    Introduction to missing education data and the SDG 4 data regime

    Global education goals and the data collection systems associated with them have a history of more than 30 years. Gaps in these data systems - for example, missing data - have also featured prominently throughout this history. While some gaps are due to logistical and technical limitations, other gaps are due to social and political (de-)prioritization, and many of the gaps have persisted throughout the history of global education goals. These data gaps risk amplifying existing marginalization. This chapter provides an overview of the global education data regime historically and the current Sustainable Development Goals, the importance of understanding and addressing missing data, and an overview of the books’ chapters that cover regional and thematic issues of missing education data

    Conclusions on missing education data and the SDG 4 data regime

    As we approach the end of the Sustainable Development Goals’ agenda deadline of 2030, the achievement of equitable education for all remains uncertain in part due to missing data within the global education data regime. This book has shown how data gaps affect contexts and groups that are least likely to realize the promises of SDG 4 to “ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. In this conclusion, we synthesize the gaps in terms of types of data, marginalized groups within the education data system, and uses of data. We link these shared themes to the conceptual framework presented in Chapter 2. Finally, we argue that the final years of the SDG 4 agenda should prioritize data that are useful for improving education outcomes and that this may result in prioritizing national education data systems over cross-country indicators

    The interview and observation data sets are merged and aggregated versions of the data including only those individuals who were present in all 3 waves of data collection. Because there was attrition in the student interview data, we've also added the full datasets for students at baseline, midline, and endline. When a student could not be identified they were replaced with a randomly selected student to keep the full sample so that the data at baseline, midline and endline all have 1750 observations but they are not all matched. The ID codes in mid and end match, the data in baseline were matched to the IDs at mid and end with the "b_NEW_ID" field

    The object of the report was to elucidate in detail the various features of the research program in meteorology being carried on at the Daniel Guggenheim Airship Institute in Akron, Ohio. Mr. L. J. Fangman, of the U.S. Weather Bureau, was collaborating with the author in carrying out work such as a study of autographic records of the various meteorological elements during frontal passages with a view to the possible prediction of the intensity of the accompanying disturbance as it may affect the operation of aircraft and a study of atmospheric gustiness with a view to finding the dependence between frequency end amplitude of velocity fluctuations and the vertical temperature and velocity gradients

    Audit and control of the use of the internet for learning and teaching: issues for stakeholders in higher education

    The Internet is becoming more widely used by academic institutions to support the learning and teaching activities of students and academic staff. Whilst this is a very efficient mechanism, it is, arguably, important that there are adequate controls in place to ensure that the information is not libellous, defamatory, inaccurate, illegal or inappropriate. The interactivity of the Internet, the immediacy of access to its contents and the public accessibility to much of its information, however, do provide a different operating environment and therefore different audit and control issues arise.This paper discusses the roles and concerns of a range of stakeholders and suggests that the control mechanisms might be failing, or might not be adequately policed in practice. A number of examples are provided where the manner in which controls are put in place do not operate effectively, or where there may be control loops that are open-ended. For each of the stakeholder groups that are identified, an account is given of the use to which the Internet is put and where regulation currently exists or may be desirable

    This report is on the investigations of frontal phenomena at the Daniel Guggenheim Airship Institute in Akron, Ohio from January 1, 1935 through August 1, 1936. The investigation was carried out with the cooperation of the U.S. Bureau of Aeronautics, the U.S. Weather Bureau, the California Institute of Technology, and the Guggenheim Airship Institute. Mr. R.C. Robinson of the Weather Bureau cooperated with the author in carrying out the investigation. The object of the investigation was to determine the intensity of the atmospheric disturbances (i.e. rapidity of wind shift and gustiness) accompanying the passage of cold fronts, along with a study of the characteristics of the air masses involved and other features which might affect the intensity of the disturbance. The report treated thirty cold fronts which passed the station during 1935 to 1936
