Makna dan Simbolisme dalam Upacara Adat Kematian Saur Matua: Kajian Semiotika Sosial

    No full text
&nbsp

A transitory regime : water supply in Conakry, Guinea

    No full text
Both consumers and the government benefited from reform of the water system in Conakry, Guinea, whose deterioration since independence had become critical by the mid-1980s. Less than 40 percent of Conakry's population had access to piped water - low even by regional standards - and service was intermittent, at best, for the few who had connections. The public agency in charge of the sector was inefficient, overstaffed, and virtually insolvent. In several ways, the reform introduced to the sector in 1989 under a World Bank-led project was remarkable. It showed that even in a weak institutional environment, where contracts are hard to enforce and political interference is common, private sector participation can improve sector performance. The authors discuss the mechanismsthat made progress possible and identify factors that inhibit the positive effects of reform. Water has become very expensive, the number of connections has increased very slowly, and conflicts have developed between SEEG (the private operator) and SONEG (the state agency). Among the underlying problems: a) The lack of strong, stable institutions. b) The lack of an independent agency capable of restraining arbitrary government action, regulating the private operator, and enforcing contractual arrangements. c) The lack of adequate conflict resolution mechanisms for contract disputes. d) Weak administrative capacity.Environmental Economics&Policies,Water and Industry,Water Conservation,Decentralization,Water Supply and Systems,Town Water Supply and Sanitation,Water and Industry,Water Supply and Sanitation Governance and Institutions,Environmental Economics&Policies,Water Conservation

    No full text
This research was conducted to examine the effect of Net Performing Loan (NPL) and Operational Costs on Operating Income (BOPO) on Return On Equity (ROE) in PT. Rakyat Indonesia Bank, for theperiod 2011-2018 period. The sampling technique in this study is 32 quarterly data obtained from the bank’spublished financial statements for the period 2011-2018. The analysis technique used is multiple regression analysis. Because the data used are secondary data, then to determine the accuracy of the model it is necessary to test some basic assumptions, linearregression analysis, hypothesis testing and coefficient of determination. Testing the basic assumptions usedin this study include the normality test, linearity test and homogeneity test. While the linear regressionanalysis includes multiple linear regression and classical assumption tests (multicollinearity, autocorrelationand heterokedastisitas) and hypothesis testing which includes t test and f test. The dependent variable in this study is ROE while the independent variables are NPL and BOPO. The results of tis study, among others, indicate that the R square is 0,519 or 51,9 %, the NPL and BOPOvariables have a partial effect on ROE as well as the NPL and BOPO variables also have a simultaneouseffect against ROE. Based on the results of the above research, it is suggested to be able to add knowledgeabout NPL and BOPO to the level of ROE so that it can be input into research that is in line with this. Keywords: NPL, BOPO dan RO

Card-image public access catalogues (CIPACs) : Issues concerned with their planning and implementation

    No full text
This article identifies and discusses the issues and problems that need to be considered in the process of planning and implementing card-image public access catalogues (CIPACs). CIPACs are online library catalogues based on databases of digitised catalogue cards with more or less sophisticated mechanisms for browsing or searching. Solutions of this kind have been implemented by a number of libraries in various countries since the mid-1990s, mainly as inexpensive alternatives to full retrospective conversion of their old catalogues. Based upon a questionnaire and relevant literature, the article looks at the following aspects: cost, conversion speed, universal access, saving of space, preservational aspects, software selection, preparing the card catalogue for conversion, scanning and quality control, image standards, optical character recognition, manual and intellectual input, technological aspects, administrative tools, organisational aspects, peculiarities of old catalogues, presentation of CIPACs to the users, and life expectancy of card-image catalogues

Locating 386 paging structures in memory images

Paging Virtualization a b s t r a c t Digital memory forensics consists of analyzing various components of a memory image from a compromised host. A memory image consists of data and processes that were running on the system at the time the image was created. Previously running processes are one of the key items in memory images to identify, including potentially hidden processes. Each process has its own paging structures that define its address space, so locating the paging structures can potentially lead to finding all of the processes that were running. In this paper, we describe an algorithm to locate paging structures in a memory image of an Â86 platform running either Linux or Windows XP. The algorithm can be used to find paging structures for potential processes that were hidden by rootkits or other malware. Furthermore, if the system was running an Â86 virtual machine, the algorithm can locate paging structures associated with both the host kernel and the guest kernel processes. Our algorithm relies more on the constructs of the Â86 hardware and less on the operating system running on top of the hardware. This means that the algorithm works for many different operating systems with only minor tweaking. ª 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. Introduction Volatile memory in a compromised system may contain critical evidence relevant to an attack that will be lost if the machine is powered off. To prevent this loss, an analyst can take a snapshot of the memory before shutting the system down. This snapshot will likely include both benign user data as well as malicious attacker data. For example, the attacker may have left a process running that contains details of how the attacker broke in and what he or she did after obtaining access. One important problem to solve in digital memory forensics is how to locate all of the processes that were running at the time the snapshot was taken, including malicious processes. With paging enabled, each of these processes must run in an address space described by a set of paging structures. Therefore, as a method to help locate all of the processes in a memory image, this paper focuses on finding paging structures that can lead to identifying processes. To locate paging structures in a memory image, the analyst must understand how to interpret the raw bytes in the image. The semantics of a compromised memory image depends on the layers in the previously running system (hardware, operating system, and applications) and the malicious code injected into the system. One approach to locate paging structures is to use the details of the operating system kernel implementation. For example, because the kernel maintains all of the paging structures, a program could inspect the kernel data structures to locate all of the paging structures. This could also be used to enumerate the processes, which is what we are eventually interested in discovering. However, since the memory image is from a compromised host, there is a risk that even the kernel and its data structures have been compromised. Therefore, a more robust approach for locating * Corresponding author. E-mail addresses: [email protected] (K. Saur), [email protected] (J.B. Teaching Smart: Developing Reusable Instructional Modules on the Web

    No full text
This paper discusses a web based library instructional module that was specifically configured to be reused for multiple sections of the same course. The module was designed to be embedded seamlessly and explicitly into the course work of a lower level undergraduate communication studies course at a large public research university in the United States. Textual analyses of students’ responses to an online questionnaire that was embedded as part of the tutorial contain some surprising revelations regarding what students most value in information literacy instruction and what they consider to be least useful. This paper was presented at E-learning for Marketing and Management in Libraries, an IFLA Satellite Meeting, University of Geneva, Switzerland, July 28 – 30, 2003, and subsequently published in a volume of the same title (De Gruyter, 2006).The final publication is available at www.degruyter.com. http://www.degruyter.com/view/books/9783598440151/9783598440151.115/9783598440151.115.xmlPeer reviewe
