Akcentuojamas grafiškai patrauklus faksimilės dizainas, pabrėžiami grafiko A. Žviliaus nuopelnai. Reikšminiai žodžiai: Martynas Liudvikas Rėza; Martynas Liudvikas RėzaThe review presents Liucijos Citavičiūtė’s complied book “Martynas Liudvikas Rėza, Raštai 1”. The major part is dedicated to the description of the structure and content of the book. The author notes that philological works published in the first volume of M.L Rhesa’s writings were produced when he was preparing a new publication of the Lithuanian library: historiographical research “History of Lithuanian Bible” and editorial comments to the Bible “Philological critical remarks to the Lithuanian Bible”. Attention is drawn to the significance of L.Rhesa’s personal library catalogue announced in the Annex. The author emphasis that it is the only survived exemplar of the catalogue, therefore, it is very important for L. Rhesa’s biographies and bibliographies. When discussing editorial comments to the Bible, the author notes that L. Rhesa’s accurately paralleled the Lithuanian translation with Bible texts written in old languages. His work is significant, since it accurately presents historical and philological comments to the edition of the Bible. The review also discusses L. Citavičiūtė’s articles “Rhesa’s path to the 21th c.”, “Rhesa – the first scientific editor of the Bible”, as well as D. Petkūnas’ article “Priest and Theologian Martynas Liudvikas Rhesa”. The reviewer notes that the facsimile publication of L. Rhesa writings will be useful for Lithuanian theologians, philologists and historians. The graphically attractive facsimile design is highlighted, and the merits of the graphic master A. Žvilius are emphasised
Canticles of Martynas Mažvydas in the works of composer Kristina Vasiliauskaitė
Martyno Mažvydo knygų giesmės (XVI a.) – vienos žinomiausių lietuvių protestantų bažnyčios tradicijoje. Senos kilmės jų melodijos visais laikais domino Europos kompozitorius: Johannas Kugelmannas , Johannesas Eccardas, Johannas Sebastianas Bachas, Ditrichas Buxtehude, Matthaeus Praetorius, M. Franckas, Felixas Mendelssohnas-Bartholdy, Igoris Stravinskis ir kt. protestantiškų giesmių melodijas yra naudoję savo vokalinėse bei instrumentinėse kompozicijose. XX a. pabaigoje į jas dėmesį atkreipė ir šiuolaikiniai lietuvių kompozitoriai. Kompozitorė Kristina Vasiliauskaitė (g. 1956), viena žymiausių bažnytinės muzikos kūrėjų, taip pat susidomėjo liuteroniškomis M. Mažvydo giesmėmis. Iš dešimties „Katekizmo“ giesmių melodijų ji pasirinko septynias ir harmonizavo jas balsui bei vargonams. Harmonizuotėse autorė išsaugojo melodinį, derminį, ritminį, struktūrinį giesmių autentiškumą, praturtindama jų skambesį harmonijos, faktūros, tembrų požiūriu. Kompozitorė praplėtė evangelikų liuteroniškųjų giesmių skambėjimo erdvę – jos gali būti atliekamos koncertų scenose. Straipsnyje nagrinėjamas kompozitorės kūrinys „Giesmės iš Martyno Mažvydo katekizmo“, parašytas 1996 metais; pateikiama K. Vasiliauskaitės kūrybos apžvalga, aptariamos harmonizuotų giesmių muzikinės savybės, tiriama vokalinės melodijos ir vargonų partijos sąveika; atskleidžiama kūrinio reikšmė gaivinamam Mažosios Lietuvos dvasiniam paveldui. Reikšminiai žodžiai: Evangelikai liuteronai; Giesmynas; Giesmė; Giesmės; Grigališkasis choralas; Harmonizacijos; Kompozitorius; Kristina Vasiliauskaitė; Lietuviai; Liuteronai; Martynas Mažvydas; Vargonai; Canticle; Canticles; Composer; Evangelical Lutherans; Gregorian chant; Harmonizations; Hymnal; Kristina Vasiliauskaitė; Lithuanians; Lutherans; Martynas Mažvydas; OrganThe hymns from the books of Martynas Mažvydas (16th c.) are among most known in the Lithuanian Protestant Church tradition. Their old melodies have always been of interest to European composers: Johannes Kugelmann, Johannes Eccard, Johann Sebastian Bach, Dieterich Buxtehude, Matthaeus Praetorius, Melchior Franck, Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Igor Stravinsky and others have used the melodies of Protestant hymns in their vocal and instrumental compositions. At the end of the 20th contemporary Lithuanian composers drew their attention to them. Composer Kristina Vasiliauskaitė (b. 1956), one of the most prominent creators of ecclesiastical music, also became interested in Lutheran hymns of Mažvydas. From ten hymns from the “Catechism” she selected seven melodies and harmonised them for voice and organ. In these harmonisations the author preserved melodic, modal, rhythmic and structural authenticity of hymns, enriching their sound in respect of harmony, facture and timbres. The composer expanded the space of performing Evangelical Lutheran hymns: they might be performed in concert halls. The paper investigates the composer’s piece “Giesmės iš Martyno Mažvydo katekizmo” [Hymns from Martynas Mažvydas’ Catechism], composed in 1996; gives an overview of Vasiliauskaitė’s works; discusses the musical features of harmonised hymns; examines the interaction of a vocal melody and the organ part; reveals the significance of the piece for the spiritual heritage of Lithuania Minor, which is being revived
Collection of post-incunabula in the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania
Reikšminiai žodžiai: Knygos kultūra; Knygotyra; Lietuvos nacionalinė Martyno Mažvydo biblioteka; Paleotipai; Proveniencijos; Retos knygos; Spaustuvininkai; Book culture; Book science; Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania; Post-incunabula; Printers; Provenance; Provenances; Publishers; Rare book; Rare booksBesides incunabula, the oldest and the most valuable printed matter in the world includes palaeotypes – books that were printed in the first half of the 16th century (from 1 January 1501 to 1 January 1551). They are considered to be historical values and cultural monuments due to particularity of their publishing and their similarity to incunabula. Palaeotypes marked the final stage of the transition from the manuscript book to the printed one, which ended in different countries at different times. The article examines palaeotypes held in the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania, Rare Books and Manuscripts Department: place of their publication, typographers, themes and proveniences with focus on rarer publications that are more significant to the culture of the Lithuanian book. The author states that the collection of palaeotypes at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania, Rare Books and Manuscripts Department, contains valuable and interesting books that are relevant to the European culture and that of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, numerous works by famous Protestants of that period and quite a large collection of works by the most eminent humanist, Erasmus Roterodamus. Of more than 800 palaeotypes kept at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania, the article analyses only a number of them, since over 200 books have just a card bibliographic description and it is now impossible to examine them in detail. The analysis of these palaeotypes, however, partly supplements existing research and expands the view of culture of the old book

The burghers were always pushed into shadow by the representatives of the nobility. In this respect, the sixteenth century is especially poor and each new fact that adds to our knowledge about the intellectual and creative potential of the townspeople of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the sixteenth century is significant. The aim of this paper is to introduce and analyse a work written and published by one burgher of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the mid-sixteenth century. The object of research is a little-known rare publication the accurate full title of which is the following: Elegia de Re|surrectione Domini no|stri Iesu Christi, continens | descriptionem pugnae Ipsius apud inferos, |et simul triumphi Eius ascenden|tis ad Patrem, | scripta | ad illustrissimum prin|cipem et dominum, dominum Nicolaum Radziuil, | ducem in Olika et Niesuisz, palatinum Vilnensem, can|cellarium et marschalcum magni ducatus Lithuuaniae, | generalem Brestensem, Schanlensem, et | Borisoniensem capita|neum, etc. | autore Martino Grado| uuio Caunensi. L. | Anno 1561 [VD16 ZV 6919]. Only two copies of the Elegia are known to bibliographers during the 450 years that have passed since its publication. The fate of the copy described by Jan Daniel Janocki is unknown. In all likelihood it perished in the hardships of history that befell the Zaluski library. The only known copy, the so-called unicate, is currently kept in Germany, at the Gotha Research Library (Forschungsbibliothek Gotha). The shelfmark of the book: Phil. 4o 00203/05. It is a small eight-leaf publication in quarto, in a binding consisting of as many as 170 similar occasional works. The objectives of the article are the following: (1) to determine where precisely Elegia was printed, (2) to prove that the author of Elegia Martynas Gradovskis (Martinus Gradovius, Marcin Gradowski) was indeed a burgher of Kaunas, (3) to introduce his person and his family, and (4) to reveal a broader cultural and literary context of this small book. Since the place of publication is not given on the title page, all bibliographic sources claim that it is unknown. Although it is not given on the title page, it is not hard to identify from the dedication by Martynas Gradovskis, the author of Elegia, to Mikalojus Radvila the Black (Mikołaj Radziwiłł Czarny), the voivode of Vilnius. It turns out that the book was printed at the printing house of Johann Eichorn in Frankfurt (Oder). Not having seen the work itself and resorting to the reiterated title, the majority of those who wrote about Elegia had doubts as to whether Martynas Gradovskis was a burgher of Kaunas or possibly a noble. The above-mentioned dedication to Mikalojus Radvila the Black is a proof that Martynas Gradovskis, the author of Elegia, came from the burghers of Kaunas. So far only four undeniable facts are known about Martynas Gradovskis. First of all, his father Simonas Gradovskis was a burgher of Kaunas, a lay judge, member of Council, and eventually a burgomaster. Martynas must have been born in Kaunas. The exact year is unknown, but one can guess that he must have been born between 1540 and 1543. The second true fact is that in 1559 we see him at the University of Frankfurt (Oder): he enrolled during the spring term, after 23 April. The third fact is that Marcin stayed in Frankfurt (Oder) until 1561 (with or without intervals), and early in 1561 he wrote and published his Elegia here. On the title page, the author’s name is followed by the abbreviation L, which very likely means Licenciatus (-o), that is, the degree achieved. The fourth known fact is the date of his death. We know that he died early in 1569 in Gdansk. It becomes clear from the ascertained facts that Martynas Gradovskis died when he was 25–30 years old at the most; there was not enough time for self-realisation or an outstanding career, which explains why information about him in extant sources is scarce. More can be said about the family into which Martynas was born. His father, Simonas Gradovskis, was a burgher of Kaunas, a lay judge, member of Council, and eventually a burgomaster; his mother, Barbora Barčiūtė, was a townswoman. Simonas Gradovskis, a long-standing burgomaster of Kaunas, was one of the prominent personalities of Kaunas in the middle and the second half of the sixteenth century. He was born between 1510 and 1515, was a lay judge from at least 1544, later became member of Council, and a burgomaster in 1550. He died in the 1570s. [...
"Form der Tauff" (1559) - the original of the translation of Martynas Mažvydas' "Forma Chrikštymo" (1559)
Reikšminiai žodžiai: Christian Stang; Christianas Stangas; Martynas Mažvydas; Originalas; Publikavimas; Vertimas; „Form der Tauff“; „Forma Chrikštymo“; Christian Stang; Martynas Mažvydas; Original; Publication; Translation; „Form der Tauff“; „Forma Chrikštymo“The article tackles the problem of the original from which Martynas Mažvydas translated this Forma Chrikštymo (1559). Publication Form der Tauff (1559), which was discovered by the author of this article in the State Library of Prussian Cultural Heritage (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preusischer Kulturbesitz, Haus Nr. 1, Unter den Linden: Dr 14728 R) in Berlin, allows one to justify the opinion of Christian Stang (1976), who thought that Mažvydas was using this publication for his translation and not the Kirchenordnung written in 1558, as it is most often stated in the historiography of the Lithuanian literature. Thus, the analysis of Mažvydas' Forma Chrikštymo cannot be based on the comparison to the Kirchenordnung of 1558 any more

Examination of Preterm Birth – Related Single Nucleotide Gene Polymorphisms in Newborns and Maternal Genome Martynas Kairys Systems biology master studies Vilnius University, Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Department of Human and Medical Genetics. Aim of the project was to analyze and evaluate single nucleotide gene polymorphisms related to preterm birth in healthy Lithuanian newborn and maternal genomes. The topic was chosen because preterm birth is still a big concern in healthcare, even with advancement of medicine. According to statistics, 13.4 million children were born preterm in 2020. This results in approximately 1 in 10 babies. Preterm born babies could face various medical conditions. Analysis was done using a makefile written by the author. Makefile is a set of rules and commands written in a specific language. Data for the research was provided by the supervisor of the thesis. Data was annotated, filtered, and prepared for further analysis. Analysis was done by calculating Hardy – Weinberg equilibriums and frequencies for the single nucleotide polymorphisms. Hardy – Weinberg equilibrium calculations were used to check which polymorphisms are imbalanced, while frequency calculations and comparison to other populations provided information about prevalence. Results for Hardy – Weinberg equilibrium showed that there is an excess of heterozygotes in Lithuanian population for some polymorphisms, associated with preterm birth. Variant frequency calculations enabled comparative analysis to other populations. It was found that most of the found SNPs had a higher frequency compared to different European populations. It was found that, both groups had variants, that are associated with preterm birth, according to literature sources. In most cases, frequencies of these variants were higher compared to analysed populations. More extensive research on this topic should be completed, including preterm – born babies’ and their mothers’ data
Optimizing transportation between ports and the hinterland for decreasing impact to the environment /
Today different transport modes use to deliver cargo between regions, from ports to final destination location or visa-versa. It is quite common to use road transport, which can deliver cargo “from door to door” but road transport causes big environmental impact. Considering alternative possibilities (road, railway and/or inland waterway transport) to decrease environmental impact from transport, it is very important. Based on theoretical and experimental tests, were find optimal solutions, which transport mode make minimum environmental impact and could be the most technically and economically effective solution. Traffic congestion on the roads, in some cases very high railway traffic in some regions, generates requirements by many stakeholders on ways to decrease the environmental impact from transport modes, which studded in Article to find and identify optimal transportation solutions with minimum environmental impact. A theoretical method evaluation conducted on the optimal transportation possibility that minimizes environmental impact. A transport modes environmental comparative index (ECI) is developed and used for evaluations. This paper presents possible alternative transportation conditions based on multi-criteria evaluation system, proposes theoretical basis for the optimal solutions from environmental and economic point of view, and provides for experimental testing during the specific case study, and finally provides recommendations and conclusions
The Genius Loci in the Martynas Liudvikas Rėza's works
Recenzentai: prof. dr. T. Solomonik-Pankrašova (VU); dr. D. Kuizinienė (VDU)The article analyzes how the landscape of the Curonian Spit was understood in Rėza’s poetry book “Prutena”, in the collection of Lithuanian “Dainos” and other literary and linguistic works, what was the most important to the writer. Rėza described the place which was for him homeland. The Curonian Spit has very big significance for this author comparing with other Lithuanian origin writers from Germany. The focus is made on the literary description of the Curonian Spit in the different texts, which were published firstly in the 19th century. The writer tried to express individual emotional and intellectual experience, and to revive the cultural memory of this place. His works were very significant stimulus for other Lithuanian authors who wrote about Curonian Spit later. This article explores the literary and linguistic texts of the 19th century which were written in the East Prussia by Martynas Liudvikas Rėza (1776–1840). He was a professor of Theology, Director of Lithuanian Seminary and the author of “Prutena” (1809, 1825). His native place was Karvaičiai, the very small village in the Curonian Spit. The writer always remembered the time when the place was covered with quicksand and disappeared without signs. There was no other text devoted to the memory of his homeland. The metaphoric term “genius loci” is applied to describe the specifics of the perception of place.Humanitarinių mokslų fakultetas / Faculty of HumanitiesVytauto Didžiojo universitetas / Vytautas Magnus UniversityLituanistikos katedra / Department of Lithuanian Studie
The history of this workshop in Albertina of Konigsberg has only recently attracted academic attention. Liucija Citavičiūtė wrote remarks, the introduction and comments to the recently published (2003) "The History of the Lithuanian Language Workshop" by Rhesa. It is a short yet an extensive thesis. It highlights the vast number of historical resources reviewed by the author (the Secret State Archives of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation in Berlin, the State Archive in Olsztyn, Lithuanian Archives). Due to the author, the academic society and common readers have received the opportunity to familiarise with the material providing information about the period in Rhesa's life revealing a wider context of Lithuania's life in the 19th c. Part of that archive material has become available to the general public in the publication of the source and its annexes. The manuscripts of Ludwig Rhesa were first kept in the state archive of Konigsberg, and are now kept in the State Archive in Olsztyn. The preface and comments to the publication discuss the significance of the workshop for the Lithuanian language and literature, the role of Rhesa in activities of the workshop, his written legacy, and, finally, the history of the very workshop. The work contains indexes of personal and place names. Due to Liucija Citavičiūtė, this first scientific publication about the workshop of the Lithuanian language in Konigsberg has been published. But this should be only the beginning. Now, we are looking forward to the publication of an extensive scientific research, which Citavičiūtė performed in her thesis
