Gay toilet [picture] /
Part of collection: Simon O'Dwyer collection of photographs.; Title supplied by photographer.; Also available in an electronic version via the Internet at: http://nla.gov.au/nla.pic-vn3085561; Published in: The Age. "Melbourne's annual gay pride festival in St Kilda provides a colourful day for the people of Melbourne. After photographing the event I returned to my car for the drive back to the office to file for news conference at 4.00 pm. As I walked through the gardens I noticed a man dressed as a woman heading towards the men's toilet. With camera at the ready I fired off one frame to capture a light-hearted moment of the day. The picture appeared in full colour on page three of The Age newspaper to the delight and anger of the gay community. Photographed with a Nikon F5 camera using an 80-200mm lens on Kodak Pro. 100 ASA film."--Simon O'Dwyer.Age (Melbourne, Vic.
Starfish diver [picture] /
Part of collection: Simon O'Dwyer collection of photographs.; Title supplied by photographer.; Also available in an electronic version via the Internet at: http://nla.gov.au/nla.pic-vn3085545. "Starfish, which have been sucked into the ballast tanks of cargo ships from Japan, are carried into Port Phillip Bay, before being released with the ship's water. The starfish eat and breed in prolific proportions destroying all life in the bay. Killing the starfish has created enormous problems for scientists in Australia, as the fish are resilient to all means of wiping them out. This image was made for The Age newspaper to highlight the growing problem faced in the bay. Photographed with a Nikon F5 camera in an underwater bag."--Simon O'Dwyer
