MABS validation through repeated execution and data mining analysis

Agent Based Modelling is the most interesting and advanced approach for simulating a complex system: in a social context, the single parts and the whole are often very hard to describe in detail. Besides, there are agent based formalisms which allow to study the emergency of social behaviour with the creation and study of models, known as artificial societies. Thanks to the ever increasing computational power, it's been possible to use such models to create software, based on intelligent agents, which aggregate behaviour is complex and difficult to predict, and can be used in open and distributed systems. Data mining is born in the last decades in order to help users in finding useful knowledge from the otherwise overwhelming amount of data available nowadays from the web and the data collected every day by companies. Data Mining techniques can therefore be the keystone to reveal non-trivial knowledge expressed by the initial assumption used to build the micro-level of the model and the structure of the society of agents that emerged from the simulation

Kernel Partial Least Squares for Stationary Data

    No full text
We consider the kernel partial least squares algorithm for non-parametric regression with stationary dependent data. Probabilistic convergence rates of the kernel partial least squares estimator to the true regression function are established under a source and an effective dimensionality condition. It is shown both theoretically and in simulations that long range dependence results in slower convergence rates. A protein dynamics example shows high predictive power of kernel partial least squares

    The Kadison-Singer property

    No full text
This book gives a complete classification of all algebras with the Kadison-Singer property, when restricting to separable Hilbert spaces. The Kadison-Singer property deals with the following question: given a Hilbert space H and an abelian unital C*-subalgebra A of B(H), does every pure state on A extend uniquely to a pure state on B(H)? This question has deep connections to fundamental aspects of quantum physics, as is explained in the foreword by Klaas Landsman. The book starts with an accessible introduction to the concept of states and continues with a detailed proof of the classification of maximal Abelian von Neumann algebras, a very explicit construction of the Stone-Cech compactification and an account of the recent proof of the Kadison-Singer problem. At the end accessible appendices provide the necessary background material. This elementary account of the Kadison-Singer conjecture is very well-suited for graduate students interested in operator algebras and states, researchers who are non-specialists of the field, and/or interested in fundamental quantum physics

Crítica a la idea de liberación animal de Peter Singer

    No full text
This article undertakes an exhaustive analyses, from top to bottom, of the famous book of Peter Singer Animal Liberation of 1975. From the perspective of moral philosophy, this article criticises the ideas about the treatment of animals, which are developed in that book. The article deliberates on the concept of specism, which Singer defines as a prejudice of mankind against other species, and provides arguments against his opinion on the fact that animals are subject to rights. The analyses that we have developed aims at refuting Singer’s thesis by means of arguments founded on moral philosophy and economics. Rightly, the book of Singer criticises the fact that due to economic, health and national security reasons, we inflict a lacerating cruelty to animals. In our view, however, to use this fact as a basis to justify equality among animals, which includes man, is a fallacious argument that should be avoided.

The Ambrose-Singer Theorem for general homogeneous manifolds with applications to symplectic geometry

    No full text
2022 Acuerdos transformativos CRUEThe main Theorem of this article provides a characterization of reductive homogeneous spaces equipped with some geometric structure (not necessarily pseudo-Riemannian) in terms of the existence of certain connection. This result generalizes the well-known Theorem of Ambrose and Singer for Riemannian homogeneous spaces (Ambrose and Singer in Duke Math J 25(4):647–669, 1958). We relax the conditions in this theorem and prove a characterization of reductive locally homogeneous manifolds. Finally, we apply these results to classify, with explicit expressions, reductive locally homogeneous almost symplectic, symplectic and Fedosov manifolds.Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y UniversidadesJunta de Castilla y LeónDepto. de Álgebra, Geometría y TopologíaFac. de Ciencias MatemáticasTRUEpu

Partial least squares for dependent data.

    Get PDF
We consider the partial least squares algorithm for dependent data and study the consequences of ignoring the dependence both theoretically and numerically. Ignoring nonstationary dependence structures can lead to inconsistent estimation, but a simple modification yields consistent estimation. A protein dynamics example illustrates the superior predictive power of the proposed method
