The question of how Ye. A. Boratynsky interpreted the categories of being and non-being in a book of poems “The Twilight” (1842) is covered. It is noted that “The Twilight” became the final book of the poet, it reflected his philosophical quest in the 30-ies of the 19th century. On the other hand, that is stressed by the author of this article, the publication of “The Twilight” marked the end of the whole era - the romantic era with its art and philosophy. It is alleged that Ye. A. Boratynsky reflects on the being as the existence of a subject, on the being as “vale of tears,” and also the super-being. Through the analysis of the motives of emergence, creation and disappearance that can be traced in the works by Ye. A. Boratynsky, the poet’s views on the non-being and “the otherness being” are revealed. It is argued that ontological problems in “The Twilight” are closely related to epistemological issues. It is shown that, according to the creative conception of Ye. A. Boratynsky, not sensual or rational way of knowing leads to the true knowledge, but “meta-logic” one, that is, the mysteries of super-being open through the “meta-logic.” The author concludes that individual strivings of the poet respond to common trends in the development of the history of Russian thought

Regularities connecting parameters of Raman bands with structural peculiarities of MBBA in different phases obtained at various rates of preliminary cooling of sample have been found [1,2]. Using these connections the conformational angles, energetic barriers between different conformers, order of nonarrangement of various phases, quantitative phase composition have been calculated. It has been made the analysis of forming mechanisms of Raman bands contours with using of theory of Raman effect in condensed phase. In spite of the difference of heterogeneous broadening nature for nematics and amorphous phases the proximity of Raman bands widths for these phases is stipulated one of parameters of corresponding averaging statistic distributions. The method of identification and prognostic of structural evolution of phase states for wide class of LC have been proposed

    Naturalism and Abstract Entities

I argue that the most popular versions of naturalism imply nominalism in philosophy of mathematics. In particular, there is a conflict in Quine's philosophy between naturalism and realism in mathematics. The argument starts from a consequence of naturalism on the nature of human cognitive subjects, physicalism about cognitive subjects, and concludes that this implies a version of nominalism, which I will carefully characterize. The indispensability of classical mathematics for the sciences and semantic/confirmation holism does not affect the argument. The disquotational theory of reference and truth is discussed but rejected. This argument differs from the Benacerrafian arguments against realism, because it does not rely on any specific assumption about the nature of knowledge or reference. It differs from the popular objections to the indispensability argument for realism as well, because it can admit both indispensability and holism. This argument motivates a new, radically naturalistic and nominalistic approach to philosophy of mathematics.History & Philosophy Of ScienceA&HCI1ARTICLE2129-1462

Naturalized truth and Plantinga's evolutionary argument against naturalism

    No full text
There are three major theses in Plantinga's latest version of his evolutionary argument against naturalism. (1) Given materialism, the conditional probability of the reliability of human cognitive mechanisms produced by evolution is low; (2) the same conditional probability given reductive or non-reductive materialism is still low; (3) the most popular naturalistic theories of content and truth are not admissible for naturalism. I argue that Plantinga's argument for (1) presupposes an anti-materialistic conception of content, and it therefore begs the question against materialism. To argue for (2), Plantinga claims that the adaptiveness of a belief is indifferent to its truth. I argue that this claim is unsupported unless it again assumes an anti-materialistic conception of content and truth. I further argue that Plantinga's argument for (3) is not successful either, because an improved version of teleosemantics can meet his criticisms. Moreover, this version of teleosemantics implies that the truth of a belief is (probabilistically) positively related to its adaptiveness, at least for simple beliefs about physical objects in human environments. This directly challenges Plantinga's claim that adaptiveness is indifferent to truth.PhilosophyReligionA&HCI0ARTICLE127-467

Ye Xian and her sisters. The role of a Tang story in the Cinderella cycle

Ye Xian is the protagonist of a story written in the Tang period which has been defined as “the Chinese Cinderella” and “the first written Cinderella”. I have carried out an analysis of the tale to demonstrate that most motifs, which have been ascribed to Tang culture, are in fact hardly compatible with it. Moreover, the story presents a broken narrative structure and unclear elements which disclose the difficulties of adaptation of foreign motifs. In order to complete this analysis I have utilised three methodological perspectives, Classicists’, Sinologists’ and Folklorists’ approaches, according to the three different types of narratives investigated, to study this story and its role in the Cinderella cycle. The Classicist point of view investigates the work of writers who have researched fairy tales and motifs found in classical literature, without a genre-oriented framework. The Sinologist point of view, however, tackles this specific story taking into account the specific circumstances of the production of this text and its context, especially Chinese literary history, language and genre, intended not only as the literary frame the author followed, but also as the horizon of expectation of his audience. Lastly, the Folklorist approach enables us to compare this tale with other Cinderella stories, although its traditional method, considering all narratives as folk tales is challenged in that its perspectives is Eurocentric and too often oversimplifying. The elements I haves chosen to analyse are the main components of Cinderella stories, and at the same time they represent the most important dramatis personae in the development of a narrative. The first analysed element is the protagonists of the Chinese tale, Ye Xian, the fact that she is a woman, and that the figure of her stepsister is not described as wicked as in later Chinese Cinderella stories. The second is the antagonist, the stepmother: while stepmothers are common in Chinese literature, they usually appear in stories with different characteristics, usually presenting a male protagonist. The third important element is the helpers. Ye Xian presents one main helper and other two briefly mentioned; while the first can be considered the addition of a particular cultural system, the other two are relics of previous stories. The fourth is the magic object, which has an extremely important role in the stories; this specific magic object, a shoes, has profound cultural connotations and has been interpreted as the undeniable mark of the presence of Chinese culture, related to foot-binding, but this research disprove these conceptions. The fifth is the social gathering along with the figure of the king; the future husband of the protagonist is not described in detail, while the importance of the social gathering as the addition of this precise story to the Cinderella cycle is carefully examined. All the conclusions indicate that this text is a combination of previous narratives containing Cinderella motifs, thus making Ye Xian the first version containing all the elements present in the modern Cinderella. This tripartite methodology is therefore tailored to this case, while it also combines the epistemological approaches to create a paradigm functional for future research where tales are hardly connectible to a precise literary system and whose genre represents a crucial key to interpretation
