Sadržaj knjižnice kazuje nam visoku i klasičnu kulturu vlasnika, a ujedno nam ponešto govori i o vremenima u kojima je nastajala. The library of the Slade-Šilović family has its origin in the inheritance of books through the gentry and civic relationships of Dragazzo, Skakoc, Lubin, and Andrić families in blood relations with the Slade-Šilović family. The library covers varied book items with rare specimen of incunabula, and the books printed between the 16th and 21st centuries. It contains almost all the books about Trogir, from the City Statute in 1480, books on blessed Ivan Trogirski, works of Antonio Lubin, Ivan Katalinić, Ivan Lucić, and Pavle Anderis to the works of writers of the 19th century. And besides, there are books of clerical subjects, liturgical notes, books of theology, mathemtics, pharmacy, botany, zoology, medecine, philosophy, history, literature, etc. The archives kept within the library premises contain the material on Dragazzo, Andreis, Slade, Lubin and other noble and civic families of Trogir and provide inexhaustible source of information on the history of Trogir and Dalmatia. Further on there are the manuscripts suc as the Geneaology and Heraldry of Trogir notary Jerolim Bufalis. Also worth mentioning is the collection of publications, hemeroteque, and detached and unique documents relating to Trogir and Dalmatia. The library contents indicate high and classical culture of the owner and give at the same time a sort of chronicle at the time of its genesis. The archives kept in this library, art collection (made of pictures, graphics, oils, tempera on wood, etchings, and aquarelles dating back from the 15th to 20th centuries, pieces of furniture and artefacts for the interior of the house) and the library form together the Slade-Šilović family collection that is truly unique to Trogir. The Slade-Šilović Trogir collection seems one of the rarest private collections in Dalmatia and thus represents a valuable record, not only locally but also nationwide, all the more so because most of Dalmatian collections have gone to waste over the past decades owing to splitting, impoverishment, and inadequate protection. The Slade-Šilović family members have managed to maintain the whole inventory of contents compiled through history, collected over several centuries, so that it represents as a whole and by individual items a rarity of immense significance and wealth for Trogir as municipality and diocese in Dalmatia

Evaluating the integration of genomics into cancer screening programmes: challenges and opportunities

    No full text
Purpose of Review: As the costs of genomic testing have fallen, and our understanding of genetic susceptibility to cancers has grown, there has been increasing interest in incorporating testing for cancer susceptibility genes, and polygenic risk estimates, into population cancer screening. A growing body of evidence suggests that this would be both clinically and cost-effective. In this article, we aim to explore the frameworks used to evaluate screening programmes, evaluate whether population screening for cancer susceptibility can be assessed using these standards, and consider additional issues and outcomes of importance in this context.Recent Findings: There are tensions between traditional approaches of genetic testing (utilising tests with high sensitivity and specificity) and the principles of population screening (in which the screening test typically has low specificity), as well as the frameworks used to evaluate the two. Despite the existence of many screening guidelines, including consensus papers, these often do not align fully with broader considerations of genetic test evaluation. Population screening for genetic risk in cancer shifts the focus from diagnostics to prognostication and has wider implications for personal and familial health than existing screening programmes. In addition, understanding of the prevalence and penetrance of cancer susceptibility genes, required by many screening guidelines, may only be obtainable through population-level testing; prospective multi-disciplinary research alongside implementation will be essential.Summary: Appropriate evaluation of genetic screening for cancer risk will require modification of existing screening frameworks to incorporate additional complexity of outcomes and population values. As evidence supporting population screening for cancer susceptibility mounts, development of an appropriate evaluative framework, and expansion of public dialogue will be key to informing policy

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Is There a Regional Variability Within Clovis Fluted Points in North America Influenced by Raw Material Selection?: An Analysis of Basal Concavity Shape

At some time around the end of the last ice age, around 11,500 P14PC yr BP / 13,300 Cal yrs BP, the first human hunter-gatherer groups entered North America where they encountered diverse environments and climates. These groups once separate and exploring these landscapes in a vast continent were hunting and killing the same megafauna; perhaps for the first time, they would have encountered mammoth, mastodon, gomphothere, giant sloth and camel etc. Other smaller, more recognisable species were also present and hunted; elk, deer and caribou and bison for example. Clovis fluted points were long regarded as the hallmark of the first humans to occupy the Americas. The different environments and landscapes encountered by these separate groups may account for the extent of the variability of these points that are so characteristic of this period. In this thesis research I suggest that Clovis was not the first stone tool technology in North America and that fluted points evolved from an earlier technology, and that Clovis was a localised fluted form that evolved regionally as these first groups spread out across the continent. In a previous study I asked the question "what is Clovis", perhaps after the present study "what is not Clovis" may be more appropriate
