Siddharth Dube: An Indefinite Sentence
An Indefinite Sentence/No One Else: A Personal History of Outlawed Love and SexA revelatory memoir about sex, oppression, and the universal struggle for justice. From his time as a child in 1960s India, Siddharth Dube knew that he was different. Reckoning with his femininity and sexuality—and his intellect—would send him on a lifelong journey of discovery: from Harvard classrooms to unsafe cruising sites; from ivory-tower think-tanks to shantytowns; from halls of power at the UN and World Bank to jail cells where sexual outcasts are brutalized.Coming of age in the earliest days of AIDS, Dube was at the frontlines when that disease made rights for gay men and for sex workers a matter of basic survival, pushing to decriminalize same-sex relations and sex work in India, both similarly outlawed under laws dating back to British colonial rule. He became a trenchant critic of the United States’ imposition of its cruel anti-prostitution policies on developing countries—an effort legitimized by leading American feminists and would-be do-gooders—warning that this was a 21st century replay of the moralistic Victorian-era campaigns that had spawned endless persecution of countless women, men, and trans individuals the world over.Profound, ferocious, and luminously written, An Indefinite Sentence is both a personal and political journey, weaving Dube’s own quest for love and self-respect with unforgettable portrayals of the struggles of some of the world’s most oppressed people, those reviled and cast out for their sexuality. Informed by a lifetime of scholarship and introspection, it is essential reading on the global debates over sexuality, gender expression, and of securing human rights and social justice in a world distorted by inequality and right-wing ascendancy

“The corporatisation of the Indian media has had a negative impact on the quality of journalism over the last two decades” – Siddharth Varadarajan
Siddharth Varadarajan recently appeared on the West Asia panel at the first LSE India Summit. During the conference he spoke to Mukti Jain Campion about his career as a journalist, the problem of corporate and government pressure on the media in India, and how his new platform The Wire is trying to re-imagine media ownership
Towards autonomic virtual machine management
Virtual machine technologies are gaining wide acceptance in today’s era due to invaluable services in system management, server consolidation, and secure resource containment along with providing requisite application execution environment. Every virtual machine platform reduces dependence on hardware by fully or partially abstracting operating systems enabling flexible control of manipulation or migration of guest machines by manual system administration or reactive/proactive approaches to management. This dissertation focuses on resolving the resource reservation problem to help define a mathematical model and study interference within multiple virtual machines while trying to achieve load balancing and improve performance efficiency. Our goal is three-pronged. Firstly, we aim to understand the underlying support available for virtual machine migration and pursue new technologies or abstractions to improve efficiency and speed of the data transfer. Secondly, we carefully evaluate all the resources used by VMs for proper functioning and study the synchronization and multiplexing processes underneath which delineate when and where to migrate a virtual machine. Finally, we attempt to deduce the action to perform on running VMs (manipulation or resource configuration) so as to resolve the issue at hand. To achieve these goals, we follow a step-by-step procedure limiting the number of variable parameters and analyze the outcome of focal experiments. The results show that, using RDMA (Remote Direct Memory Access) to perform virtual machine migration can be used only in scenarios where the underlying hardware offers support for such transactions (eg. InfiniBand architecture) and such an abstraction over TCP/IP does not ameliorate efficiency of VM transfers. Further, a utility based function designed to analyze environment and application metrics and project an area of good/bad states on a map would require a plethora of parameters increasing its complexity. Considering VM re-distribution, one can predict the ideal number and time of migration of guest virtual machines on any configuration by gathering statistics from parallel migration for graphical analysis. Parallel VM migration gives us shorter average transfer time and higher latencies per VM. Pinning of virtual CPUs to VMs improves the performance efficiency of applications compared to sharing of CPUs.M.S.Includes bibliographical referencesby Siddharth Wag
Special Session: STT-MRAMs: Technology, Design and Test
STT-MRAM has long been a promising non-volatile memory solution for the embedded application space owing to its attractive characteristics such as non-volatility, low leakage, high endurance, and scalability. However, the operating requirements for high-performance computing (HPC) and low power (LP) applications involve different challenges. This paper addresses different aspects of STT-MRAM; it will cover state-of-the-art, some new results and future challenges related to technology, design and test. While STT-MRAM devices have shown encouraging performance metrics at device-level, a key challenge has been achieving backend-of-line (BEOL) CMOS compatibility, while retaining the benefits of low power operation. Scaling demands to improve data densities have placed additional challenges in terms of addressing the impact of process-induced damage on device performance at CD < 100 nm. In addition, the paper discusses the design of reliable read mechanism considering the variability effects. Moreover, the failure of traditional fault modeling and test approaches in model STT-MRAM unique defects for appropriate test solutions is demonstrated in this paper based on silicon data. Morphotaxonomy of fresh water Chlorophycean algae (Desmids) from Siddharth Nagar, U.P., India
The taxonomic study of green algae (Desmids) of district Siddharth Nagar, Uttar Pradesh India reveals the presence of ten taxa belonging to family Desmidiaceae the Class Chlorophyceae. The Tal Kunda pond of Siddharth Nagar district showing rich algal diversity. The present paper deals only desmidiacean taxa. These desmids taxa (Euastrum ceylanicum E. spinulosum, Cosmarium quadrum, C. awadhense, Staurastrum gracile, S. sexangulare, Micrasterias zeylanica, M. foliacea, Pleurotaenium ehrenbergii and Desmidium swartzii) though known from other localities of lndia are recorded from district Siddharth Nagar Eastern Uttar Pradesh for the first time. Jesu li složeni subjekti mogući? Pojašnjenje problema kombinacije subjekata u panpsihizmu
Panpsychism, the view that phenomenal consciousness is present at the fundamental physical level, faces the subject combination problem––the question of whether (and how) subjects of experience can combine. While various solutions to the problem have been proposed, these often seem to be based on a misunderstanding of the threat posed by the subject combination problem. An example is the exchange in this journal between Siddharth (2021) and Miller (2022). Siddharth argued that the phenomenal bonding solution failed to address the subject combination problem, while Miller responded that Siddharth had (among other things) misunderstood the problem that the phenomenal bonding solution was trying to solve. In this paper, I seek to clarify the real subject combination problem facing panpsychism, and on this basis, evaluate the various attempts at defending the possibility of subject composition.
