The management of grey squirrels populations in Europe: evolving best practices.
Love them or hate them, grey squirrels in Britain and Ireland evoke a wide range of reactions and emotions in people. Some consider these 'alien' invaders the usurper of our native red squirrel, a forest pest or a nuisance to gardeners but others love them and watch and feed them in woodlands, parks and gardens. To many people, grey squirrels are one of the few endearing wildlife encounters they may have. This volume presents a comprehensive and unique collection of peer-reviewed papers by scientists, experts and managers on critical aspects of grey squirrel biology, their parasites and diseases and management

Myosotis congesta Shuttleworth ex Albert & Reynier 1892

Myosotis congesta Shuttleworth ex Albert & Reynier (1892: 202)

≡ Myosotis stricta Link (1819: 104) var. congesta Rouy (1908: 302) = Myosotis tubuliflora Murbeck (1901: 400) = Myosotis senneniana Maire (1933: 222).

Type (lectotype, here designated):— France: Champs négligés mais humides entre Bormes et St. Claire (Var), 27 March 1863, Shuttleworth s.n. (LY0002896!, image available at https://explore.recolnat.org/search/botanique/simplequery=LY0002896) (Fig.1)

Iconographies available from literature:— Blaise (1970, p. 503); Valdeìs (2012, Lam. 121), Azzaro et al. (2021; Fig. 1).

Notes:—We traced two herbarium sheets (LY0732429 and LY0002896) in Rouy herbarium at LY that can be considered as original material. The labels bring the diagnosis that is completely in accordance with the protologue: “ Myosotis congesta Shuttl., Imprimis pro M. stricta Link lecta, a qua differ floribus minoribus (pedicellis gracilioribus) in apicem caulis congestis, spicatis et patentibus. A M. versicolori differ characteribus ablatis et corollis caeruleis”. However, only one specimen (LY0002896, see Fig. 1) brings two autograph labels handwritten by Shuttleworth, while the other one (LY0732429) brings a label with a different handwriting and probably is a duplicate. In addition, the specimen chosen as lectotype is in conformity with the current application of the name (Valdeìs 2012, Selvi 2018). Previously, an attempt to designate the type was already done by Blaise (1970), who reported only “Types: îles d’Hyères, Herb. Rouy”. According to Art. 7.11 of the ICN, this typification is invalid, since the designation of a type must be clearly indicated by a direct citation of the specimen.
Published as part of Tavilla, Gianmarco, Cambria, Salvatore, Brullo, Salvatore, Azzaro, Dario & Galdo, Gianpietro Giusso Del, 2022, Typification of the name Myosotis congesta (Boraginaceae), pp. 172-174 in Phytotaxa 538 (2) on page 172, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.538.2.10, http://zenodo.org/record/6333640
