    Role of thermal stresses on pulsed laser irradiation of thin films under conditions of microbump formation and nonvaporization forward transfer

    This paper presents a theoretical analysis of the processes in thin solid films irradiated by short and ultrashort laser pulses in the regimes of film structuring and laser-induced forward transfer. The regimes are considered at which vaporization of the film materials is insignificant and film dynamics is governed mainly by mechanical processes. Thermoelastoplastic modeling has been performed for a model film in one- and two-dimensional geometries. A method has been proposed to estimate the height of microbumps produced by nanosecond laser irradiation of solid films. Contrary to femtosecond laser pulses, in nanosecond pulse regimes, stress waves across the film are weak and cannot induce film damage. The main role in laser-induced dynamics of irradiated films is played by radial thermal stresses which lead to the formation of a bending wave propagating along the film and drawing the film matter to the center of the irradiation spot. The bending wave dynamics depends on the hardness of the substrate underlying the film. The causes of the receiver substrate damage sometimes observed upon laser-induced forward transfer in the scheme of the direct contact between the film and the receiver are discussed

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Nonlinear analysis of carrying capacity of reinforced concrete smooth and ribbed shells under action of concentrated load

    p. 1700-1712Reinforced concrete shells for industrial and civil buildings roofings should carry considerable value of concentrated loads of suspended transport, technological equipment, suspended ceiling and so on. In this paper engineering methods to solve the problems of analysis of bearing capacity dealing with deformed state of reinforced concrete smooth and ribbed shallow shells of positive Gaussian curvature under action of concentrated load are considered. The solution of problems is executed on the basis of a kinematic method of limit equilibrium [1] in nonlinear statement with some possible schemes of failure found experimentally [2]. Round in the plan reinforced concrete shallow shells of positive curvature under the action of the concentrated load applied in the top, fail with formation of complete radial or local failure schemes. In the complete scheme of destruction radial cracks locate at full height of the shell, including a basic ring in which the reinforcement amounts to ultimate tensile strength. Experimental investigation carried out on models and full scale structures have shown that the local failure schemes peculiar to more thin and shallow shells. For this shells the outline in the plan was of no importance if the zone of failure not border upon the contour. The zone of failure is surrounded with the ring crack formed in result of eccentric compression of sections, perpendicular to radial ones. In ring direction near to edge of a failure zone in ultimate state the reinforcement of the shell amounts to ultimate tensile strength. Bearing capacity of ribbed shells considerably grows in comparison with smooth shells. The concentrated load, as a rule, is applied in the places of crossing of longitudinal and transversal ribs of a shell (Fig. 1).Shugaev, VV. (2009).     Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    Mapping the Discipline of the Olympic Games An Author-Cocitation Analysis

    The authors conducted an author cocitation analysis on prominent authors writing about the Olympics during the 1990s. Author cocitation is an established bibliometric technique that can be used to measure the relative similarities of topics written about by the cited authors. This enables a visual representation of the “intellectual space” of the discipline, in this case the Olympics, to be created for the period under review. So core and peripheral research areas are identified, along with their major contributors. The representation appears as a two-dimensional cluster-enhanced map. Subject expertise was then applied to the results to place labels on the generated clusters of authors and their topics
