NIV. There is beauty in vision. The nerves connect to the brain from the eye which operates as a
lens. It is a system of miniscule parts that build up into one big system. A system that gives
living organisms the means to see God’s creation. It is truly a work of art. Cameras have
replicated this process for over a century. Photographers aim to capture life in many different
forms because everyone is, in some way, astounded by life and the world around us. In this age
of social media, the beauty of life is as much readily available as the ugliness of carnal nature.
This is my “why”. My passion for my craft stems from my passion and love for Christ. I want to
honor His gift to me by sharing it with others through a career as a photographer. The study of
photojournalism has aided in the realization of photography as a visual story as well as an art
form. After four years of high school and four years of college, Lucky 4 Photography, LLC is the
culmination of all the blood, sweat, and tears that I have put forth into my education. From
registering my business through the INBiz website to booking clients and creating content, this is

Invisible victims: a photographic exploration of capitalism's negative effects on the lives of individuals
No full textThe current economic system of the United States, capitalism, has been a point of contention in recent years. Through examining research done by Anna Zeira in “Mental Health Challenges Related to Neoliberal Capitalism in the United States,” “Neoliberal Meritocracy and Financial Capitalism: Consequences for Social Protection and Health” by Ana Luiza d’Ávila Viana and Hudson Pacifico da Silva, and “Neoliberalism and the Commodification of Mental Health,” one can draw several conclusions that indicate an overall negative effect from the current state of late-stage capitalism in the United States. An analysis of this preliminary research assisted in my creative pursuit to tell the stories of individuals who have been negatively affected by the current system. An examination of Ross Taylor’s “Bent Not Broken” photographic project was a point of inspiration as well. I present photographs of different individuals along with their stories on how capitalism has negatively impacted them with the hopes that change and reform can one day be brought about to improve the lives of individuals living in the United States of America.Thesis (B.?)Honors Colleg
Healing ourselves through one another

I have always felt a little misplaced in the honors college. I’m not a microbiologist or an
architect. I’m not a mathematician or an engineer. I take photos. As a photojournalism major,
there didn’t seem to be too many students like me in most of my classes. That’s why I needed
this thesis to demonstrate the journalistic student body. This piece is meant to be looked at as if it
were published in a magazine. I created a 12-page spread that not only tells a written story, but
gives new, smaller stories through design and photography. I wanted to take the amount of
information I gathered from my source and not just type it in a paper, but present it in a way that
creatively tells where I have grown these past four years. I want to continue on as a freelance
photojournalist who hopefully will have spreads that look just like this in real publications. My
feature photo story spread will hopefully show others in my major in the honors college how

Paving the way for solar : a video story of two individuals a part of the Solarize East Central Indiana movement
No full textThe state of the earth's climate has been debated heavily on social, political and economic levels
for years. The shift into renewable energy has been a widespread movement across the country
and around the world as advancements in technology have increased. Sustainability has become
a priority on a local and national scale as more people are taking a look into how to combat
climate change. For my thesis, I decided to look into ways Muncie is sustainable, which led me
to my video project on Carolyn and John Vann, two Muncie residents who have a lot of
knowledge on various subjects and a passion for greenness. This video project combines photos
and video narrating the Vann's involvement and experiences with the Solarize East Central
Indiana Movement, a movement that encourages home owners in the region, including Muncie,
to go solar. Their time spent volunteering to give presentations on the benefits of renewable
energy and advocating for going solar has inspired more than 30 homeowners to go solar, while
they themselves also adopted solar panels for their home in the process. They have educated
many in their quest to encourage people to do their part to make this world a better place.Thesis (B.?)Honors Colleg
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Get PDFWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
