New JIT, New Management Technology Principle: Surpassing JIT

No full text
AbstractThe aim of this paper is to reassess the way management technology was carried out in the manufacturing industry and establish “New JIT, New Management Technology Principle”. New JIT consists of the Total Development System (TDS), the Total Production System (TPS) and the Total Marketing System (TMS), which are the three core elements required for establishing new management technology principles for sales, R&D, design, engineering, and production, among others. To realize manufacturing that places top priority on customers with a good QCD in a rapidly changing technical environment, the author proposes a high linkage model, employing a structured “integrated triple management technologies system - Advanced TDS, TPS & TMS” for expanding “uniform quality worldwide and production at optimum locations”

Quality Criteria for Just-in-Time Requirements: Just Enough, Just-in-Time?

No full text
Abstract—Just-in-time (JIT) requirements drive agile teams in planning and implementing software systems. In this paper, we start with the hypothesis that performing informal verification of JIT requirements is useful. For this purpose we propose a framework for quality criteria for JIT requirements. This framework can be used by JIT teams to define ‘just-enough’ quality criteria. The framework also includes a time dimension such that quality criteria can be defined as ‘just-in-time’. We demonstrate the application of this framework to feature requests in open source projects and explain how it could be customized for other JIT environments. We present our results for feature requests in open source projects, to show that there is a difference between creation-time quality and just-in-time quality. As this is ongoing research, we also list several points for discussion and future work. I

The company where the author conducted research is a company engaged in the automotive sector that produces various seals for motor vehicles and heavy equipment. The raw material used is rubber (synthetic rubber). This company has difficulty determining the amount of Rubber inventory by the needs so that there is no excess inventory stock that can cause excess inventory costs. The method used in this research is Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) and Just In Time (JIT). The author intends to compare the two methods to the cost efficiency of raw material inventory and choose which method is more appropriate for this company. From the research, it is known that the inventory costs incurred by the company are Rp. 6,048,000, while the result of the cost calculation using the EOQ method is Rp. 3,678,175 and Rp's JIT method. 1,320,945. It can be concluded that the JIT method has the smallest total cost of inventory compared to the EOQ method and the company method. A framework for quality assessment of just-in-time requirements: The case of open source feature requests

No full text
Until now, quality assessment of requirements has focused on traditional up-front requirements. Contrasting these traditional requirements are just-in-time (JIT) requirements, which are by definition incomplete, not specific and might be ambiguous when initially specified, indicating a different notion of "correctness." We analyze how the assessment of JIT requirements quality should be performed based on the literature of traditional and JIT requirements. Based on that analysis, we have designed a quality framework for JIT requirements and instantiated it for feature requests in open source projects. We also indicate how the framework can be instantiated for other types of JIT requirements. We have performed an initial evaluation of our framework for feature requests with eight practitioners from the Dutch agile community, receiving overall positive feedback. Subsequently, we have used our framework to assess 550 feature requests originating from three Open Source Software systems (Netbeans, ArgoUML and Mylyn Tasks). In doing so, we obtain a view on the feature request quality for the three open source projects. The value of our framework is threefold: (1) it gives an overview of quality criteria that are applicable to feature requests (at creation time or JIT); (2) it serves as a structured basis for teams that need to assess the quality of their JIT requirements; and (3) it provides a way to get an insight into the quality of JIT requirements in existing projects.Software Engineerin

Alternative fuels in heavy-duty truck transport for a sustainable future: A study assessing the feasibility ranking of hydrogen, battery electric, biodiesel HVO and LNG powered trucks in European heavy-duty transport when a JIT/JIS supply chain strategy is applied

No full text
Since the last decade, climate change and environmental awareness has received increasingly more attention from politicians and companies. In order to preserve earth’s climate, a lot has to be changed in current industry standards. In 2018, heavy-duty road transport was responsible for 680 million tonnes kg in transported commodities in the Netherlands (CBS, 2019). This resulted in 10.176 million tonnes of emitted CO2 in the same year (CBS, 2020). As these transportation activities are a big part of the current pollution, there is a lot to be gained in this area. Therefore, industries are investigating to make their transportation activities more sustainable.Large manufacturing plants often apply specific supply chain strategies in order to reduce waste. One of those wastes are warehousing costs. Just-in-Time (JIT) and Just-in-Sequence (JIS) are supply chain strategies that aim to reduce these costs (Bányai & Bányai, 2017). A JIT supply chain strategy refers to a strategy where commonly used parts are delivered at the plant when needed, therefore reducing storage capacity. A JIS strategy goes even further. When products are customizable, a JISstrategy ensures that the required parts are delivered in the sequence of production.Upon till now, a lot has been researched with regard to alternative fuels in heavy-duty transport, especially in the hydrogen and battery electric area. However, these studies often stay on a general logistics level. Specific concepts such as JIT and JIS may influence choices for alternative fuels due to more important time constraints such as a predefined and strict pearl chain horizon. Therefore, the aim of this thesis was to research the feasiblity ranking of alternative fuels (hydrogen, battery electric, HVO and LNG) in a JIT/JIS supply chain.Management of Technology (MoT

Design & Construction ManagementReal Estate & HousingArchitectur
