Sheema Kermani (1951-) is a performer and activist based in Karachi, Pakistan. Through her organisation, Tehrik-e-Niswan she has worked towards raising awareness of violence against women and women’s empowerment. Tehrik-e-Niswan is a cultural organisation invested in social justice through the arts. As a dancer and theatre actor, Sheema Kermani uses her training, choreography, and pedagogy to foreground the activist potential of performing arts. Scholarship on dance and political activism within the larger global context (for example in South Africa and New Zealand) have focussed on dance’s potential ‘to further social justice and compassionate communities’ (Shapiro, 2013: 15) and its power ‘to envision, move and create change.’ (Shapiro, 2016: 3) Within the contexts of the UK and USA, scholarship on dance and protest have encompassed historical enquiries (Mills, 2021), politics of representation, place, and identity (Prickett, 2013) and embodied choreographies of protest (Foster, 2003). In the South Asian context, dance as counter-hegemonic to communal politics have informed the works of artist-activist, Mallika Sarabhai in India (Grau, 2007). This interview with Sheema Kermani follows the existing strands of research on global dance and activism by focussing specifically on Pakistan. Sheema Kermani talks about her own dance pedagogy in dance and art history, her formative years in the UK and the influences of feminist and Marxist movements, and her continuing work for social justice in Pakistan in the wake of rising religious fundamentalism, gender atrocities, forced migrations and climate crisis

Assessment of Solid Waste Management Practices in Kabowohe Division, Sheema Muinicipal Council, Sheema District
Solid waste management is one of the major environmental problems facing municipalities today. Kabwohe Division, Sheema Municipality, like other urban centers in Uganda and in most other developing countries, this important service is based on the city's centralized collection, transportation, and disposal strategy. Currently, this approach has proven to be inefficient due to the heavy financial requirements involved.
Background: Kabwohe Division generates 20,580 metric tons of solid waste annually, of which only 17,215 metric tons (59.6%) are collected annually. This clarifies that 2.72 metric tons of solid waste are generated per clay, with only 48.47 metric tons collected or removed from landfills and other areas, with the composition of solid waste generated being (83.6%) organic or plant origin, (0.9%) waste paper, 1.2% waste plastics, 0.3% waste metals, 0.1% sasscullet materials, and (3.9%) other materials (District Environmental Health Annual Report, 2014).
Objective of the study: To examine solid waste management practices and the challenges faced in Solid waste management in Kabwohe division, Sheema Municipality
Methodology: The study was carried out in Kabwohe Division, Sheena Municipality, and Sheema District. It was a cross-sectional study with both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. Qualitative data collection tools like key informants and quantitative data collection tools like questionnaires and observation were employed. Simple random sampling was used to select respondents (SWHs) from the cells, and key informants were purposefully selected in relation to their knowledge on solid waste management in the division.Kabale Universit

A mathematical model for assessing KRAS mutation effect on monoclonal antibody treatment of colorectal cancer
The most challenging task in colorectal cancer research nowadays is to understand the development of acquired resistance to anti-EGFR drugs. The key reason for this problem is the KRAS mutations produced after the treatment with monoclonal antibodies (mAb). KRAS screening tests done before the start of the treatment are not very sensitive to identify minute quantity of the mutated cells, which can produce resistance to the therapy after the beginning of the treatment. Here we present a mathematical model for the analysis of KRAS mutations behavior in colorectal cancer with respect to mAb treatments. To evaluate the drug performance we have developed equations for two types of tumors cells, i.e. KRAS mutated and KRAS wildtype. Both tumor cell populations were treated with a combination of mAb and chemotherapy drugs. It was observed that even the minimal initial concentration of KRAS mutation before the treatment has the ability to make the tumor refractory to the treatment. Patient’s immune responses are specifically taken into considerations and it is found that, in case of KRAS mutations, the immune strength does not affect medication efficacy. Finally, Cetuximab (mAb) and Irinotecan (chemotherapy) drugs are analyzed as firstline treatment of colorectal cancer with few KRAS mutated cells. Results show that this combined treatment is only effective for patients with high immune strengths and it should not be recommended as first-line therapy for patients with moderate immune strengths or weak immune systems because of a potential risk of relapse, with KRAS mutant cells acquired resistance involved with them
