Xanthelasma palpebrarum – a brief review
Pragya A Nair, Rochit Singhal Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy, Pramukhswami Medical College, Gujarat, India Abstract: Xanthelasma palpebrarum is the most common cutaneous xanthoma, characterized by yellowish plaques over eyelids – most commonly, over the inner canthus of the upper lid. It is triggered by hyperlipidemia, thyroid dysfunction, and diabetes mellitus. Xanthelasma results from perivascular infiltration of mono- and multinucleated foam cells within lipid-laden cytoplasmic vacuoles in the superficial reticular dermis. Different modalities of treatment, such as simple surgical excision, cryotherapy, chemical peeling with trichloroacetic acid, radiofrequency, and laser, are used in the treatment of xanthelasma palpebrarum. Efficacy of herbomineral compounds and pathya (Ayurvedic dietary regime and physical exercise) in the management of Yakṛt Roga (Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease)
Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) also called as hepatic steatosis is a manifestation of excessive triglyceride accumulation in the liver. NAFLD has been described by histological features ranging from simple fatty liver, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, progressive fibrosis, and liver failure.
Objective: The objective was to evaluate the effect of herbomineral drugs and pathya0 (Ayurvedic dietary regime and physical exercise) in the management of NAFLD.
Materials and Methods: It is a randomized, retrospective, open-ended study. A total of 32 patients presenting with raised alanine transaminase (>1.5 times normal levels) combined with sonological evidence of fatty liver in the absence of any other detectable cause of liver disease were included in the study. The recruited patients were randomly divided into two groups - The patients in Group-A (n = 21) were given a combination of herbomineral drugs Ārogyavardhinī vaṭi and Triphalā Guggulu along with prescription of pathya (Ayurvedic dietary regime and physical exercise); the patients in Group-B ( n = 11) were advised only pathya.
Results: Group-A (combined therapy group) showed statistically significant improvement in clinical symptoms, biochemical parameters-liver function test, lipid profile, fasting blood sugar, and body mass index (P < 0.001) in comparison to Group-B (pathya group).
Conclusion: Combination of herbomineral drugs along with pathya has shown promising results toward the effective management of this metabolic disorder
A Comparative clinical study to evaluate the effect of Indigenous compound drugs (Shatavari mandoor and Pippali ghrita) in Parinama Shoola Vis-Ã -vis Acid Peptic Disorders
Background: : Acid peptic disease is the condition in which there is either excessive secretion of acid and pepsin or a weakened stomach mucosal defence, which is responsible for damage to the delicate mucosa and the lining of the stomach, oesophagus and duodenum resulting in ulceration.Parinama shoola in Ayurveda is comparable with Acid peptic disease.Aim of study: The Aim of the study is to evaluate and compare the effect of indigenous compound drugs (Shatavari mandoor and Pippali ghrita) in uncomplicated cases of Parinam shoola.Methods:Â This is a prospective, open labelled, randomised clinical trial. A total of 31 patients suggestive of features of Parinama Shoola (acid peptic disorder) were enrolled and were randomly divided in two groups- 12 patients were enrolled in group A and were given trial drug Shatavari mandoor,19 patients were enrolled in group B and were given trial drug Pippali ghrita. Duration of study was 3 months.Results: Individually both groups showed statistically significant improvement in clinical symptoms i.e. pain in abdomen, epigastric burning, nausea, flatulence, loss of appetite and constipation (p<0.01), but the mean reduction in the symptoms of group A (Shatavari mandoor group) is more than group B (Pippali ghrita group).Conclusion: Both trial drugs are effective in the treatment of Parinama shoola. Shatavari mandoor is more effective in the treatment of Parinam shoola in comparison to Pippali ghrita.Â
Validation of a thermo-mechanical FE model of Onshore wind turbine foundation
The growing demand for renewable energy sources has led to the deployment of wind turbines worldwide. One of the most critical parts of the wind turbine is the foundation which plays an important role in maintaining the structural integrity and reliability of the towers throughout the service life. This research project is a case study that focuses on validating the numerical model against the experimental values from an operational onshore wind turbine foundation present at Riemst, Belgium while considering the effect of hydration heat during the concrete curing process. The main aim of this research is to study and compare the behavior of the steel stresses in the on-site foundation with that of the numerical analysis and to see whether an adequate match can be obtained. The study begins with the development of a three-dimensional symmetrical finite element model that captures its intricate geometrical and material properties. The structure’s behavior is simulated under realistic loading conditions to assess its structural performance and identify potential areas of concern. To validate the accuracy of numerical analysis, experimental data obtained from fiber optic sensors are used. After converting the measured strains into stresses, they are carefully compared with the finite element analysis results to identify any variations and fine-tune the model. The validation of the FE model is performed using a 2D plate model in SCIA engineering. The research investigates the effects of hydration heat along with the structural analysis in FEA on the stresses experienced by the steel elements in the mass structure. This further extends to the effects of bedding and inclined piles combined with the thermo-mechanical analysis where properties such as stiffness are varied in the simulations to study their influence on the structural response. It is imperative to note that utilizing the FE model with solely non-linear structural analysis can lead to a significant overestimation of the expected field results, up to a whopping 87 times. To mitigate this issue, the variant with thermo-mechanical analysis is implemented, reducing this estimation to a maximum factor of 58 compared to the field data. It is crucial to achieve a satisfactory level of the project through iterative modifications. Implementing soil bedding on all sides in the thermo-mechanical model is one such step to effectively reduce steel stress to an acceptable level. The model showed steel stresses that are approximately 26 times higher than the actual experimental values. Along with reducing the steel stresses, the crack widths have decreased considerably from 3.4mm to 2.35mm. Hence, the effective way to perform the numerical simulation is to consider thermal-mechanical coupling along with minimizing assumptions and ensuring sufficient stiffness to the structure for reliable assessments of steel stresses and structural integrity of onshore wind turbine foundations. The findings contribute valuable insights into the foundation’s structural behavior under varying operational conditions, highlighting areas of strength and potential advancement. Moreover, the outcomes from this investigation can assist engineers and designers in making informed decisions during the planning and construction phases of wind turbine foundations, leading to more cost-effective and robust structures. Circular Facade Systems: For Sustainable Building Renovations
The building industry accounts for almost 40% of the total carbon emissions that are directly responsible for climate change. So far, we have been following a linear economy model which follows a concept of “take-make-use-dispose” and causes a significantly large burden on the natural environment. For this reason, transition to a circular economy is important in order to keep the resources in the economy for as long as possible, and thus reduce this burden. With a rising building stock reaching its end of life, the number of renovations in the coming years will increase significantly. They are expected to reach 35 million in 2030. The main focus of these renovations will be to make buildings energy efficient. While we have been successful in reducing the operational carbon of buildings, there is still scope to reduce the embodied carbon. This is also the main motivator for circularity goals.It is estimated that the façade may account for between 13 and 17% of the total embodied carbon associated with a building. There is however not a strategic process to designing a circular facade. The methodology followed is the research-through-design methodology.This project develops a design framework through studying existing literature, taking into account existing examples and pilot research projects - Circl Pavilion, CRL. The process uses the 10R strategy - particularly the cases of Reclaim, Recycle, Reuse, Reduce. This is then applied to the case of Building 22 at the TU Delft campus, and 4 options are developed. The evaluation through a life cycle assessment and building circularity approach is conducted on the platform OneClickLCA. It was found that for a circular design, material selection is very important. Overall materials with a lower embodied carbon should be selected. Moreover, materials with a higher volume of reused content should be prioritized first and a higher volume of bio-based content should be prioritized second. Computer can check all the possibilities of keys, a Crypto-system have in minutes or hours of time which depends on the speed of the computer and computation power. Computer applies keys to a cipher text and then checks the string matching with a dictionary. There are many techniques which are being used to increase the key space and secrecy of the Crypto-system but still the computer can find the solution by applying all possible combinations. Reverse String Cipher is a modification in all cipher techniques to increase the security.</p>

Association of metabolic syndrome with psoriasis: a hospital based cross-sectional study
Background: Psoriasis is associated with significant morbidity which may have a significant impact on the quality of life of patients even if a relatively limited body surface area is involved.Aims: The present study was aimed to assess the association of psoriasis and metabolic syndrome and to evaluate the disease activity and duration in psoriatic patients with and without metabolic syndrome.Materials and Method: 85 psoriasis subjects without prior systemic treatment for 1 month were included. A complete lipid profile with fasting blood glucose levels, blood pressure, and central obesity were assessed and the results were formulated. Results: 33 out of 85 patients had metabolic syndrome. Impaired HDL levels and fasting triglyceride of metabolic syndrome seen in 60% and 55.2% respectively. Metabolic syndrome and the extent of body surface area involved by psoriasis were directly associated. Patients with psoriasis of more than 72 months had more metabolic syndrome (37.84%). There was no significant correlation between PASI score and metabolic syndrome. Conclusion:The present study concludes that there exists an association between psoriasis and metabolic syndrome. This has important implications in dermatology to prevent associated serious complications
EMOTIONAL MANIPULATION WITH THE HELP OF EMOTIONAL RECOGNITION-A SURVEY
<p>It is a rule written by government that robots can kill others to save their kinds. So, a robot should know how to decide who is its enemy and who is its friend. It should feel the emotion of love or hate. We can use search technique to find an answer to this but it will result in nothing and will not give emotions. Another way can be the use of knowledge base which will give us as well as robots a brief knowledge to love or hate someone. We can put some pre memories and store them in the robots. These memories consist of different tasks and whether the task is good one or the bad one. If a human helps them then it is a positive task and if human’s act is bad then it’s a negative task. Words software should also be used to check whether words are positive or negative. There are various techniques for emotion recognition which we will discuss in this paper.</p>
