Construction and analysis of Es2 efficient supersaturated designs
In this paper, we construct supersaturated designs for large numbers of two-level factors and 10?n?22 runs by augmenting k-circulant designs [Liu, Y., Dean, A.M., 2004. k-circulant supersaturated designs. Technometrics 46, 32–43] with interaction columns or by deleting columns from k-circulant designs. Most of the designs presented have Es2 efficiencies above 0.90 and they extend the range of efficient supersaturated designs available in the literature.Difficulties encountered in the use of supersaturated designs in detecting active factors are addressed. We show that, when only one factor is active, the regression technique of forward selection is guaranteed to select the correct factor as active under the idealized conditions that non-active factors have negligible effects and the errors are small. Under similar conditions, we derive bounds on the maximum allowable correlation between the columns of the model matrix that guarantee the correct selection of the “most active” factor when two or more factors are non-negligible. Further, we obtain conditions for the correct selection of the two most active factors using subset selection in regression. A number of designs that satisfy these conditions are identified

Witten's D4 Integrable Hierarchies Conjecture
The authors prove that the total descendant potential functions of the theory of Fan-Jarvis-Ruan-Witten for D-4 with symmetry group < J > and for D-4(T) with symmetry group G(max), respectively, are both tau-functions of the D-4 Kac-Wakimoto/Drinfeld-Sokolov hierarchy. This completes the proof, begun in the article by Fan-Jarvis-Ruan (2013), of the Witten Integrable Hierarchies Conjecture for all simple (ADE) singularities.the National Natural Science Foundation of China; the National Security Agency of USA; the Doctoral Fund of the Ministry of Education of ChinaSCI(E)中国科技核心期刊(ISTIC)中国科学引文数据库(CSCD)[email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]

Between Images and Words : Ruan Guang-min's Railway Sonata and its Journey from Chinese to Italian
Although overshadowed by the popularity of Japanese manga, Taiwanese comics (or manhua, as they are known in Chinese) are experiencing a true golden age both domestically and abroad, as proven by the numerous international awards received by local artists, as well as the translations of their works into several languages. Ruan Guang-min (1971-) represents a paradigmatic example of how an author whose comics are culture-specific has managed to transcend both geographical (Taiwan) and linguistic (Sinophone) boundaries. After briefly contextualizing the current situation of Taiwanese comics and presenting Ruan and his oeuvre, the contribution analyzes the Italian translation of Railway Sonata, primarily drawing on Klaus Kaindl's studies on comics translation and Lucía Molina and Amparo Hurtado Albir's research on the translation of culturemes, or culture-specific elements. More specifically, the article focuses on the rendition of linguistic messages integrated into the images, of elements with strong sociocultural connotations, and of orality. This study reveals that techniques such as repetitio + adiectio were employed for text embedded in images, where the original language and script are preserved in the translation, accompanied by the translator's notes. Additionally, different strategies were used for culture-specific items. Given the absence of research on Taiwanese manhua and on comics translation from Chinese into Italian, this exploratory study aims at providing a steppingstone for future research in said fields
Of Grocery Stores and Barbershops: Slices of Taiwan in Ruan Guang-min's Manhua
Although not as popular as Japanese manga, Taiwanese comics, known as manhua, are an important cultural product, which is being promoted both locally and internationally through several governmental initiatives. Ruan Guang-min is among the most wellknown contemporary manhua artists, the author of many graphic narratives that circulate domestically and, through translation, abroad too. The main characteristic of his oeuvre is that it is often set in the rural milieu, and it nostalgically reflects on the simplicity of small-town life. In this paper, I will focus on two of his works, namely The Grocery Store and Dong Hua Chun Barbershop, paying special attention to some of their cultural-specific features. Through an analysis of the two manhua, my aim is to show that the Taiwanese elements in Ruan's graphic narratives can be perceived differently depending on the readers' background: for local readers they have a nostalgic and sentimental impact, while for foreign audiences they represent a window to Taiwanese society and culture
Sharing business information with employees
This article was written by Ruan van der Walt before he joined the University of PretoriaThe adoption of legislation such as the Labour Relations Act No 66 of 1995 and the Promotion of Access to Information Act No 2 of 2000 has brought about radical change in the process of disclosure of information in South African organisations. The article reviews developments in respect of information disclosure in South Africa and other countries and discusses the effects of the LRA in regard to disclosure of information to trade unions and workplace forums. It then describes a study conducted by the author and discusses the findings. It concludes with pointing out certain shortcomings in the disclosure process and urges managements and the trade unions to work together to improve this important tool for achieving success in organisations and enhancing industrial democracy
