. This research was conducted to study the antimicrobial and wound healing properties of C. longa rhizomes. The extract of C. longa rhizome was prepared by using maceration method. Phytochemical test was conducted to identify the bioactive compound that exists in C. longa such as alkaloid, saponin, tannin and many more. The antibacterial properties of C. longa was studied by using disc diffusion method. The methanolic extract of the plant rhizome was tested against three types of bacteria which are Bacillus cereus, Streptococcus phyogens and Salmonella. Different concentration of extract which were 50, 100 and 200 mg/ml was used to identify the minimum inhibitory zone of the bacteria. Then, the wound healing abilities of C. longa was studied by using excision wound healing model. Excision wound healing model was conducted towards mice. The area of wound contraction was measured day by day until the wound heals completely. The tested result was compared with untreated sample to observe its effectivity to heal wound

    Aantibacteria and wound healing activities of Elephantopus scaber plant

The new pharmaceuticals development from the plants based drug has gained a great attention in worldwide. These phenomena happened after people realized that wound could become the major cause of physical disabilities. The process of wound healing could be delayed if there is microbial infection. Despite to these problems, this study was specifically highlight the ability of Elephantopus scaber in enhancing the healing process of wound. The plant undergo antibacterial test by using disk diffusion method. The leaves and roots extract of this plant were tested against two types of bacteria which are Bacillus cereus and Streptococcus pyogens. The wound healing abilities of E. scaber was studied by using excision model testing on Albino mice. The presence of secondary metabolites was identified by conducting phytochemical analysis. Results show that methanolic extract of leaves part showed high area of inhibiton zone at 200 mg/ml concentration of crude extract in both bacteria B. cereus and S. pyogens which are 15 mm and 11 mm, respectively. The result of wound closure for both extracts were compared to control and found significant with the p-value was 0.0058. The analysis of phytochemical denoted that cardiac glycoside, flavonoid, steroid and terpenoid were present in both leaves and roots powder of E. scaber

    Total Phenolics content and anti-oxidant potential of Ficus Deltoidea using green and non-green solvents

    Access is limited to UniMAP community.Solvents play an important role in chemical or pharmaceutical industry. The usage of non-green solvent may cause detrimental effects to human safety and health. Therefore, green solvents are encouraged to be utilized because they are environmental friendly and easily acquired during the agricultural crops processing. For the present study, green and non-green solvents are used in the extraction of Ficus deltoidea’s leaves. The green solvent used was water whereas non-green solvents used were ethanol and methanol. The extracts were then investigated through total phenolics content (TPC) and antioxidant activity. Folin-Ciocalteu method was used in measuring the presence and amount of phenolic content in each of the sample. The results showed that aqueous extract had the highest TPC (368.42 ± 6.37 mg/g) and followed by methanolic (295.03 ± 16.65 mg/g) and ethanolic (263.45 ± 5.28 mg/g) extracts. Furthermore, 2,2- diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay is used in determining the antioxidant activity of the extracts. The lowest IC50 value based on the graph of percentage inhibition against concentration of sample was shown by ethanolic extract (16.5 μg/ml), followed by methanolic extract (22.0 μg/ml) and aqueous extract (23.5 μg/ml). For the three samples, the correlations between TPC and IC50 were negative and weak. Hence, the antioxidant activity of an extract cannot be predicted based on its total phenolics content. The present study had shown that F. deltoidea is considerably has the potential as sources of natural antioxidants
