On the Lebesgue integral and the Lebesgue measure: mathematical applications in some sectors of Chern-Simons theory and Yang-Mills gauge theory and mathematical connections with some sectors of String Theory and Number Theory
In this paper, in the Section 1, we have described some equations and theorems concerning the Lebesgue integral and the Lebesgue measure. In the Section 2, we have described the possible mathematical applications, of Lebesgue integration, in some equations concerning various sectors of Chern-Simons theory and Yang-Mills gauge theory, precisely the two dimensional quantum Yang-Mills theory. In conclusion, in the Section 3, we have described also the possible mathematical connections with some sectors of String Theory and Number Theory, principally with some equations concerning the Ramanujan’s modular equations that are related to the physical vibrations of the bosonic strings and of the superstrings, some Ramanujan’s identities concerning π and the zeta strings
(Re)-forming marriage in Australia? : relationship trends
In the previous edition of Family Matters, Robyn Parker, in her article 'Perspectives on the future of marriage', discussed international perspectives on the retreat from marriage, the growth of cohabitation, and whether marriage is valued, concluding with some thoughts on what the future of marriage might be. Michele Simons, Head of School for the School of Education at the University of South Australia was invited to respond to the issues raised in the article
Topological aspects of non-abelian Chern-Simons theory
openWe introduce the non-abelian Chern-Simons functional in 3 dimensions and the corresponding partition function. Via the Faddeev-Popov gauge fixing procedure and the stationary phase approximation we evaluate the 1-loop contribution to the partition function.
In order to investigate the metric dependence of the resulting expression, we make use of some mathematical results by Albert Schwarz and the Atiyah-Patodi-Singer index theorem.
The final result shows that the partition function depends on the metric in a simple, controllable way. We also elaborate on the possibility of removing such dependence by adopting a different choice of regularization scheme. We introduce the non-abelian Chern-Simons functional in 3 dimensions and the corresponding partition function. Mix or match? New Apprentices' learning styles and trainers' preferences for training in workplaces
Roger Harris, Michele Simons and John Bone show that the preferred workplace features of trainers and New Apprentices in manufacturing were quite different from those in retail and community services. The nature of work and industry shapes what is expected to support learning in any particular workplace. The practicalities of industry workplaces mean that preferences cannot always be met, and hence the expectations of both trainers and New Apprentices need to be clarified early in their working relationship
Shifting mindsets: the changing work roles of vocational education and training practitioners
Reforms to Australia\u27s vocational education and training sector have had a significant impact on practitioners\u27 work in public and private providers. Roger Harris, Michele Simons, Berwyn Clayton analyse practitioners\u27 perceptions of, and reactions to, the changes. The scope of these changes has been substantial and has required shifts to practitioners\u27 habits, norms, skills and knowledge. While the greatest changes have been increased work responsibilities and shifts in relations with industry in particular, a key theme is the varied impact the changes have on VET organisations and practitioners
Michele Taruffo: el magisterio y la obra ejemplares del genial procesalista «todoterreno»
The author reflects on Michele Taruffo’s extraordinarily important contribution to the renewal of both conventional procedural law scholarship and the theoretical background of law-court professionals. Taruffo’s contribution was achieved by means of introducing to mainstream culture in those circles the necessary knowledge of the underlying epistemic dimension, which was traditionally suppressed by the strictly legal one.
A huge learning curve: TAFE practitioners’ ways of working with private enterprises
Increasingly, vocational education and training practitioners work with industry and within private enterprises in arrangements that provide training for workers. Drawing on interviews with TAFE practitioners and managers, enterprise managers and on-the-job learners, Roger Harris, Michele Simons and Julian Moore highlight the expanding roles of TAFE practitioners in these training arrangements. They find that in private enterprises TAFE practitioners introduce new elements to learning, provide support to managers and workers, build links between the organisation and TAFE and raise training standards. They also foster a learning culture, support individual workers, and act as a model of lifelong learning. The impact of TAFE practitioners\u27 work is also analysed from the perspective of the enterprises, and findings indicate that it is valued by industry counterparts. However, the success of the training arrangement, which can significantly improve learning in the workplace, depends on establishing effective relationships between TAFE and industry

How school leaders attract, recruit, develop and retain the early career teachers they want : positives and paradoxes
Attracting and retaining high-quality teachers to the profession is of international concern as it has far-reaching economic and social implications for all nations. In Australia, discussion of teacher workforce development has focused predominantly on attracting and recruiting quality teachers, with less attention given to the broader retention process. In this chapter, we discuss how school leaders influence new teachers and foster their professional commitment. Furthermore, we identify the micropolitical activities that school leaders consciously use to promote the engagement and retention of the early career teachers they want to keep. We also present data and analyses which reveal the dilemmas and paradoxes that school leaders encounter when they attempt to reconcile the competing demands of different stakeholders in the staffing process. We juxtapose the mostly benevolent actions of leaders with their often-unintended consequences to establish the need for ongoing critical reflection about the impact of taken-for-granted human resources processes on early career teachers
