Ricerche archeologiche sulla Murgia materana. Il complesso rupestre di San Falcione
The research on the rupestrian site of S. Falcione, located on the plateau in front of the ravine that separates the Historical Archaeological Park of the Rupestrian Churches and the Murgia Materana from the city of Matera, started in 2014 within the framework of the Project Applications of new survey technologies in archaeology (GIS, 3D photomodelling, Archaeometry). Case studies of urban and rural rocky sites and fortified sites in southern Italy (Basilicata) and central France (Murol, Auvergne), funded by the Galileo Programme 2013-2014 of the Italian-French University and directed by the writer in partnership with the Université Rennes2 (D. Allios). The work carried out within the project is also an integral part of the archaeological analysis on the transformations of the settlement structure of the urban centre of Matera and its territory between antiquity and the Middle Ages, aimed at drawing up the map of the archaeological potential of the city, a project shared with the Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio of Basilicata and the Municipality of Matera (COLUCCI et al. 2008; SOGLIANI 2010; 2015; 2017). The preliminary results of these studies are now part of a larger research project called CHORA-Laboratori di Archeologia in Basilicata, directed by the Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni Archeologici di Matera, in partnership with the École Pratique des Hautes Études di Parigi (S. Verger) and the Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata (M. Fabbri). Fabbri), and specifically for the rupestrian settlements, the Digital Atlas of Rupestrian Heritage of Matera (DARHE) is being finalised, through the overall 3D documentation of churches, monastic settlements, quarries, service structures, cisterns, dwellings and with some experiments in virtual reality.Le ricerche sul complesso rupestre di S. Falcione, ubicato sul pianoro antistante la gravina che separa il Parco storico archeologico delle chiese rupestri e della Murgia materana dalla città di Matera, sono iniziate nel 2014 nell’ambito del Progetto Applicazioni di nuove tecnologie di indagine in archeologia (GIS, fotomodellazione 3D, Archeometria). Casi di studio relativi a siti rupestri urbani e rurali e siti fortificati in Italia meridionale (Basilicata) e nella Francia centrale (Murol, Auvergne), finanziato dal Programma Galileo 2013-2014 dell’Università italo-francese e diretto da chi scrive in partenariato con l’Université Rennes2 (D. Allios). Il lavoro condotto nell’ambito del Progetto costituisce inoltre parte integrante dell’analisi archeologica relativa alle trasformazioni dell’assetto insediativo del centro urbano di Matera e del suo territorio tra antichità e medioevo, finalizzata alla redazione della carta del potenziale archeologico della città, progetto condiviso con la Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio della Basilicata, con il Comune di Matera (COLUCCI et al. 2008; SOGLIANI 2010; 2015; 2017). I risultati preliminari di questi studi sono attualmente confluiti in un più vasto progetto di ricerca denominato CHORA-Laboratori di Archeologia in Basilicata, diretto dalla Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni Archeologici di Matera, in partenariato con l’École Pratique des Hautes Études di Parigi (S. Verger) e l’Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata (M. Climate, Geoarchaeological and Bioarchaeological practices, Landscape Archaeology. Data to evaluate the use and the transformation of a monastic site (Jure Vetere, Italy).
This work is a multidisciplinary research project started on the archaeological site of Jure Vetere (Calabria region, southern Italy). The excavation area is located on Sila Grande mountain (1100 m a.s.l.), 5 km west of San Giovanni in Fiore, where between the end of the XII century and the first decades of the XIII century a monastic settlement rose. The archaeological research, carried out by IBAM-CNR on the site, made evident a huge ecclesiastical building that features two different phases. What should be pointed out is that, thanks to the multi-disciplinary approach applied to a “Landscape Archaeology” research, important information was collected due to the study of archaeological finds, written sources, ethnoarchaeological data, photo-interpretations, geological and geopedological research, pollen, botanic and archaeometric analysis. The processed data helps us recognize the main areas where the materials came from, and the analysis carried out on the GIS enables us to understand the dislocation of the different types of soil that could be exploited around the site, during the medieval period. The palynological study, from layers deposited in phases which preceded or were coeval to the life time of the monastery, provided the basis for the reconstruction of the ancient plant landscape of the site where the monastery was founded, and supplied the knowledge of the exploitation of plant resources by monks in the short period of occupancy of the site. Burned pollen grains and microcharcoal, frequently observed in the slides, allowed us to add the information about fires, to this environmental reconstruction. These were clearly represented in the samples by the monastery, but became more dramatically evident in the phase of the monastery occupation mainly reflecting the fire which destroyed the first building in 1214. Particular attention has been directed to the analysis of pedological horizons, burying the medieval building and its immediate neighbouring land, in order to evaluate its main characters and define the pedogenetic and geomorphic processes coeval of the soil formation, which still less define the agrarian applications which assure subsistence to the religious community. The study integrated with climate data has permitted us to correlate the history of this settlement with the different evolutive phases of the landscape, closely connected to the local and global climatic conditions coeval of the monastic settlement. Climatic inferences, by comparison with literature, were mainly suggested by pollen of Olea, Fagus and Abies. Within the Medieval Climatic Optimum, the period of life of the monks at Jure Vetere, should have occurred at the onset of a wetter and colder climatic deterioration

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
