    Eleanor Smith shares her experience as a Navy nurse during World War II. Smith explains her motivation to enlist and how it wasn't a hard decision because everyone was doing it. She describes the organization of the hospital, her place among the nurses, and her duties. Smith talks about her time in New York and how starstruck she was, having grown up in a small town. She illustrates all of the different uniforms they wore in the service, claiming that the dress uniform was the best outfit she had ever had. Smith discusses her experience as a woman in the military at that time, recalling how she hadn't encountered any stereotyping because of how necessary women were to the war effort. Smith summarizes by stating she would serve again given the chance and that she is happy for the increased opportunities for women in the military. Smith is interviewed by Ilana Bruton
