    DEFI T SIMBOLON. The effect of ratio of passion fruit with star fruit juice and concentration of arabic gum on quality of jelly candy supervised by ZULKIFLI LUBIS and MIMI NURMINAH. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of passion fruit with star fruit juice and concentration of arabic gum on the quality of jelly candy. This research was conducted in June 2015 in Food Chemical Analysis Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty, North Sumatera University, Medan. This research was using factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors, i.e: ratio of passion fruit with star fruit juice (S) : (70%:30% ; 60%:40% ; 50%: 50%; 40%:60%) and concentration of arabic gum (A): (0,5%, 1,0%, 1,5%, and 2,0%). The analyzed parameters were water content (%), ash content (%), vitamin C content (mg/100 g sample), total soluble solid (ºBrix), total acid (%),and organoleptic values (colour, taste, texture, and aroma). The results showed that the ratio of passion fruit and star fruit juice had highly significant effect on water content, vitamin C content,total soluble solid, total acid, score of organoleptic values of taste and texture. Arabic gum concentration had highly significant effect on moisture content,ash content, and vitamin C content and has significant efect on score of organoleptic values of texture. Interactions of the two factors had highly significant effect on moisture content. The best treatment which gave the best effect on jelly candy was 70%:30% of passion fruit and star fruit juice and 2,0% arabic gum.99 HalamanSkripsi Sarjan

    Part 1 of the paper presents Polish glottodidactics (PG) as a practical field and a scientific discipline and points to its current position in academic education, Polish language policy, and the humanities. Part 2 discusses the theses of the academic monograph by Władysław T. Miodunka: Glottodydaktyka polonistyczna. Pochodzenie – stan obecny – perspektywy (Polish glottodidactics. Origin – the present state – prospects) (Księgarnia Akademicka, Kraków 2016), which the author of this paper considers the most important summary of the achievements of the contemporary PG in the history. In the individual chapters of the monograph, W.T. Miodunka focuses on: defi ning PG, seen as a scientific discipline, identifying its subdisciplines, and enumerating the major accomplishments of the researchers working within each of them. In the presented study, the author illustrates the evolution of PG from the viewpoint of pedagogical innovations, demonstrates his own vision of periodisation and prospects for its development.     Can authority be sustained while balancing accessibility and formality?

    Economics has developed into a quantitative discipline that makes extensive use of mathematical and statistical concepts. When writing a dictionary for economics undergraduates it has to be recognised that many users will not have suffi cient training in mathematics to benefi t from formal defi nitions of mathematical and statistical concepts. In fact, it is more than likely that the user will want the dictionary to provide an accessible version of a defi nition that avoids mathematical notation. Providing a verbal description of a mathematical concept has the risk that the outcome is both verbose (compared to a defi nition using appropriate mathematical symbols) and imprecise. For the author of a dictionary this raises the question of how to resolve this confl ict between accessibility and formal correctness. We use a range of examples from the Oxford Dictionary of Economics to illustrate this confl ict and to assess the extent to which a non-formal defi nition can be viewed as authoritative.Nigar Hashimzade, Georgina A.     Od uveljavitve krasoslovja kot znanosti ob koncu 19. stoletja so se metode proučevanja krasa razvile od klasifi kacije do sistemskega pristopa, ki omogoča napovedovanje v x, y, z in t. Zbiranju informacij, ki naj bi dale odgovor na vprašanje »kaj je to«, so sledila vprašanja »zakaj in kako« ter »kaj če«. Sprememba vprašanj je zahtevala zbiranje novih informacij, ki so spremenile način znanstvenega dojemanja krasa. Celotno vrednotenje razvoja v krasoslovnih študijah zahteva evolucijski pristop. Za sledenje sprememb v dojemanju krasa glede na razvoj uporabljane metodologije lahko defi niramo štiri glavne stopnje s prehodnimi mejami. Po razpravi o zgodovini krasoslovnih študij v Turčiji se avtor sprašuje o vzrokih, zaradi katerih napredek ni bil vzporeden splošnemu razvoju krasoslovnih študij v svetu. Ob upoštevanju dejstva, da je sprememba v dojemanju povzročila premike v pomenu pojmov in izrazov o krasu, predlaga defi nicijo izrazov ne le glede na obliko, temveč na osnovi procesov nastajanja in funkcije.Since its establishment as a science in the end of 19th century, methods applied in the study of karst evolved from classification to a system approach providing prediction in x,v,z and t. Information collected to answer the question “what is it” followed by the questions “why and how” and “what if”. The change in questions required collection of new information which in turn changed perception of karst by related scientists. An overall evaluation of the progress in karst studies postulates an evolutionary character. Four major stages can be defi ned with transitional limits to track the change in perception of karst in accordance with the progress in the applied methodology. After discussing the history of karst studies in Turkey, the author questions the reason why the track did not progress parallel to the general evolution of karst studies in the world. Considering the fact that change in perception has caused shifts in meaning of the concepts and terms of karst, it is proposed to define terms not only on the basis of form but the processes of formation and function

    The author analyzes the Federal State Standard on Higher Professional Education of the third generation and Federal State Standard on Higher Education area of training “Jurisprudence”in search of means of shaping this competence. The author also formulates defi nition and diff erentiates of the concepts “professional competence”and “professionally applied competence”. These normative documents identifi ed requirements for the formation of professional communicative competence. As a result, the analysis identifi ed the proportion of communicative competences of the whole volume of all formed competencies. Matrix, passport and program competencies, basic educational programs and programs of educational disciplines of the Perm institute of the Federal Service for the Execution of Sanctions of Russia are analyzedconcerning formation of professional communicative competence of graduates. The author suggests forming professional communicative competence, not only within the discipline “Russian language and Standard of Speech”, but also to include the communicative blocks of profi le orientation in the cycles of General and professional disciplines, and program practices in the framework of implementation of the basic educational program. This is due to the fact that in the training plan there are not linguistic disciplines (except “Russian language and Standard of Speech”) aimed at building these competencies.</jats:p

    Inclusive community landscapes in rural midwestern cities: a design proposal for Emporia, Kansas

BeamishThe landscape has the opportunity to commemorate new, dynamic cultural identities which are developing in rural cities throughout the Midwest. These communities are experiencing historic demographic changes as a result of two major phenomena: the in-migration of foreign born peoples and the out-migration of younger generations. Immigrants are settling in rural cities because of the relatively low cost of living, available skilled and unskilled labor jobs, and developing immigrant networks. Foreign traditions and cultural ideals have introduced a new dimension to the historically homogeneous communities found in the Midwest. The age demographic is also changing as young adults move away from their rural hometowns seeking employment and education opportunities available in larger, metropolitan areas. This project will propose a research and design process for defining a design concept for Inclusive Community Landscapes in Midwestern rural cities with diverse population demographics. Inclusive Community Landscapes are purposefully programmed public spaces that celebrate the positive effects of immigration and an aging population: they are defined by the people of the rural city. The goals of these landscapes are to educate visitors about the history of the town, honor the diverse cultures that have been, are, and will be part of the town, and promote communication amongst residents. The project concludes with a design of an Inclusive Community Landscape in downtown Emporia, Kansas, a reflection on the applied research and design processes, and a revised process based on lessons learned during the project

    The aim of the article is to study “As dark as very dark”, a short, less known text by Cuban author Ena Lucía Portela (1972). After commenting on its place in the context of the volume edited by Iván de la Nuez: Cuba y el día después: doce ensayistas nacidos con la revolución imaginan el futuro (2002), we argue that the question concerning Cuba’s future serves as a pretext for Portela to try to defi ne her place as a Cuban writer and as intellectual. She distances from the literary currents that determined the Cuban literary fi eld, and destabilizes her own position. The protagonist’s characterization as a nowhere girl, the intertextuality and the emphasis on scepticism illustrate her elusive position that doesn’t fi t in any categoryNos proponemos estudiar “Tan oscuro como muy oscuro”, un texto breve, menos conocido, de la escritora cubana Ena Lucía Portela (1972).     Tyt. z nagłówka.Bibliogr. s. 199-[201].Na początku 2010 roku redaktor kulturalny norweskiego dziennika „Aftenposten” nazwał norweską telewizję NRK „najlepszym nadawcą publicznym na świecie” oraz „największą i najważniejszą instytucją kulturalną Norwegii”. Artykuł jest próbą zweryfikowania tego stwierdzenia poprzez określenie miejsca programów kulturalnych w ramówce NRK w roku 2009. Autorka analizuje, w jaki sposób misja kulturalna została opisana w obowiązujących dokumentach prawnych dotyczących misji norweskich mediów publicznych. Następnie w artykule podjęto próbę określenia, jak NRK definiuje programy kulturalne i jak je klasyfikuje. W drugiej części artykułu przeanalizowano program telewizyjny dwóch kanałów NRK1 i NRK2 z roku 2009, a bardziej szczegółowo z trzech wybranych tygodni tego roku pod kątem realizowania misji dotyczącej kultury.At the beginning of 2010 the culture editor of the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten called the Norwegian television NRK “the best public service broadcaster in the world” and „the biggest and most important Norwegian cultural institution”. The article is an attempt to verify this statement through identifying the place of cultural programmes in NRK schedule in 2009. The author analyses how the cultural mission is described in current legal documents concerning Norwegian public service media mission. Furthermore the article is an attempt to identify how NRK defi nes cultural programmes and how it classifi es them.
