Whose problem? Disability narratives and available identities
In this article, the author demonstrates that contemporary cultural disability discourses offer few positive resources for people with impairments to draw upon in constructing positive personal and social identities. Examining the emergence of the Disability Arts Movement in Britain, consideration is given to alternative discourses developed by disabled people who have resisted the passive roles expected of them and developed a disability identity rooted in notions of power, respect and control. It is suggested that these alternative discourses provide an empowering rather than a disabling basis for community development and community arts practice and should be embraced by workers in these fields
The Last laugh: humour in community activism
This paper uses Australian case studies to demonstrate the use of humour in social justice and eco-pax movements. Drawing from the literature and from personal experience in activist street-theatre over more than twenty years, the author discusses the rationale and motivations behind humorous activism, and notes audience reactions and impacts on participants. Using non-violence theory within the multidisciplinary paradigm of Peace Studies, he describes how activists use humour to enliven popular education, and to create liminal atmospheres conducive to non-violent conversion. Humorous activism creates common ground and complements other modes of activism. It is inclusive, drawing in audiences and adherents and attracting media attention. It simplifies and enhances communication, and allows activists to release emotions such as rage and frustration, while at the same time providing positive, enjoyable experiences for audiences. It can empower and inspire audiences, and bring a healthy balance and diversity to activism
Inter-agency Cooperation and New Approaches to Employability
This article examines the role of inter-agency cooperation, which is one form of ‘partnership’, in new approaches to employability in the UK. The article articulates a ‘model for effective partnership working’ on employability. This model is applied first in a general review of employability policy and then to discuss case study research on the recent ‘Pathways to Work’ and ‘Working Neighbourhoods’ pilots. It is argued that successful partnerships need a clear strategic focus based on a necessity for inter-agency cooperation and institutional arrangements that allow for shared ownership, trust and mutualism, and flexibility in resource-sharing. While some of these factors are apparent in UK employability services, an over-reliance on contractualism and centralized organizational structures may undermine partnership-based approaches. Many of the success factors associated with effective partnership working appeared to be in place, even though the role of the Public Employment Service was fundamentally different in each case (as a key actor in implementing the first pilot, but largely withdrawing from the implementation role in the second). The article concludes by outlining the relevance of this model and the case study findings to discussions of the future development of employability policies and related partnership working
Shaking-induced dynamics of cold atoms in magnetic traps
We describe an experiment in which cold rubidium atoms, confined in an elongated magnetic trap, are excited
by transverse oscillation of the trap center. The temperature after excitation exhibits resonance as a function of
the driving frequency. We measure these resonances at several different trap frequencies. In order to interpret the
experiments, we develop a simple model that incorporates both collisions between atoms and the anharmonicity
of the real three-dimensional trapping potential. As well as providing a precise connection between the transverse
harmonic oscillation frequency and the temperature resonance frequency, this model gives insight into the heating
and loss mechanisms and into the dynamics of driven clouds of cold trapped atoms

Permanent-magnet atom chips for the study of long, thin atom clouds
Atom-chip technology can be used to confine atoms tightly using permanently magnetised videotape along with external magnetic fields. The one-dimensional (1D) gas regime can be realised and studied by trapping the atoms in high-aspect-ratio traps in which the radial motion of the system is confined to zero-point oscillation
Greetings from the last issue of 2019 and special thanks to all members of CDJ!
In 2019, Cumhuriyet Dental Journal underwent a major renewal with its rich content and increasing international colleagues. As a result of the process I managed with the vision that Cumhuriyet Dental Journal should be a more internationally recognized journal, in 2019 we had the opportunity to publish the articles of many authors from different countries. I hope that the number of authors from other countries in Cumhuriyet Dental Journal will increase gradually next year.
Cumhuriyet Dental Journal received 235 submissions in 2019 and reached the highest level in its publication history. However, our acceptance rate is 26%. For this reason, the review process of our journal has become more selective.
The new policy of our journal to be held since 2020, and revised Author Guideline is now published in our website. The authors, who will also submit new papers to Cumhuriyet Dental Journal, should carefully examine the relevant sections and submit their papers according to the writing rules.
In 2020, Cumhuriyet Dental Journal will welcome new prestigious Associate Editors and Editorial Board members. I would like to also welcome all colleagues who would like to join Cumhuriyet Dental Journal.
I owe many thanks to the people who contributed to the development of Cumhuriyet Dental Journal. First of all, I would like to thank the readers who followed the rich content of our journal. I would like to thank the Authors for their great effort and papers. I have special thanks to the Editorial Board members and Associate Editors. I owe a very special thanks to the Reviewers who have significantly helped the development of Cumhuriyet Dental Journal.
I wish a happy new year in 2020 and also happy readings in the last issue of 2019
