Depth-Resolved Wavefront Aberrations using a Coherence-Gated Shack-Hartmann Wavefront Sensor
No full textIn the present paper we investigate the possibility of narrowing the depth range of a physical Shack - Hartmann (SH) wavefront sensor (WFS) by using coherence gating. For the coherence gating, two low coherence interferometry (LCI) methods are evaluated and proof of principle configurations demonstrated: (i) a time domain LCI method based on phase shifting interferometry and (ii) a spectral domain LCI method, based on tuning a narrow band optical source. The two configurations are used to demonstrate each, the possibility of constructing a coherence gated (CG) SH/WFS. It is shown that these configurations produce spot patterns similar to those provided by a conventional SH/WFS. The two proof of principle configurations are also used to illustrate elimination of stray reflections in the interface optics which normally disturb the operation of conventional SH/WFSs. The speed and noise performance of the two CG-SH/WFS implementations are discussed

Magnetohydrodynamic turbulence in a Hartmann duct flow at finite magnetic Reynolds number
No full textThe dynamics of turbulent flow at finite magnetic Reynolds numbers can be very complex due to the coupled nature of the evolution equations for the flow and magnetic fields. In this regime, the Hartmann flow in a straight rectangular duct with streamwise periodicity is studied with the help of direct numerical simulations (DNS) and the effect of magnetic Reynolds number on turbulent statistics is quantified by comparing the results with the numerical results obtained using the quasistatic approximation

Over time, his reluctance increased, Russian and soviets’ political leaders are directly criticized in L’Invitation. By difference, in Le Jardin des Plantes, denunciation shows through an ironical tone and is mostly indirect. It uses poetical means like oxymoron and antinomy. It is showed by feminine figures which illustrates resistance to ideological or moral proscriptions.Même s’il a disposé d’une carte du parti, Claude Simon n’a jamais été réellement convaincu par le communisme. Au fil du temps, la distance s’est creusée comme le montrent les mises en causes des principaux dirigeants russes puis soviétiques. En se focalisant sur le traitement de ces personnalités, dans L’Invitation et dans Le Jardin des Plantes, l’article souligne que la critique politique, telle que la pratique Claude Simon dans ce dernier roman, est essentiellement indirecte. Elle utilise l’ironie, elle procède par rapprochements inattendus, elle reprend des procédés poétiques comme l’oxymore et l’antinomie. High resolution airborne measurements of wind and temperature during the BACSAM II campaign in April 2024
No full textDuring research flight 09 (RF09) of the airborne measurement campaign Boundary layer and Aerosol and Cloud Study in the Arctic, based on aircraft and T-Bird Measurements (BACSAM) II, meteorological data (temperature, 3 wind components, air pressure) were measured at high temporal resolution (100 Hz) onboard the towed body T-Bird. The T-Bird is introduced in detail in Juranyi et al., 2025, details concerning RF09 can be found in Simon et al., 2025 (in prep).
RF09 took place on 25 April 2024 and started and ended in Longyearbyen, Svalbard. Data are only reported for the times the T-Bird was winched out and flying below the aircraft. Temperatures are measured by an open wire Pt100 in an unheated Rosemount housing. An Aventech 5-hole-probe at the tip of the T-Bird facilitates fast turbulence measurements. Full accuracy of the wind measurements is only achieved during straight flight level sections. We refer to Hartmann et al. Nature-Based Flood Risk Management on Private Land
No full textThis open access book addresses the various disciplinary aspects of nature-based solutions in flood risk management on private land. In recent decades, water management has been moving towards nature-based solutions. These are assumed to be much more multi-purpose than traditional “grey infrastructures” and seem to be regarded as a panacea for many environmental issues. At the same time, such measures require more – and mostly privately owned – land and more diverse stakeholder involvement than traditional (grey) engineering approaches. They also present challenges related to different disciplines. Nature-based solutions for flood risk management not only require technical expertise, but also call for interdisciplinary insights from land-use planning, economics, property rights, sociology, landscape planning, ecology, hydrology, agriculture and other disciplines to address the challenges of implementing them. Ultimately, nature-based flood risk management is a multi-disciplinary endeavor. Featuring numerous case studies of nature-based flood risk management accompanied by commentaries, this book presents brief academic reflections from two different disciplinary perspectives that critically highlight which specific aspects are of significance, and as such, underscore the multi-disciplinary nature of the challenges faced.
